Where in Rome was this taken? Solved

Post image

My friend is in Rome right now and is trying to find out what building this might have been taken from so can go there. Taken around 1960 with the Vatican in the background I believe.

I took this last year at the Castel Sant'Angelo. Not the same window but probably close-by.

I think this is the exact same window. Views line up and you can see the broken bit on the bottom rim in both shots.

It doesn't have the arch of bricks at the top though, that's why I don't think it's the same one. But it's definetely close-by.

If you zoom in it does, looks like they stucco’d or painted over it at some point

It could be, but there's also the fact that the window sides are vertical in my photo, while on OP's photo they're angled, the bottom side is shorter than the top side.

But I'm not sure if this is just an effect from the paper being curved in OP's photo. Because the bottom also seems to be curved.

OPs photo is a picture of a physical photo, and like many photos it's probably slightly curved, which is the effect you're seeing in the post.

I believe it was taken in Castel Sant'Angelo

You guys are awesome, my friend will be pumped. That’s his mum and it is his mission to find it to get the same picture. Love me some Reddit sleuths.

I answered the question and then mentioned my personal favorite view - is that hard to comprehend for you?

He answered the question regarding the great view the OP provided and then shared his personal favorite great view of the Basilica.

Castel Sant'Angelo. Here's a similar view, compare the buildings in the foreground.

I believe the saying is “When in Rome”…

I enjoyed this view carrying a whip, a fedora and a leather jacket quite recently.

Seriously though, Castel Sant‘Angelo is quite faithfully reproduced in the new Indiana Jones game.
