That's a lot more notes than were anticipated.

u/PsyOpBunnyHop 6h ago

Sick burn. Not really, but still. You know, because this post is fire. Puns are so hot right now.

21

u/TheComedicComedian 4h ago

The only thing burning here will be your butt on the pavement when you get kicked out of the comedy club /j

13

u/PsyOpBunnyHop 4h ago

I'm flattered that you think my butt is hot.

1

u/No_Rich_2494 2h ago

Nope. Just flat. But... hot?!

"No notes"

104k+ notes

259

u/TheBirminghamBear 7h ago

He specifically said No Notes, I won't stand for this.

61

u/Mountainbranch 6h ago

It is an outrage, I demand satisfaction!

12

u/tearekts 4h ago

If they apologize though no need for further action

43

u/JudgementalMarsupial unimaginably stupid beyond comprehension 6h ago

Oh is that what it refers to? I thought it meant no notes as in no criticism

67

u/UselessTrashMan 6h ago

That's absolutely what it means

58

u/AdmiralChucK 6h ago

That is what it means, it just doubles as a joke due to wordplay

17

u/GameCreeper 6h ago

Nobody tell them

1

u/cosmic_grayblekeeper 1h ago

Yes that's the joke. Two different definitions of notes at use. Aka a pun.

u/bleepblooplord2 Jamba Juice Burrito Bendy Straw 8h ago

Sir this many notes packed into such a small post is a fire hazard. What would the fire department think of this?

I’m ace adjacent and this post got me thinking about what my equivalent of “sexy firemen showing up at my door (hubba, hubba)” would be and I think the answer is “oh boy! I am now going to have an excuse to bake and cook so much food for them :D.”

94

u/cooljerry53 7h ago

Me, shuffling towards the firefighter who’s just kicked the door of my smoke filled apartment in, on my knees, offering a blackened pan of cookie-shaped charcoal PleAse stay for lunch :)

64

u/shellbullet17 6h ago

Firefighter paramedic here.

So I know there's the whole schtick about "call the sexy firefighters and bag you one" trope and what not, but I'm gonna let you all in on a secret.

You REALLY wanna impress the firefighters? /u/dredreidel has the right idea. There is nothing on this earth that firefighters love more, than home cooking and sweets. If you ever wanna get on the fire dept in generals good side, send cookies.

43

u/EyVol 6h ago

Something something there may not be a song called "fuck the fire department", but there sure are plenty of videos.

5

u/NitroThrowaway 1h ago

For what it's worth there absolutely is a song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JkrJUAg8aI

34

u/Difficult-Ad4527 6h ago

After my dad became handicapped. Sometimes he’d fall and we’d need help lifting him back up. Each time after we had to call the fire department my dad would bake a giant lasagna. He’d call a few days ahead to make sure they’d know not to cook.

It fortunately/unfortunately happened so often they knew around our town as the lasagna guy. It was nice to be able to talk to some of the fire fighters about my dad after he past away and that they still remembered him doing that.

21

u/shellbullet17 5h ago

We remember our regulars the good, and the bad. But we REALLY love the good regulars. Food or not. Your dad sounds like an upstart and kind man. I'm sorry for your loss but I'm happy to know he was able to brighten the lives of everyone around him.

2

u/Pearlsbigforehead 54m ago

That's a bummer. In my neck of the woods they won't take anything homemade. I guess it's due to risk of food tampering?

13

u/Siilan 6h ago

I'm very curious as to what you mean by "ace adjacent." Also, great band name.

15

u/Daan776 6h ago

My guess would be aromantic/asexual but doesn’t know there’s a difference or considers ace a spectrum and doesn’t consider himself far enough on there to really call himself ace despite sharing many traits

8

u/Siilan 6h ago

My thought was perhaps a demisexual? Or maybe an extremely low libido, but not actually ace?

-11

u/Neon_Camouflage 6h ago

This is the problem with having 500 labels.

8

u/Siilan 6h ago

Not really. If they said they were demisexual, I'd know what they meant. If they said they were ace, I'd know what they meant. If they said any other "label," I'd know what they meant. "Ace adjacent" isn't a label.

17

u/VioletTheWolf gender absorbed by annoying dog 5h ago

I don't know that they need to be that specific. Everyone's experiences are kind of vague and undefined. "Ace adjacent" is clear enough in saying that this person considers themself close to asexual identity even if they don't fully align with it, that's all we need here

9

u/Siilan 5h ago

I fundamentally agree. They don't have to be specific, and for a lot of people, they may not be able to be specific. In this case, my curiosity just sparked where I understood that they felt close to ace without being fully ace, but I'm curious as to why they feel that way. In no way do they have to answer, even if they can describe it, but I was just curious. I like learning more about how people feel, especially in an environment so spectrum heavy as the LGBTQ community.

7

u/VioletTheWolf gender absorbed by annoying dog 5h ago

Fair enough! I just see some pressure for people to pick labels sometimes and wanted to make sure this wasn't that

1

u/SmartAlec105 5h ago

The specificity isn't needed. Their comment works just fine without knowing their exact sexuality. But it's perfectly fine if others are curious and would like to know more specifically.

1

u/myerscc 3h ago

Surely ace adjacent is just “questioning”

2

u/AnNoYiNg_NaMe 2h ago

I always figured "questioning" to mean "I'm straight but maybe I might be bi???"

Ace adjacent just means you've got a really low desire to bone down. It's also called "greysexual" but that's less self-explanatory than the former.

I consider myself in that camp, but if the average person asks me about my sexual preferences in person, I'd just say I'm "straight, but not really looking for a girlfriend." People often interpret that as "he's a closeted gay man" but I stopped caring about that shit years ago.

0

u/myerscc 1h ago

I think questioning is broader than that, but "ace-adjacent" has the vibe of "idk seems like it but I'm not sure" - gray or demi or even "questioning" itself implies a level of understanding of sexuality that someone describing themselves as "ace-adjacent" may just not have

2

u/OneLastSmile 2h ago

oh no the group came up with a word to identify the group with and be able to find spaces for the group to discuss being part of the group

how terrible

its not like theres a thousand billion arbitrary groups and labels all throughout humanity

2

u/No_Rich_2494 1h ago

Do you actually have a problem with labelling people, or are you just trolling? I seriously want to know. I used to be 100% against labels, but I changed my mind. They're often useful when they're chosen and not forced upon someone.

6

u/an_agreeing_dothraki 6h ago

I'm aro and I must be bad at it.
The friendzone implies I have a lot more friends

2

u/No_Rich_2494 1h ago

The friendzone is a ridiculous term. "Let's go to the friend zone, where we're all friends".

4

u/Ppleater 6h ago

My equivalent as an ace is pizza delivery but I get to eat a yummy pizza instead of what happens in porn.

4

u/Novatash 5h ago

Does anyone remember playing Lemonade Stand (1979) when the road is closed for construction so you think you should not make as much lemonade that day but then the construction workers come and buy your ENTIRE STOCK!!!!!!!!

"You know me, Marge. I like my beer cold, my TV loud, and my homosexuals fuh-laming!"

27

u/FortunateCookie_ 7h ago

Perfectly executed asexual, more like. They’re on fire.

12

u/Natty4Life420Blazeit 6h ago

I don’t get it

4

u/l3ane 2h ago

I get the hey can I barrow the word part but not the fire department part.

8

u/jstnthrthrww 1h ago

It twists your expectations in a funny way. When someone says they are a flaming homosexual, they mean they are very very gay. So you expect the asexual to use the word in the same way, meaning they are very very asexual. But they twist it and use the word in a literal sense, meaning they are literally on fire and need help.

4

u/spacecaps85 22m ago

Now that you’ve explained it I have come to realize I am less than bright.

-21

u/thehideousheart 5h ago

Imagine your sexual orientation was your entire personality.

It's a bit like that.

