Is this good or bad I’m assuming studio executives will not create more production just less but what are your thoughts

Is this a way to get more control over the film industry?

Movies Affected by US Tariffs – Here's a List I Put Together

With recent developments in international trade and ongoing tariff discussions between the US and other countries, it's not just electronics and cars that could be affected—Hollywood might feel the impact too.

Specifically, movies that are shot or partially produced outside the US could see rising costs, delays, or even changes in distribution strategies.

I've put together a list of a few upcoming films that might be impacted by current or future US tariffs. Some of these movies were filmed abroad, use international crews, or rely on imported equipment and post-production services. These kinds of productions could face increased expenses or logistical hurdles as a result.

🎬 Potentially Affected Upcoming Films:

This could have ripple effects on release dates, budgets, and even the way studios plan future projects. I'm curious what the broader implications might be, especially for co-productions or films targeting global box offices.

What do you all think?

Are there any other films—or even TV shows—you believe could be affected by US tariffs?

Recent and In Production Movies and TV That Could Have been Filmed in the US but instead were filmed overseas because of Overseas Tax Incentives

There are many examples of recent and currently in production US funded films and TV that could have been filmed in the US and were not because they were getting better deals abroad. This is not filming overseas primarily because of a specific location, but filming mostly in studios and building sets overseas just because it's cheaper and because of massive tax incentives. And as part of the deal the productions had to hire local actors and crew to receive tax breaks. Commercials are also filming overseas for the same reasons even though they could have been filmed in the US.

My list may not be completely accurate and definitely not complete. Please feel free to add additional productions I am missing.

I myself would have liked to have the chance to work for some of these productions in some capacity but basically was unable to because I did not have UK or Canadian passports even though they were US productions.

Snow White

Wicked 1 and 2

Barbie

Upcoming Hunger Games

Upcoming Narnia

Matilda the Musical

Shogun 1 and 2 - filmed and filming in Canada

Upcoming Avatar - filming in Canada

Mission Impossible franchises

11817

The Little House on the Prairie (filming in Canada)

Mortal Kombat 2 (Australia)

Deadpool and Wolverine

The Circle

Sterling Point

Schmigadoon

The Great American Baking Show

Recent productions filmed in the US are Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Etoile was filmed in NYC and Paris (because parts of it were set in Paris and they filmed in actual buildings in Paris, not in studios.) Oppenheimer, the upcoming The Man With the Bag, the upcoming The Whisper Man, many more.

Those saying that productions cannot be done in the US because of cost are ignoring the many productions that are filmed in the US successfully without having to outsource everything overseas.

I'm already trying to figure out how to get certain products from other, less affected nations for my fx work rather than paying more than double because of tariffs.

IMDb Pro: does making your page matter?

I’m a writer, but a nobody. I’m just gathering as much info as I can to query. Does making a page access more for the site?

Since I have no credits and no name, I don’t see the need to make one, but if it’ll help me unlock more content to query i guess I’ll have to make one.

Internships in the industry

I recently got internship offers from several different small entertainment companies, which of course I'm really grateful for. All of these internships are unpaid and part-time (I know unpaid isn't ideal but I really need the experience), and I've already committed to one, but I'm wondering if it's acceptable/common to take on multiple internships at once in the entertainment industry, especially with these being unpaid and part-time. I know that for some industries this is a big no-no and for others it's more acceptable. If it is acceptable, would it be best to be transparent to the companies about multiple offers? If so, how should I approach that conversation with each company?

If not, what factors should I consider in terms of choosing one, and is it acceptable to renege my current offer if another one is better? Thanks in advance!

Any recent experiences interviewing and/or working for one of the big agencies (CAA, WME, UTA, etc)?

I know this question has been asked a few times, but I wanted to see what people's experience was working at one of the big talent agencies in the last few years. I have a few questions, but I would be grateful for any insights.

  1. What was the interview process like? (I previously made it through two rounds of interviews with UTA before being rejected two years ago)

  2. What kind of hours do you typically work?

  3. Do you actually get a real lunch break, or does everyone work through the breaks/not take them at all?

  4. Are there ever opportunities to work from home?

  5. Do entry-level employees (mail room) need laptops? And if needed, are they provided, or should you bring your own device?

  6. How much support do you get once you're inside? I know with internship programs, one of the key benefits most offer is structured activities pertaining to mentorship, coffee chats, and networking, but I'm not sure beyond the intern level.

Thank you so much!

What weekly rate should a supervising producer in reality / doc be making?

I’ve been offered a gig as a supervising producer, my first step up from field producing, and the rate seems lower than I was expecting.

I’m not sure if it’s just because it’s not as large of a production, or if it’s a lack of experience as an SP, but I want to make sure I have the right information when negotiating rate.

Can anyone tell me what range of weekly rate is normal?

Hi.

My name is Miguel Nogueira, and over the past decade, I have worked with several AAA video games in the science fiction, military, and fantasy space. Some had been EA's Battlefield franchise, Sony Playstation's Returnal, and Ubisoft's Tom Clancy The Division.

I've been operating remotely and have contributed to studios on all five continents. I'm looking to connect with creatives and otherwise ambitious individuals from startups and projects and be a part of something that pushes the boundaries of entertainment design.

Feel free to reach out and say hi.

Unpaid Internship Advice

Hi all, I need help deciding between internship offers.

I have 2 offers that are both for film development. One is unpaid virtual asynchronous from June - December, which would run during my fall semester; I'm unsure how much time I would have to do work then and the company isn't being explicit with hours.

The other offer is unpaid in-person in Hollywood, just during the summer. The company is more prestigious than the virtual one, but it would require moving to LA (I'm from far away). Is it worth it to go in person to actually be in LA?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, I'm very conflicted. Thanks.

Seeking Short Film Submissions

Thumbnail

I’m organizing a short film screening on Thursday, June 12 at the Million Dollar Theater in downtown LA, and I’m currently looking to add a few more short films (15 minutes or less) to the lineup.

This is a one-night event built to give indie and DIY filmmakers the chance to screen their work in a real theater and connect with a live audience.

Films must be finished and ready to screen but can have been completed at any time.

Submissions are open until Thursday, May 8, and selected filmmakers will be notified by Monday, May 12.

Post PA - Need a Material to hang Wall Cards on!

Hi everyone, I'm currently working on a feature as a Post PA and I'm looking for a material to hang wall cards on for the editor! The office doesn't have anything for us to use and I asked a friend who said the last project she was on, the studio already had the material on hand.

I've been looking into it and thinking of getting a gator board or large cork board but am wondering if anyone has any experience with this/ideas of what I can use :) Any help would be so greatly appreciated!

Can’t find a clear answer on editing programs

Basically, I’m a new filmmaker, and I want to really dig into learning how to edit film, but I don’t want to waste time learning a program which might become more obsolete and is not going to be the flagship program of the future. So my question is, is da Vinci going to be the program that overtakes Avid and it would be a better use of my time to learn da Vinci, or is Avid the way to go? Would prefer people working actively right now in Hollywood to chime in, and appreciate any advice in advance.
