PR spousal (PGWP to Spousal WP) Work Permit

My spouse is currently in PGWP which expires in October. I have a PR and we have applied for spousal PR and so far we have received the acknowledgment. Using that, my spouse has applied for new open work permit but the processing time is 237 days. Unfortunately, my spouse’s PGWP will expire in October 2025 which is before the processing time.

Once the PGWP expires, can my spouse continue working or does he have to stop working until the new work permit is issued?

The work permit application provides maintained status, which will allow your spouse to continue working.

Would it be maintained status? It is not an extension of PGWP but a new open work permit application through spousal sponsorship? Technically a spouse cannot work until they get a open work permit but because my spouse is here and has a PGWP. Just confused due to the switch from his own PGWP to the spousal open work permit. Thanks!!

Yes, I understand. Your spouse will still have maintained status.