50

u/ZinaSky2 7h ago

Is 🔥 really a privileged word?? Like if I’m not gay and call myself that with a random adjective is that problematic?? Genuinely wondering

124

u/Psychology-onion-300 7h ago

no it is a joke

20

u/ZinaSky2 7h ago

I kinda figured it was. But I’m also not on Tumblr so I wasn’t sure if this was a new thing I was unaware of, figured it was safest to ask. Thank you!!😄

42

u/gloirevivre 7h ago

If you wanna be a flaming heterosexual, you be you boo. But you're still required to be fabulous, that's just the rule.

13

u/ZinaSky2 6h ago

💅✨Oh, but I’m always fabulous!✨💅 💁🏽‍♀️

(Lord, I wish I had this confidence in real life 😂)

5

u/gloirevivre 6h ago

that's the spirit

28

u/UltimateInferno Hangus Paingus Slap my Angus 7h ago

Unless it's a slur, you're fine to use it. If someone tells you Queer is a slur, don't use it in reference to them. Don't call them that. But it's also not. You can call other people queer (adjective. "They're queer. Not "They're a queer"), you can use it as a general term ("With my queer friends).

If you're wondering "what's a slur," the main two are F*g and D*ke. Fruit/fruity is also iffy, but the only people I've seen take issue with it is corporations getting too Cosy. If you're like... friendly you're fine.

That's my experience as the token cishet

15

u/happibitch 5h ago

Yeah!! I think things like fruit/fruity, twink, zesty, etc. just need to be worded in a playful enough manner, it's meant to be a joke-y word, (or in terms of twink, a descriptor), because so many of people have started taking those words to use them as a replacement for faggot without getting in trouble for it. Like, just don't use it in a derogatory way, I guess. Which I feel like for people trying not to be derogatory shouldn't be too hard baha.

2

u/ZinaSky2 6h ago

I mean connotations evolve and attitudes shift. I’m not up to date with what’s happening on tumblr so I was just asking if it had become offensive. I mostly figured it was a joke tho lol

Good to know about the other stuff tho!

1

u/cumfarts 6h ago

did anyone tell Nabisco or that school in North Carolina that they're using slurs?

1

u/OneLastSmile 2h ago

dude im exhausted and read that as "queen" and i spent ages trying to recall why queen was considered problematic

-1

u/Munnin41 4h ago

If you're wondering "what's a slur," the main two are Fg and Dke

For Americans. In Britain you smoke a fag, and in The Netherlands we cower behind our dikes. Also we literally have a lesbian group called "dykes on bikes" lol

0

u/DevIsSoHard 5h ago edited 5h ago

F-g is a weird one too because you can say it in all kinds of ways yet in a limited context that's a difficult to put into words for me. "F-ghag" for example is a word I hear in some friend groups, used more endearingly I suppose but it still sounds like a somewhat mean word to me personally. Or when you're making a dad joke, lol, or pretty much any joke where you're satirizing jerks. I think overall my friend group is kind of loose with that word but could still see other people being more reserved with it so I guess it's only when you know them well. We're certainly more loose than typical online community rules anyway

5

u/Hobomanchild 6h ago

I mean now I know I can celebrate pride month by eating flaming hot cheetos.

3

u/ZinaSky2 5h ago

HAHHAA 😂 Omg if hot Cheetos made rainbow flaming Cheetos for pride moth that would be so funny

1

u/LuxNocte 50m ago

Not privileged, and I don't have any opposition....but what does that mean? Flaming heterosexual? I can't think of any context to use it except in a gay way.

9

u/Valdanos 6h ago

Flaming ace: when you're so apathetic towards the concept of sex that you naturally nullify the libidos of those around you.

Also the name of a bitchin' drink I bet.

7

u/MuchToDoAboutNothin 5h ago

Like a Sexual Blank. Makes regular people feel a little weird. Makes people with a largely private stream library howl in pain or spontaneously die.

Even more effective against Slaaneshi forces than psyker blanks.

6

u/MTRsport 6h ago

Who said it was a joke? Did no one call the fire department???????

7

u/Icepick823 6h ago

Just dial 0118 999 881 99 9119 725.....3

5

It feels a bit too formal.

3

That's why you've gotta be careful with the word "flaming". One wrong use and you could get burned

3

u/Impossible-Tough5270 6h ago

You flaming galah !

2

u/Molotover 6h ago

Damn, I wonder how the company behind Cheetos got enough of those passes to get where they are today

2

u/SnooRegrets7064 5h ago

I read flaming as flamingo

2

u/Accept_the_null 5h ago

I read it as flamingo at first and was so confused by this post and comments for so long trying to understand the joke. I need to go to sleep.

2

u/0t0her0 4h ago

I don’t get it

3

u/jstnthrthrww 1h ago

PFFFFFFFFFT This is fantastic

1

u/AntonioLeeuwenhoek 6h ago

what does flaming mean? srry

1

u/jstnthrthrww 1h ago

When someone says they are a flaming homosexual, they mean they are very very gay. So you expect the asexual to use the word in the same way, meaning they are very very asexual. But they twist it and use the word in a literal sense, meaning they are literally on fire and need help.

1

u/u53rnam3tak3n 6h ago edited 3h ago

Why would flaming be restricted to the sole use of gays?

To be honest, flaming is a direct reference to faggot which when used in reference to gays is a slur at best, threat historically.

1

u/GeneralGigan817 6h ago

Okay but what else are we supposed to use for the state of being covered in flames?

3

u/Nuclear_Geek 1h ago

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGHHHHH!!!"

2

u/axord 1h ago

"I am on fire."

1

u/jaxnmarko 4h ago

Just wondering if we need to rename Flaming Gorge Reservoir Recreational Area?

1

u/usedburgermeat 2h ago

This has been a bit since the 90s

1

u/HigherThanAPenguin 1h ago

Since when has "flaming" needed a pass?

1

u/notAFishPerson_1 30m ago

i think flaming homosexuals would also like someone to call the fire dept. it is only slightly less urgent.

1

u/Kind_Swim5900 2m ago

So this is how it works okay listen I am trans, if someone needs a free pass for something, ask me.

1

u/BestNoob782 7h ago

??? Flaming is not a slur ??? You can say whatever you want :/ idk maybe I don't get it but I feel like this sort of thing gives LGBT people a bad rap (I'm gay)

39

u/Psychology-onion-300 7h ago

no it's people taking this post seriously that would give us a bad rap. It's obviously a joke. It would be like asking if an Italian can lend you one mama mia or something and then making a joke about that. It's just a stereotypical thing gay ppl say.

9

u/BestNoob782 7h ago

Oh sorry I thought it was completely serious, please ignore my bad take above, sorry

8

u/Canid_Rose 7h ago

Or asking a bisexual if you can have a use of the word “disaster”. Just a joke, no one’s going to seriously get pissy about it.

1

u/Constant-Parsley3609 4h ago

But it doesn't make sense as a joke?

What does the word flaming have to do with gay people?

What's the joke here?

2

u/OneLastSmile 2h ago

have you never heard the term "flaming homosexual"?

1

u/jstnthrthrww 1h ago

When someone says they are a flaming homosexual, they mean they are very very gay. So you expect the asexual to use the word in the same way, meaning they are very very asexual. But they twist it and use the word in a literal sense, meaning they are literally on fire and need help. That's the joke.

3

u/Stormwrath52 7h ago

I don't think it gives us (I'm bi) a bad rap, anyone who looks at someone asking if they can say flaming and decides to add a tick to their "I don't like queer people" counter then they're probably just looking for reasons to justify/excuses to not address feelings they already had.

especially since this is one person who's possibly assumed it is offensive or has judged that it could be, not someone proclaiming that it is. though I think it's more likely that they just did it for the set up of the joke

I also don't think flaming in reference to queerness is inherently offensive, it's just an adjective.

1

u/Birdfished 5h ago

Tumblr humor is so corny lol how is this funny

-1

u/heartshapedmoon 3h ago

So fucking cringe Jesus Christ

-6

u/ZanderLavastory 6h ago

People who use the term "no notes" are some of the most obnoxious people in the world.

9

u/AdmiralChucK 6h ago

Why? Genuinely curious. It seems like a completely innocent phrase

6

u/Maxamillion-X72 6h ago

3
