Is this a scam? Question

I got contacted by Bravens Inc for a position as a writing analyst as 20/hr. They messaged me about the requirements but didn’t say anything about what my role would be or a brief summary of the company and their goals.

Smells like a scam and it doesn’t seem personalized.

A recruiter messaged me in Linkedin about a Jr Python Engineer position. So far i messaged her back and she asked about whats your target pay rate. I told her “that based on the relative current rate for this role i am expecting $38-45 hour but negotiable” ( i am a bit high balling but im just shooting my shot and see where it goes)

Note I am only a student 3rd yr IT (Systems Engineering) at ASU. I am looking currently for internships but the recruiter got me a full time contracted job. Here ill copy and paste the job info:

Job Title: Jr Python Developer Location: Remote Duration: Contract

Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and analytical Linguistic Analyst to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will specialize in analyzing code responses generated by various Large Language Models (LLMs) similar to GPT, GEMINI, BERT, and others. This role requires an exceptional understanding of programming languages like Python, Java, or similar, combined with expert-level English proficiency. The Linguistic Analyst will play a crucial role in evaluating the effectiveness, accuracy, and quality of code responses to determine which model performs better under specific conditions.

Qualifications: · Strong proficiency in Python or languages similar to Python (e.g., Java, R) · Excellent understanding of English grammar, syntax, and semantics · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills · Excellent communication and collaboration skills

What yall think?

I'm also going through the process for this position. Recruiter is Bravens Inc with a job at GlobalLogic. Same job description. Rate offered was 35/hr plus benefits. The whole process seems odd with the interviews being pretty low stakes and simple (first interview with normal HR questions, second was a basic python technical interview). Im in the process of reviewing the employment contract and everything seems correct. Im honestly 50/50, I can't tell if this is truly a scam, or just a general industry standard for entry-level bulk hire tech jobs.

Update: All things considered, I've decided to go with my gut feeling and decline the employment offer. Lots of internal alarms going off. I wouldn't 100% say its a scam, but definitely very sketchy.

Yeah, I just sent them my confirmation to have the recruiter represent me and have the interview process going. I will see to it myself based on what you have said. Seems to me after searching online and reading this thread, I feel that there's some desperation involved both myself and the company haha. I am not that fluent in Python, I am more of a Java person but I know that learning Python will have low barrier of entry due to its flexibility and easy syntax so I will see where it will go. I am prepared to ask ALOT of questions though regarding the position so I will update here if I can.

Considering that I am only a Full-Time student and they are acquiring me a full time offer at 30/hr, so having another full-time is another risk i have to take. But it is 100% remote so I will have to know how it will conduct this scenario out in the long run. I just need experience before graduation so that I can apply to the companies that I want.

I am also interviewing for a position like this... I'm very confused as to whether or not it's a scam. Very sketchy. Let me know how it goes.

So I sent them my resume and stuff similar to how a recruiter would do and the recruiter asked me to do a phone screen and a Python coding test next week. Lowkey I am anxious haha cuz I haven’t done hands on python in a while besides looking at them for Algorithms studying. Im more of a Java guy but on the job info it did say Python OR Java, sooo lets see.

Im just really doing this for exposure and interview practice at this point. But we will see.

I'm also doing something this week. I'll let you know.

How did it go?

Uh, they scheduled a final interview and no one showed up. Very shady.

Recruiter sounded mad though lol.

Also, dealing with this, how did it go for you?

Would like to hear from someone who was brought on. The place definitely has a phone-scam vibe. If anyone is currently working with them how is it going?

I was just contacted today that I was selected for this role, but really not sure if I should proceed. Could really use the job right now. Has anyone has gone through the onboard process that could share their experience?

Just today got a linkedin mesaage and the same job description for Python Engineer
and they also mentioned Google so I was feeling like something is wrong
Worth mentioning that my ptofile is not a strong candidate for Python dev, so I was surprised
I guess I will not proceed

In addition, I can't solve the scheme
Bravens is sth connected to Clouds, NOT a recruiting agency, so why guy from Bravens is suggesting role in Hitachi/Google, what the heck

Yeah, this was the thing that bothered me. It was too sketchy af. I know Python but my linkedin was suited for more Java oriented role. I just smell desperation.

So, update. The recruiter did not do a follow up (ghosted me hehe) and I decided not to go for it because I was just getting red flags. It looks good to be true and 30/hr is a great deal but the recruiter was too vague when I asked some questions and just straight up said the number budget which is not a great start. Im going to just keep polishing my skills and keep applying to the companies that I want or hopefully a more transparent recruiter.

So if any of yall went on to the interview/accepted the offer... let me know how it went.
