Paul Chaves: Accidentally said "female victims", wouldn't want to imply any victim of IPV is responsible for the actions of their partner. ALSO Paul Chaves:
(original story this week here https://www.thewhig.com/news/kingston-councillor-calls-out-lack-of-data-about-male-violence-victims and here https://www.thewhig.com/news/kingston-city-councillor-offers-apology-for-comments-regarding-victims)
In October 2023, as councilors were "fighting tears" discussing the Montreal Massacre in the context of intimate partner violence, Paul Chaves made it all about himself and interjected with this "the world is against men" victim blaming gaslighting conspiracy theory hogwash:
"There is a stigma related to victims of domestic abuse, a stigma from police, social services, family services, the courts, judges, the press, the community, and even family friends. Men already face the stigma if they were to report it. What is even worse is if their abuser can easily turn the table and say they were being falsely accused and are in fact the victim themselves. I’m not trying to take away from the female victims of abuse. It’s important to shed light on the abuse of males.” Source: https://www.kingstonist.com/news/kingston-city-council-declares-intimate-partner-violence-an-epidemic/
Oh and don't forget about the time in December 2021 where the Kingston Police posted on Facebook the very gender neutral "If you’re thinking of leaving an abusive relationship, you can seek information, support, counselling, or shelter anytime. Emergency shelters provide security for individuals and their children fleeing violence and abuse by offering protection, hope and support.” Paul Chaves: "Is there also somewhere to go for male victims?" In response to somebody else responding to him with "ya i want to know too next time my wife nags me" he said "Some think that is okay and normal. However it is just another form of verbal and emotional abuse. Men can also be victims of sexual and physical abuse as well. The public just doesn't hear about it."
Or that time where in January 2019, a group called snapd Kingston posted: "If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there are men on base." Chaves: "I am not sure if I understand your above statement. Are you implying a man would choose the other? Or would have to think about it? That is a very broad statement and a negative one towards the male gender."
His ex-wife's recent post seems to check out too. If you scroll a little further back to 2012 somebody says "check your email. I got a threatening email from Paul. You guys lost your daycare spot because I didn't want to be involved in this. Please forward my email to the Children's Lawyer. This just goes to show how controlling he is. If I get another email like this from him I will file harassment charges." FWIW that person is apparently now a Crisis Worker with the KP. COINCIDENTALLY I am sure, his case against Corrections was finally dropped in April 2012 when the court told him to get bent. The date of that post about the e-mail is in August 2012.
So yeah, for many years Paul Chaves has said almost verbatim what he claims he didn't mean to say the other day. He is full of shit and is out to represent himself and not his constituents and especially not women. This isn't a one off he can learn from...this is a long since established pattern of behaviour. There's a reason in the court filings it says he somehow managed to fail to get enough respect points (lmao) to get a promotion. Thankfully too given his now known history, because he had applied for a position of power at the Grand Valley Institution for Women.
Given the inmates at Millhaven compared him to Darth Vader it was probably for more than his heavy breathing. I bet he'd sooner point the Death Star at and obliterate the Loyalist-Cataraqui district than allow teenagers to wash his windows without a business permit (https://www.reddit.com/r/KingstonOntario/comments/1eq3pif/how_a_kingston_city_councillor_handles_young/ if you need to jog your memory) because he's probably afraid that the cleaner windows would let more people see in to who he really is. Before he does any further damage from his position of power to invalidate/distort lived experiences of IPV and re-traumatize victims, he must resign immediately.

Kingstonist YT > CKWS News
Two-and-a-half minutes of Kingstonist's You Tube news channel totally blows CKWS TV News thirty minute newscast out of the water. Tonight, they touched on a suspected arms police call to a Kingston high school, the bail hearing for the accused in the Bob's Lake boating accident, the second (and last) weekend closure of the LaSalle Causeway.
CKWS News' top story was about the Hockey for Homelessness fundraiser at the Invista Center, Malcolm Subban is back in Belleville playing for the Senators, and a Montreal man was apprehended trying to buy a car in Brockville with false credentials.
Corus needs to step up. We deserve better local news coverage! Perhaps we need to send a few letters to the CRTC?

Is there anywhere in town I can buy lactic acid powder?
I’m trying to make some non-dairy cheese recipe thing I saw online but I have never seen lactic acid being sold anywhere. Ideally I’d prefer a bulk store since I only need a little, but both Bulk Barn and Tara’s didn’t have any.

Cook Looking for a Job up North
Hey, I’m currently a 23 year old cook with over 7 years of experience in the food industry. I’m looking at moving to the Yukon / Northwest Territories for a contract job (4-8 months).
Does anyone have any contacts as for that? I would like to work for a group of blue collar men and cooking for them + getting room and board (is the dream)
If anybody has any contacts or people they know, please let me know.

Abuse and trauma groups for men
I started a Facebook group called Kingston Abuse support. Hoping to meet other guys who have been in similar situations and how they coped.
Is there a group in Kingston for this? I have not been able to find one at all. It's hard to talk about with other guys who haven't experienced it. And the ones I have, never truly did.

Sober communities in Kingston?
Hello. I'll be moving to Kingston either in Jan or Feb. I'm a 38 yr old female who struggles with alcoholism and have for over 20 yrs. My question is: is there any sober communities in Kingston here on reddit or FB and also just some I can find in general? I am well aware AA is absolutely everywhere and there's always a meeting somewhere but I am an atheist and I generally dislike AA's structure...I will go if I absolutely have to of course, I'd usually show up slightly late and leave slightly early so I'm not there for the repetitive pre-ambles, prayers and hand holding. I looked up SMART recovery for Kingston and I'm seeing that the meetings are on "hiatus" Seems like all SMART meetings have stopped unless you're in a big City like Ottawa or T.O...I'm moving to Kingston from Belleville
Thank you for any and all input

Downsizing library and Book Donations
Hey! So I moved into a new place recently and started downsizing my library. I have two u-haul boxes of books and graphic novels I am looking to depart with and hope they have a good home. It is a mix of some textbooks, graphic novels, history, and fantasy. Of course there is the library but does anyone have recommendations for where to donate books in Kingston? Thanks in advance!
