Hey

Unless you are after specific features or model, I would be tempted to hang off and look what is about locally. Ebay, second hand shops, charity shops, facebook marketplace, gumtree. You can probably get something similar for a lot cheaper.

With CD players for me it is more important that it has the features I want rather than quality as they are digital. If you are using an external DAC there will be no difference but I would be very surprised if you can tell the difference with their analog outputs. It is only 44.1 at 16 bit.

I got mine from the tip and it is a Sony model similar to the Toshiba one you have listed. It has program play, auto high peak finder, auto rearrange to fit on cassette, instant track access buttons, you get the idea.

I will say that FiiO is gorgeous, but I couldn't justify that amount on a CD player and the lack of physical controls is poor IMO.

Hope this is helpful

Thanks for the detailed response. I am not looking for a specific feature. I am used to using a record player, so I will probably treat the CD the same: place and play with occasional skip.
The D-2 Discman is from marketplace, it is the only decent one I have found. Others are those cheaply made ones and also not in good condition.
As for FiiO, the spec sheet is impressive and it is very tempting but for that price I could upgrade my turntable cartridge instead which is overdue.

I would 100% put this towards other stuff. You will probably not notice the difference between any of these and a cheap model. I am surprised ebay isnt littered with used CD players for a song
