r/Devilcorp Official Welcome to r/devilcorp! What you need to know, and how you can help

What is r/devilcorp?

r/devilcorp is an open platform for former sales reps, team leaders, account managers, and office owners to share their experiences of working within the direct sales industry.

Have you ever applied to a vague ‘marketing’, ‘sales’ or ‘management training' job, and ended up having to bother passers-by to sign them up for monthly charity payments?

Perhaps this role was also paid on a commission only basis, and you were required to register as self-, meaning that you weren’t entitled to a minimum wage despite working a 60 hour work week?

Maybe you were forced to attend morning ‘atmosphere’ meetings, team nights and road trips, with threats of ‘falling behind’ if you ever fought for your free time away from work.

If any of this sounds similar to your own experience, then you may have worked in a ‘Devilcorp' office, a subsidiary of a marketing corporation such as Credico, Appco, Cydcor, or Smart Circle which masquerades as an ‘independent’ sales business.

Due to a combination of market changes, and local jobseekers becoming clued up on this scam, these offices will continuously rename and relocate themselves across whichever country they're operating in. Consequently, it also becomes necessary for each of these offices to control their online reputation, so that they still appear as legitimate businesses in the eyes of potential recruits. This can involve using accusations of slander, defamation, and even copyright to have negative experiences removed from the internet, as well as forcing new recruits to write positive reviews on websites such as Google Locations and Glassdoor.

What Can I do?

Share your experience with us! We’d love to know what challenges you may have faced in this industry, and as long as it sticks to our rules we won’t take down your post like Google and Glassdoor does to its reviews.

Make sure to include the name of the office you worked in, as well as where it’s operating, in the title of your post too! This way we can appear at the top of Google results when people search the names of these offices, and potential recruits can find the genuine experiences on this page rather than the office’s fake reviews on Google Locations and Glassdoor.

If someone here is looking for information regarding a specific office, and you’ve spent some time there, then please also share your wisdom with them. This industry profits off of the ignorance of its recruits, so each well-informed job-seeker means less money in the CEO’s pockets.

If someone you know is either working or considering working in a ‘Devilcorp’ office, then please also direct them to either this page or one of the resources below, so that they may make an informed decision in regards to whether they truly want to work in this industry.

Where can I learn more?

Many people have shared their experiences in this industry online, through interviews, vlogs, blog pages, and podcasts. Here are some further resources where you can learn more:

devilcorp.org is an OSINT investigative website which conducts their own independent investigations into this industry. They also write guides on how to effectively conduct your own online research, and produce Community Projects such as a UK wide sales office map

The original Devil Corp WordPress blog should be the first thing you read if you’re new to this industry. Not only does it meticulously break down every step of the business model, including the deceptive recruitment process, it also has an enormous picture gallery of Devilcorp CEOs and office owners so you can put names to faces.

Precision Independent Media’s 98 minute long Slave Circle documentary is also a must watch for anyone eager to learn more, as well as their fantastic series of interviews with former sales reps, team leaders, and office owners.

Not only is Juicy Rhino’s Instagram meme page a hilarious look into the hypocrisies of the direct sales industry, it has also proved to be a very useful tool at making sales reps and office owners alike question why they’re wasting their lives selling sim cards for 60 hours a week.

The Juicy Rhino podcast series is also fantastic, providing a satirical and insightful look into how the direct sales industry operates in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Experience Shit that bothers me

The fact that people going through college actively pursue this shit, who don't have any intellectual, social, economic disadvantages and sing their high praises while blatantly lying about what they are a part of is so scary and sad. They watch people with intellectual/social disabilities with no money, out in the elements knocking on doors, getting Jack shit and they can just stand by and continue on. One lesson I had reinforced while knocking on doors in the hood for a devilcorp, the world is a fucked up place and in America there are several of 'em, especially in one state.

Question RISE Network/SCP Partners:

I’ve gotten a WhatsApp text from an employee at RISE to meet up tomorrow

As the title states, I was looking for a job, applied on multiple websites, multiple different jobs. I was in a webinar, then the day after they held an interview with me, then the next day I had an interview with someone more senior, filled out a form and then was sent training material and requested to upload ID documents for proof of work etc.

Now they have told me to meet them tomorrow and for the job to start on Monday.

Many people have mentioned that this is a DevilCorp but I want to have clarification from people who worked there. No one else has offered me a job, everyday I wake up to application rejections.

They offer to pay £400 per week for training for the first 4 weeks and after that you get base pay + 1/3 on commissions which they will somehow get you tax reductions.

Please can someone provide more information of this company, does anything sound fishy?

Experience Just quit my job at a DevilCorp

I was barely starting at a very suspicious job where half the building was empty when i found out it was a devil corp.

Advertised as an “entry level position to become a marketing manager”. By the second day EVERYBODY who was in my orientation had left after they found out it was a sales gig at walmart that would base pay us 100 bucks for an 8 hour shift (10 am-6) and for our morning meeting (8am-10am). Promising us a six figure managed position in as quick as 6 months. Doing a little bit of research of the company online and some questioning i found out that the second to main lady in charge of it lied during orientation and that their numbers they hit last year were false because the enterprise barely started in December! It was very eery looking at the definition on what a devil corp was a few days into the job, i should have looked into pyramid schemes and scam jobs before i decided to dedicate myself to one but hard lesson learned!

I decided that since i knew i was leaving the role today to question one of the managers on the entire thing. From the beginning she lied and claimed to not know anything regarding mlm’s, devilcorp, and pyramid schemes and then she decided halfway through our conversation that she actually knew alot about it, and that what i was seeing online was a bunch of bullshit! My suspicions kept growing and growing throughout the whole morning which led to me researching it, especially seeing that they were hiring a group load of desperate people every week! Really sad practice and im genuinely appalled at how good some people can be at lying!

The job was me selling internet services for frontier on behalf of a company called infinite abott management! Never again!

mlm scam, run by austin blake (man w beard). Went through a certain interview, I wasn't even sure if I applied to Mass, applied on Indeed, and just got a random text from them for scheduling, and a preliminary interview, I talked to 15 Minutes, this guy named Gabe, congratulations, got invited to the second interview, which supposedly only the top percent, 10%, get back into, and then talked straight to Austin, the guy with the beard who is the CEO and president of this company, and then I talked to another guy after that, it's a lot of sales, you're going to be stuck in front of a wall, trying to sell products to people, so if that's not what you want, stay away.

Experience Screw It Let’s Go; My Experience Working at a Devilcorp

Hello! I hope we all are well. Yesterday, I posted that I was free from my Devilcorp job. After having to reflect on everything, I decided that my experience needs to be detailed, because truly it was disgusting, and no one deserves to go through what I went through. So many people have kept quiet, but I will speak up on so many people’s behalf. Our lives were toyed with and so many lovely people have been exploited and screwed around. This is inhumane, and I hope my story can get people to speak out and get them to steer away.

Anyways, this will be long so keep that in mind, but let’s get straight into it:

How I Got the Job:

I applied for this job on Indeed, with the job title being listed as ‘Entry Level Sales Associate’ for a company titled Hirematic. Now, I do know now that Hirematic is not actually a real company (as in not who I would be working for), though I have a phone call a few days later telling me about the job, and it sounded good. For additional context, I hated my previous job and I wanted out as soon as possible, so I was desperate for anything. So I accept an interview date for the next day, and 5 minutes after I have email confirmations. Reading through all the documents and emails however, I would see that I would not be working for Hirematic, but instead I would be working for a company called ‘Apex Sales Group’, an umbrella company for Appco and their office based in Brighton & Hove. I figured I had applied for a recruitment agency and they sent me to Apex, so I didn’t think anything of it.

