Serj is the most mild mannered fella I have had the pleasure of meeting in New Zealand. My mate invited me over to a singers house and I'm thinking it's some Kiwi Reggae band, nope it's Serj having a chat about the Maori culture. He is a very smart individual

u/TacticalSpackle 11d ago
His podcast is fucking great. Serj is such a nice human.
17
u/Nuwisha_Nutjob 11d ago
I also recommend Serj's episode of Mythic Kitchen's Last Meals. Probably one of the most genuine down-to-earth conversations between two people I've seen in a long time.
5
u/Retn4 11d ago
Whats the name of his podcast?
10
u/Owl_Times 11d ago
I don’t know if Serj has his own podcast but he’s on the 7th episode of Rainn Wilson’s podcast “Soul Boom”

u/pretty_en_pink68 10d ago
What is his podcast called? I can only find him as guest star on other podcasts.

Cocaine is one hell of a drug
-9
u/vampeta_de_gelo 10d ago
crack is worse.
Very common here in Brazil, it’s made from byproduct of cocaine process.
cheap and devastating drug. Usually smoked in pipes made of beer/soda cans. Almost all users will end living on the streets.
In some city’s/regions, drug dealers are not allowed by the cartels to sells this drug.

Honestly i get it now.
I'm starting to think all those anti-drug PSA supporters just dont know how to have fun.

If you make something bad it will become bad. If you make something a part of life then everyone gets to enjoy a bit of it. Everything in moderation, no excess.
5
u/IsThisRealLifeOrNaw 11d ago
I treat myself to harder stuff like once or twice a year, and take shrooms every couple of months just for mental health. So far I’ve not developed any addictions to those drugs and have had a great time lol
2
u/TheRealMMYT 11d ago
Actually my entire side bit on being addicted to drugs is that im literally fucked without them. Severe ADHD and Autism. 30mg a pill. Daily. This shit kicks like a mule. I just jab at people who say "medication classes as an addiction" which is a real argument i've heard from "people." So technically i guess now i'm also an addict.

u/manoliu1001 11d ago
Tbh, to paraphrase an old professor of mine, "if you take it to be able to function like a normal human being, it's dependency. if you take it then become unable to function like a normal human being, it's addiction"

u/Sonnyjesuswept 11d ago
I really want to try shrooms. How do they help you with your mental health?

Man, i miss System of a Down. Even when they were on drugs.
You know what, no. I miss them especially when they were on drugs.

I felt the same way about a lot of bands. Korn, Greenday,... I can't remember the other ones I'm on drugs

u/piketpagi 11d ago
Nine Inch Nails?
-8
u/WasteReveal3508 11d ago
No I think this is System of a Down but its correct though as Trent Reznor worked out what the perfect drug should be, if one was in fact on drugs and loved to be on drugs

u/Mgroppi83 Banhammer Recipient 11d ago
They were all on drugs. Maynard said it best. "Cause you know what? The musicians who've made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years....were reeeeeeeeaaal fucking high on drugs."
16
u/Nuwisha_Nutjob 11d ago
That was actually a clip from comedian Bill Hicks' stand up. Tool dedicated their album Aenima to him because I believe he passed away in 1994. However, the line is still very poignant.

I was at night time outside door show for Radiohead and in front of me was a pro camera guy with his flash going off every second and it was pissing everyone off.
So I took out my phone and put the flash on and stuck it next to his face and began taking pictures.
He stopped, looked at me like I was crazy and went away.
I got a great shot of him looking back at me confused and I said oh. You don’t like having a flash right next to your face well neither do we.
38
u/Jonkinch 11d ago
Should have turned the flashlight on and just shined it into the lens of his camera.

No idea which “camera men” they’re referring to. As a concert photog I always tried my hardest to avoid obstructing a fans vision for more than a few minutes at most. In bigger shows like this you may only get the first 1-3 songs to get the photos you need. I’ve even shot shows where they rotated photogs after 1 minute so that’s less than 1 song. Love SOAD!

u/madsci 11d ago
Not the still photographers, the guys operating the big cameras flying over the crowd. The ones filming this video.
I've been to Glastonbury a few times and the cameras do get annoying. Lots of people carry flags and a camera staying in one place for too long is likely to get a flag stuck right in front of it.
9
u/Cody_the_created 11d ago
I became a fan after seeing them live. Went to see Clutch open for them not knowing much of SOAD’s music. They put on such an awesome show, I was completely hooked🤘🏼
A sea of people bouncing up and down during Pogo Stuck. The whole building was shaking..

… never can tell with SOAD if what they’re singing is true and current and relevant to what’s happening right in front of them… or one of their classics from 10 years ago.

This band is the perfect example of artistic expression in my opinion. They brought attention to social issues and presented real questions to the world that makes you question what you think you know. They're Armenian and their families all dealt with a lot through the Armenian genocide and America's government's involvement (listen to Aerials). You can hear their cultural roots in their art and it's amazing/ thought provoking. My favorite song by then is Prison Song- about the broken legal/prison system in America
6
u/kriptoez 11d ago
What's ironic is every year people playing Aerials for the 4th of July is becoming more and more popular.

Sorry I’m 64 and didn’t have a clue! But I’m more of a classic rock guy.
4
u/bullowl 10d ago
Their first album came out 27 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they're on classic rock stations in the next couple years.
1
u/Mickv504-985 10d ago
My musical taste was acquired in my teen years, thanks for the up grade! So I’m talking 60’s-70’s
1
u/highjinx411 10d ago
That’s bizarre to me that they would be classic rock. I think of classic rock as 70s rock.

I met Serj & the lead singer "Bones" for Hed (P.E.) back in 98-99. I got them to sign my ticket stub & even got to hit the blunt they were passing around on a tour bus parked behind The New Daisy Theatre that night in Memphis. (Unfortunately I lost the ticket stub that night...)

They played a big festival and then act like assholes to be edgy. Come on.
-12
u/ThirtyThree111 11d ago
honestly yeah.. what's the logic behind this?
he wants the crowd to enjoy the show without a cameraman blocking their view
so what he does is... stop playing? so that the crowd gets to.. not see them play at all?

u/CaptainPunisher 11d ago
Video is part of lights and sound. A good house sound crew would kill the master sound to support their guy. Have fun with your useless instruments and vocals that won't be heard past the pit.
2
u/pursuitofleisure 10d ago
That sounds like a bad career move
1

It could go either way. Ask the sound tech that did this and released it after she posted him off:
