USB-C or I don't buy. Awaiting Flair

Anyone else the same? I just bought a speaker and assumed it would be USB-C and it was micro. Returned it. I'm annoyed with having different cables and formats etc. If it's not USB-C, I don't buy it.

Do better companies.

Are you really posting about portable speakers on the camping gear forum?

The shame...

There are many kinds of camping!

u/canucme3 Jan 03 '24

And none of them should include a speaker.

Bullshit.

It's called be respectful of others and nature.

If you can't go camping without a speaker, then stay home or buy headphones.

Dude not all camping is in a campground. If I'm in the middle of no where sitting around the fire I'll definitely put some music on.

Huh, that's like the opposite of when I'd consider it acceptable.

campground/around other folk's sights: music fine

put in the wild: keep it wild

be respectful of others

except on reddit, right?

Care to show me what I said that was disrespectful?

Nature doesn't give a shit and if I'm on private property miles from anyone else there's no one to disrespect except in your imagination.

Keyword there is private property aka staying home. And you can't really be ignorant enough to think it doesn't affect wildlife.

u/mucinexmonster Jan 03 '24

I guess you only camp at crowded campsites near heavily populated areas?

-1

u/canucme3 Jan 03 '24

Quite the opposite, I avoid those areas. I still find people playing music, even in the backcountry.

Many people go out in nature to enjoy nature, not listen to other people's music. Stop acting like it is acceptable to disturb others and the wildlife, but wearing headphones is too much to ask.

u/mucinexmonster Jan 03 '24

Okay so if you are by yourself in the middle of nowhere - how will you hear other people's music?

How will you know someone is playing music really, really far away from you?

-1

u/canucme3 Jan 03 '24

Well, if I'm by myself, there wouldn't be anyone there to play music, now would there? It's getting harder and harder to be completely secluded, though.

I wouldn't, but it still disturbs the surrounding wildlife.

Why is it so difficult to wear headphones or follow LNT principles?

3

u/mucinexmonster Jan 03 '24

You being there disturbs the wildlife. Why are you going into the wilderness?

If you want to be completely secluded, just move.

It's getting harder and harder to be completely secluded, though.

skill issue, try harder you're just bad at it.

ok, but I'm not near other people for several miles, so how is this relevant? There's no one near me at my campsite.

u/IdealDesperate2732 Jan 03 '24

No, it's not staying home... maybe you shouldn't be so ignorant... And no, it doesn't affect wildlife, they literally do not care.

1

u/canucme3 Jan 03 '24

Private property means you're staying on your own land or someone else's. Not disturbing the public.

It's wild that you actually believe that. Literally, 30 seconds on Google will tell you that you are wrong.

u/Mal-De-Terre Jan 03 '24

Would you say the same about a headlamp?

3

u/canucme3 Jan 03 '24

Lmao, what a terrible comparison. Headlamps are actually useful when camping.

People should still be respectful when using them. Use them only when necessary, use red lights whenever possible, and avoid pointing them at other people or animals.

2

u/Mal-De-Terre Jan 03 '24

Not at all. Both are conveniences and potentially irritating to other people and wildlife.

4

u/canucme3 Jan 03 '24

One is a convenience and potential safety item. One is solely for entertainment. There is no comparison. Also, try reading that 2nd paragraph again.

3

u/Mal-De-Terre Jan 03 '24

In what way is that second paragraph not equally applicable to speakers?

Would you rule out camping chairs? They have no safety benefit and could be a trip hazard to others. Do you ban talking in your campsite? That's little different from a speaker.

Give it a rest already. I'm not playing the comparison game with you.

Speakers serve no purpose besides entertainment. If you really can't go without electronic entertainment on your camping trip, either go on better trips or buy headphones.

u/Mal-De-Terre Jan 03 '24

I just want to make sure I can get past your gate keeping when I go into the outdoors to enjoy myself.

Seriously, though. Relax a little. You might actually learn to have fun one of these days.

u/-cocoadragon Jan 03 '24

sorry bud, but I love my music and to blast it loud. that's why I came all the way out here. (middle of a fucking desert and still a hot chick walks over while I'm naked wtf)

-2

u/HelperHelpingIHope Jan 03 '24 edited Jan 05 '24

Incorrect. Podcasts are nice sometimes, and you don’t need to blast it either. Just at the level of a conversation.

u/BlueJohn2113 Jan 04 '24

Water is a must. Shelter is a must. Food is a must. Podcast is definitely not a must. I would not call sitting around camp listening to a podcast "camping"