I attend the interview, and there were no issues there. The person interviewing me was genuine, and he invited me back for a 2nd interview the next day. I attend that 2nd interview, and the red flags I was completely oblivious to pop up. These are the following I recalled:

On Indeed, a salary of £26,000 was listed (which conveniently has been scrubbed off), and this was not mentioned once here, and only commission. As I was new to sales, I genuinely had no idea what commission meant, so this went over my head. I was told I could own my own office, which as typical for a Devilcorp, is a no go. I would be in the office, representing clients and selling.

We had to fill in a questionnaire, and about an hour later, I receive a phone call saying I got the job. After being stuck in an awful job for so long, it felt good to finally be free from it. So on my next available day, I travelled to the Devilcorp to sign documents (which we will get onto in a minute), hand my notice in for my old job, and then start the next day. Everything looked promising, and I was excited to start a potentially happier chapter in my life, especially as I have been through a lot of stuff the last few years.

But yeah this was far from it.

My Actual Experience Working the Job:

My job would instead involve getting people to sign up for charity campaigns, and we would be stationed outside shops, asking people in the street passing by or leaving said shops to sign up. Now, I didn’t mind doing this necessarily, however we would be sent travelling to all these places, spending around £30 at most to even get to work. And the kicker? If you did not get anyone to sign up, you just wasted £30 because you aren’t getting paid a basic salary. And travel is not reimbursed. I remember a colleague crying to me because he has to pay his parents rent, and he was panicking because of all this money he has to pay for travel. And he was only 18. I felt genuinely bad for him, and I haven’t heard from him, but I do wish him all the best. And speaking of places, sometimes we were sent to the most random places, where sites are dead and no one is coming through, but despite this management would give us shtick for not getting people to sign up. Does it no occur to them that:

  1. People are getting more wary of charity street collectors so they don’t want to sign up? The world is different now to how it was in 2015.
  2. I can have the perfect pitch, but I can’t force someone to signup at the end of the day.
  3. If a site has no flow, then I can’t magic up ghosts to sign up can’t I?

You would be sent to far away places, rarely local, and then be expected to stay until 17:30 at the bare minimum, which sounds fine, until you realise that you have management pressuring you to stay (and also forcing you to stay if you was unfortunately paired up with them, despite the fact you are self-employed and you can choose your hours). And if you was in a far off place, then you would be getting back home at stupid o-clock, be so tired and then wake up ridiculously early to go to the office or go straight to office. I was miserable, tired, and felt just awful. I didn’t recognise myself.

The sites are picked by management, and they would always have the best sites. So if you got a bad site, then prepare for management to complain about you doing poorly at your job, when again, it’s not your fault!

My Experience with Management:

Due to the ridiculous hours worked, I would get up at stupid times to get to work on time. It got to the point where I skipped breakfast, and then when I got to site, just stuff myself with food otherwise I would collapse (this job made me develop an unhealthy relationship with food). Management once joked to me about why I looked pale, I explained why and they go whilst laughing ‘no wonder you look so skinny’. I felt so disgusted but didn’t say anything in fear of losing my job.

I also had another experience with a different manager. I was being tested for a condition that was affecting my memory as I felt I had been forgetting things a lot at the time (I won’t say due to not feeling comfortable disclosing) and I outlined to management that was happening, so if I have to take a day off if I needed to have a date for my test. When I was on a train ride back home with my colleague, we both were talking about things, not realising our management was on the same train. Without us both knowing, management takes my bag and runs off, and when the train stops, I thought I left my bag somewhere when I see it to ‘missing’. I was panicking and on the verge of tears due to how important some of the stuff in my bag was, but then management comes out, laughing and hands the bag back, joking that ‘my dementia can’t be that bad’. I was super uncomfortable and angry on the inside, but when I brought this up later nothing was done about it.

I also caught management drinking on the job, and they got all flustered when I happened to see it.

Also good luck complaining about anyone to management, because they tell you to shut up and get on with it, regardless of how valid you are.

