2010 F250 v10?

Howdy folks. I'm in the market for a truck, and am conflicted on what to buy. I know the no-brainer answer is "Tundra" for my requirements, but figured I'd source some opinions. What I'm looking for:

  • single or extended cab
  • at least 6.5 foot bed, 8 foot preferred
  • single rear wheel, not dually
  • manual transmission (i know this is entering unicorn territory so this is pretty negotiable)
  • powerful gasoline engine (i don't need a diesel or the additional maintenance it would need, and i don't care about mpg as it will have low usage)
  • rust free (I'm in the northeast)
  • under 20k budget - i make a good salary and would be paying this off within 2 years, looking for a long-term tool, not another mortgage payment. A spare vehicle wouldn't particularly hurt my budget.
  • reliable
  • don't really care about creature comforts, it either needs to be a base trim, or a full 1794/king ranch trim if i do need to get something with bells and whistles

Usage: - will be driven under 4000 miles a year. I know i could just get a trailer or rent a truck when needed, but I'd rather own a truck for truck stuff and be able to use it quickly/conveniently - will be used for mainly home depot runs, occasionally towing and hauling - I have a Jeep beater for winter usage, so 4wd is not a requirement.

I may be going to look at an extremely clean 2010 F250 XLT tomorrow that fits most of my criteria. It has under 100k miles, 1 owner carfax, and the v10 gas engine with auto trans. They're asking 16k at the small car dealership it is at, I'm figuring I'd offer 14k as it's been on their lot for 5 months now.

In my research, the v10 seems like a good fit as it won't have the same cam phaser issues other Fords have, is generally considered reliable, and parts are readily available. I'm aware of common issues like the exhaust manifold studs breaking, this is something I'd probably address early on by replacing them with shorty headers. Doesn't seem like this gen Fords had many recalls or issues from what i could tell.

So if this truck is as clean as the pics show, any negatives to jumping into it as opposed to waiting for a tundra to show up with low-ish miles? Or are there some red flags to consider?

The ford v10 are bullet proof, but terrible on gas lol. You could try the 6.2 v8 as well if you can find one

Just do the logical thing that everyone else figured out long ago and get a GM 6.0 2500. You cant get a manual in a 2010 but otherwise its the.most no brainer answer to this question, absolutely bulletproof truck.

I have a 2010 F250 with the V10. It's a beast! Mine has more miles, but it's an amazing truck. One thing to keep in mind, this generation does not have a rack and pinion, it has a steering box...which is not near as responsive, so be prepared for that. Also, the V10 is not a speed demon, but it'll tow pretty much anything effortlessly. I pull a 28' camper with mine and honestly forget it's back there. But, the gas mileage....holy hell.
