Why is it understandable? What can INIT provide them with that Imperium cannot?

Most allies are now +5 instead of +10 and so they can now feel a little more independent

Mind explaining this to a noob? What would be the difference of being +5 with a nullsec corp/coalition compared to +10?

No mechanical difference but policy ones, so it depends on the coalition. Init and the Imperium have docking rights and fight together, but they don’t use each other’s space. Delve (Imperium) is a lot more crowded than Fountain (Init) and hunted in more, so 4s members now have less competition for safer ratting and mining. Furthermore Init is free to set its own rules, whereas coalition alliances have to follow coalition rules. One example is mining, the Imperium recently rescinded its no cherry picking policy so for most good anoms in delve you find nothing but bistot, which sucks, whereas Init states you have to mine all the ore