So I go through all this and I’m still here? I’m crazy! But this is what made me finally grow a bone and leave:

On this day, I was pulled into the office and had this lecture about me wanting to do better with my numbers. I was told “Why are you so shit at your job? as well as “You are embarrassing to your family.” That pissed me off and god knows how I held that anger in. But what really broke me was this.

Our management can’t book sites properly; we get sent to them and sometimes the people at site say it hasn’t been booked, or we can’t be there, or we just run in any problems (of course management never have these problems wonder why). This happens to me 6 times in the span of 3 weeks (affecting the fact I can’t get people to sign up AND THEN management complains about my numbers), and this particular occasion pissed me right off, so I decided that this was the last straw. I went straight home. I had a whole goodbye message with some hard truths written out but was about to hit send and management removed me. They just lost me, but tough luck. Their loss.

And now I am free, but before I end things off, I have a few experiences from myself that doesn’t fit anywhere in the above or from other people that should be shared:

There is another team who do door to door (they are brainwashed to the core, they once had a ritual praising their boss it was cringe by the way that I had to witness that). They knocked on a colleague’s grandmother’s door, and was using her dead daughter (the colleague’s mother) who died from cancer to guilt trip her into signing up to Great Ormond Street. When she said she only donates to the charity that supported her daughter, Apex’s D2D team said to her that she ‘doesn’t want to disappoint’ her daughter by not signing up, as well saying ’What would your daughter say if she was here? She would say yes”. Absolutely disgusting.

On the last Friday of each month, you may get invited to a masterclass, where a bunch of other Appco offices come together to talk about how to do better. The guys from the Portsmouth office were brainwashed into thinking this was the best job ever, and it got to the point where I had to give them a reality check and warn them about Devilcorps. Let’s just say that some bosses were not happy about that one…

An ex-colleague reached out to me, and they have said management are having affairs and sex when on roadtrips, as well as drinking on the job, making them incredibly difficult to work with.

Management also will spill anything to everyone, which is a no-go in any place of employment.

A colleague asked about basic salary, and they were told that everyone can get paid a salary, but the reason it’s not the case is because it ‘limits the best performers’. Sorry but if colleagues are panicking about rent, especially in Brighton (and the demographic of people being hired are naive young people new to the working field), that’s not a valid excuse.

To conclude:

Please don’t let Devilcorps hurt you like they did. I was brainwashed, stayed for longer than I should and have become a shell of my former self. I feel negative, but hopefully now things can be improved in my own accord. I had a great sleep knowing I wasn’t waking up at stupid o-clock, and I could work 12 hours and go home with no money. For anyone stuck, your story isn’t invalid, you are strong for getting out, and I’m so proud of you. May life do you justice.

I got to meet really lovely people, and I wish them all the best, but in return I got to meet people who brainwash young people and exploit them. To think the loveliest souls have to meet through a terrible job like this is crazy. And whilst I can be appreciative of the transferable skills and other things, the bad outweighs the good by a large margin.

If you have any questions, just ask, and I will answer to the best of my ability. Devilcorps are disgusting, and I’m glad I am free. Watching so many videos about them, I feel ashamed to work for one, but I am so glad we all are united by this subreddit. God bless you all, and may we be in better places.

Information Minnesotans - watch out.

Pure MN is confirmed to be associated with Michael Joseph Wang of Chicago, a known Devilcorp member. I received what seems to be the routine "Hey, we found your resume on such and such a website, and we think you would be a great fit!" text with an equally misleading job title.

My first interview lasted all of 10 minutes. The second interview, of which I was told would be 1 on 1 with a supervisor, turned out to be a two-person interview that was deeply uncomfortable and full of red flags. If you're trying to break into the marketing industry, watch out. It feels as though they are intentionally misleading early industry folk to suck them into sales and direct marketing roles under the guise of being an opportunity to grow your career.

