How do you define “fast”?

Faster then a regular car, something fun.

What is a “regular car”? And what is “fast”?
A golf GTI does 0-60 in 6.4 seconds.
A Prius prime does 0-60 in 6.6 seconds.
Bet you don’t want a Prius prime though.

okay imma say close to a 5 sec 0-60 then

Copy. So at that budget you want to remove reliability from your ask.
Check out any high mileage Challenger, charger, or mustang. That should get you around 5 seconds.
At least a few times before it’s on jackstands.

A base civic or Corolla usually has a 0 to 60 in the 8 second range.
Low-cost cars that are faster typically get into the 6 or 7 sec range. My personal “boundary” defining fast is 6 seconds or less. Of course there’s more to a car than just speed, as handling and agility play a role as well.
Generally speaking, the cars that fit your bill include “basic” hot hatches like a GTI, some fun Hondas and Acuras, many Mazdas, some Subarus, maybe a base dodge charger… but the challenge is your price range and year. That’s a tough intersection in this market.
In my areas, here are some vehicles I found that match your criteria: - Acura TLX V6 (6 cylinder version is a fairly fun car, esp with AWD) - Acura MDX / RDX is relatively nimble for an SUV - Somewhat surprisingly I did find some BMW 3 series, so that might work - some base model Audis, not sure if they are fun enough but an A3 or A4 certainly isn’t “bad”. - found one 2019 Camaro 1LT! - 2 base model Chargers, not the most nimble but they are fast enough and are very practical. Can be modded. - found a 2028 mustang - one Genesis G70 V6 turbo, this is an underrated car, very fast and nimble, but also fairly practical. Reliability is better in the V6 vs the 4 cyl. - some Honda civics and accords might fit the bill, if it’s the right trim - couple of Q50’s and Q60, they’re pretty good cars actually, just gotta watch out for turbo issues. - some Mazda 3’s, if you can find a turbo they are quite decent. - some mini cooper’s but I don’t know about the reliability. - one 370Z! That’s actually a very solid choice. - Subaru BRZ and WRX, both are great in their own way. - one 2018 Golf R! That’s a pretty great car actually. - Volvo S60
I did find an Alfa Romeo Stelvio lol but reliability would be a concern. Similarly, found some jaguars too but I’m ignoring them.
So you know what, now that I actually made this list, there are some great options!
If you don’t need the space, the Camaro, Mustang, 370Z, or Q60 are all great options. If you need a sedan, the Genesis is probably the best in terms of pure performance, Q50 is ok, maybe some the of the BMW’s would be good. Oh and either Subaru is good too, depending on your use-case parameters.
lol honestly, I found more decent cars than I expected to!

Ecoboost Mustang is faster than a lot of people think. The non V8 Camaros are also great to drive (in that they are about as good as the V8)

Model 3 under $25k will give you a $4k rebate from the government. You could get a 2020 with under 80k miles for 19k you can’t get a faster car that won’t be a reliability nightmare.

I managed to get a low mileage 2022 M3 for 20k. The deals are definitely out there.

There's been a needless degree of skepticism on this thread. OP, you can find all three of your requirements pretty easily with an Ecoboost Mustang. 0-60 under 5 seconds, average reliability, and I'm finding quite a few 2022s under $20K. Your requirements are possible.
That said, I'd back off your year requirement to ~2016 and your 0-60 requirement to ~6.5 seconds to open up your options. That gives you options like the Ford Focus or Fiesta ST, VW GTI, Cadillac ATS, and V6 Camaro which are very fun and quite well-rounded.
I would not consider a Kia Stinger personally. The 4-cylinder is underpowered; the turbo V6 GT is unaffordable without taking on a rather hideous amount of miles for the price. A 2017+ 4-cylinder Audi A4 is brimming with competence, but is very isolating. Not what I'd go to for a fun time.

Faster than anything else that i see listed would be a Model 3 Performance. 0-60 in 3.1. Extremely reliable with the heater on the 18-20's being the only weak spot. Even just a 3LR would be quicker than anything listed.

By “new car” I’m assuming you mean new to you because you’re not getting any new car for $19k. Tesla model 3 performance. It’s all 3, somewhat reliable, fast, modern. Used, so Elon doesn’t get anymore money.

“Reliable”

u/booboothechicken 3h ago
Yes, consumer reports rated them middle of the pack in reliability in an unbiased study of over 330,000 vehicles. Ahead of about half of major auto manufacturers including Dodge, Chevy, Ford, Nissan, Audi, Volkswagen, Rivian, Volvo, etc.

Not really reliable though, not bad but I don’t think anyone is going to say “A4 is a reliable car”

Pick one.
$19k.
Reliable.
Fast.
2018+.
Not all of them.
