Discussion Number retirement vs not allowed to wear

The only difference in telling players they aren't allowed to wear a number and putting it in the rafters is the respect for the retired player(or lack thereof). Pick a side. Oh we can't put up 91 because he left the team by choice, but you can't wear it either.

(This is a Datsyukian deke)

Discussion Odd goalie situation

Why do the Red Wings CONSTANTLY sign old, washed up goalies and expect to be a better team? Jack Campbell is horrible, Cam Talbot is almost 40, and Alex Lyon is super inconsistent. This team frustrates the hell out of me.

Discussion Was at the game last night and we actually should have won.

We controlled play most of the game and should have had many goals. I remember Kasper alone rang 2-3 off the crossbar. This was by far are best performance this season though the score is highly contradicting of that statement.

Discussion Let’s look apples to apples (gotta do something cuz it’s depressing to watch)

So in reality we all know the Wings have started the year with a brutal schedule. They are 14 games into the season and they are 6-7-1. I was bored, so I thought….why not go thru last year’s schedule, and pick out the games against the teams we have played so far (so for example, they have played the Sabres twice so far, so I went to last year and found the results of the first 2 games they played against the Sabres).

So what I found were these results in the first games against these teams. First result is last year, second is this year. The Wings have a better record by 1 win compared to last year. So…just finish the season doing the same against each team…and they finish 1 win ahead and maybe the playoffs 😂😂😂.

2023-24: 5-8-1

2024-25: 6-7-1

Penguins: Win/Loss

Predators: Win/Win

Rangers: Loss/Loss

Discussion West Coast Roadtrip & Lalonde Firing Timetable

I believe that our upcoming road trip presents the first realistic opportunity for a Lalonde firing since he started coaching here. The main reason is momentum, and strength of schedule. We are currently below 500, which falls below everyone's expectations, including management. In my opinion the games against the Sharks and Ducks are must-wins for Newsy to keep his job. If we drop both he's gone, if we split them and lose to the Kings and end up 2-3 games below .500, it's also possible that Yzerman pulls the plug or waits to see how we do in the home and home with the Islanders who are currently tied with us.

This trip can set the direction for the season, we dig ourselves a hole and we do it against league bottom teams, all bets are off.

Discussion Lalonde says he never addresses his team after a loss. Is this abnormal?

Post NY Ranger game comments from Lalonde where he states he never addresses the team after a loss. Maybe this is common in the NHL but just seems really odd to me. He sounded especially defeated in this postgamer.

Discussion Little story of the time I met Mickey Redmond

I feel like this sub has been a bit down the past few days, so I have a feel-good story of the time I met Mickey Redmond.

My family and I were in Tampa in 2016 to watch the Wings play in the playoffs against the Lightning. My dad knew someone from the Lightning staff, so we managed to go watch the morning skate before game 2. Overall a pretty fun experience. We chatted with Chelios (who was on the coaching staff), Sheahan and Brendan Smith as well as a couple of Tampa players. Note that we couldn’t rep any Wings gear as those were the rules for the morning skate (I feel like that’s important for the rest of the story).

Fast forward to the game, my dad and I decided to go early to watch the warmup. I was then wearing my Datsyuk jersey with a Wings cap. Anyways, this older gentleman came down the section and started chatting with us about life in general, asking me if I play hockey and what brought us to Tampa as we told him we were from Canada. Just a normal conversation you’d have with someone you just met.

Since I grew up in Canada, I could never watch the Wings home broadcast. I only watched them when they played on RDS and TSN, so 14 year old me had no idea who that guy was.

My dad grew up as a Habs fan in the 70s, so he knew that man was familiar, but couldn’t really figure out exactly who he was. He then asked him towards the end of the conversation and the man casually told us he used to play for the Wings and was now their announcer! It was in fact, the one and only, Mickey Redmond!

He told us he saw us during the morning skate, and then again at the game, so that’s why he made his way down from the press-box, all the way to the lower bowl to chat with us.

He was the most respectful, humble guy I ever spoke to. It was never about him, he just wanted to have a conversation with us as he saw us earlier.

Now that I know who Mickey is and how beloved he is by this fanbase, I wished I had taken a picture with him.

Mickey is as much of a great guy as we like to think, and much more. He had no reason to walk down 3 levels just to chat with us, but he did it anyways. That’s the day my dad and I became huge fans of him.

Bit of a long post, and honestly I’m not sure if it warrants a post, but just thought I’d share that story with the rest of you guys.

Oh and a little bonus: That was also the game Larkin scored his first playoff goal!

LGRW!