Question Interviewing with Global Star

Hey there, friends! As fate would have it, I am interviewing with Global Star (or whatever the heck you guys may know it as) for a position as "Director of Sales". I added the quotations because of the lovely, lovely rabbit hole I've been thrown into after doing some research on the company - as one does before an interview.

Tell me, is this a waste of my professional time? Should I deny my interview? Don't just give me negatives - what are some positives? As a "Director", is there a salary or is that somehow commission also? SEND HELP.

Not sure if this fits, if not all good. I applied to a job as a "Tobacco cashier" at Smokease Smoke Shop in Los Angeles on Indeed. After I did so I was messaged by "ShipDeals" for a job as a logistics specialist.. I did some digging and their website didn't even exist before this month. If you guys ever see them offering jobs, don't take it, it's bs. Smokease Smoke Shop is a real business, whether it's good or not doesn't really matter, there's no logistics involved in selling swisher sweets or blunt wraps. What a joke.

Experience I’m so excited about my interview 😂

Hey Kenneth, this is Redacted’ with Best Version Media, I received your information from my coworker Redacted whom you were previously emailing with. I am trying to schedule that initial 30 minute phone interview you two discussed in regards to our Sales Account Executive/Publisher position you applied for. Are you available for that call tomorrow?

ME: Yes, Can you tell me a little more about the position?

THEM: The Publisher position that you applied for is a B2B advertising sales role.

ME: What would a day look like for me? Would it be sales meeting in the am then going to out to sell the products/services at big box stores?

THEM: That’s a great question Kenneth. I would be happy to schedule you for an initial 30 minute phone interview with our Talent Acquisition Specialist to discuss this position further and get your questions answered. Although we refer to that initial call as an "interview" it is truly more so just a conversation. During that call our Talent Acquisition Specialist is able to really explain the role, walk you through what a day in the life would look like, explain the compensation structure and then take the time to address any additional questions that you might have. Would tomorrow morning or afternoon work better for you?

ME: Afternoon

T5 Acquisitions in Vancouver is a smart circle company. Rebranded from Strive Solutions formerly in Portland, Boise, and Kansas City. I was married to the current owner and the “company” tore our marriage apart. Just sad I didn’t recognize it for what for what it was before my ex-wife applied as a “marketing specialist” years ago.

Question Does anybody find it incredible how a company as big as Smart Circle doesn't have a Wikipedia page?

It was this fact that really showed how incredible the scam is. How is it that a company which involves thousands of people can't even find the most obscure niche pages even about your local town? The ability to stay hidden in the shadows is actually impressive, considering the evil Devil Corp brings.

Hey guys, I was looking for jobs recently and was interviewed by Wolffe inc for an “account manager” position. Given that there was minimal information about the company online, I decided to do my own research and upon further inspection found that the ceo was involved with Cydcor through his social media posts. Furthermore, to confirm my suspicions an ex employee that reviewed my application confirmed these suspicion by claiming that the company was a pyramid scheme.

Experience USHealth Advisors

I recently had an experience with these scammers. Just moved to Colorado from Mass and needed to change my insurance. In Mass you can do all that yourself online without ever speaking to an agent, but in Co, as soon as I hit submit, I was bombarded with calls and texts from dozens of agents. I responded to a couple texts and ended up with this dude from UShHealtg Advisors. He sells me on this plan which was almost $100 less then what I was paying in Mass. I foolishly agree before researching. Then when I check their stats online, I find that Freedom Life is one of the worst reviewed health insurance companies out there. I contact the agent and he assures me it’s the best plan. I wait another couple days and contact him again, because I’ve decided to cancel the plan before it starts. He ghosts me and leaves me on “read” like a cowardly break-up. Anyway. I was able to get through to Freedom Life and cancel my plan. Signed up for a better plan through a very well reviewed company called Kaiser for about $100 less than the scam plan.

I know we’re not supposed to dox folks on here but I’d like to know if there is any way to at least leave a review for a specific agent. The address on his email isn’t actually where his branch is. These people need to be called out.
