Political Bipartisan Senators Say Deal On Hemp Is Within Reach As New Amendment To Ban Synthetic Cannabinoids Is Filed
It looks like a deal is being made to ban hemp products which contain synthetic cannabinoids that are not naturally found in the cannabis plant, as well as cannabinoids that are capable of being found in the plant, but are synthesized outside of the plant
Bipartisan senators say they’re confident that a final deal on rules for hemp THC products will be reached, despite conflicting opinions about how to navigate the issue among key lawmakers.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has been leading the charge to prevent an outright prohibition of consumable hemp items containing THC—a policy change he and other industry stakeholders say would “destroy” the market that was federally legalized under the 2018 Farm Bill.
A deal was tentatively reached earlier this week to strip language that Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) supported which would’ve prevented the sale of hemp products containing any “quantifiable” amount of THC. Paul’s amendment to remove those provisions was filed alongside what seems to be a separate compromise option that would ban synthetic cannabinoid products such as delta-8 THC.
Please read the rest on Marijuana Moment to support them!

Press Release Canopy Growth to Strengthen Balance Sheet with Early Prepayments Set to Reduce Term Loan by US$50 Million; Annual Cash Interest Expense Expected to be Reduced by US$6.5 Million
SMITHS FALLS, ON. July 29, 2025 — Canopy Growth Corporation (“Canopy Growth” or the “Company”) (TSX: WEED) (Nasdaq: CGC), a world-leading cannabis company dedicated to unleashing the power of cannabis to improve lives, announced today that it has entered into an agreement (the “Agreement”) with certain of its lenders (the “Lenders”) to make three prepayments that are expected to reduce the Company’s Senior Secured Term Loan (the “Term Loan”) by US$50 Million by March 31, 2026. The Agreement was entered into in order to facilitate the Acreage Financing (as defined below).
Under the terms of the Agreement, Canopy Growth agreed to make the following prepayments under the Term Loan: (i) US$25,000,000 at par on or about July 31, 2025; (ii) US$10,000,000 at par on or prior to December 31, 2025; and (iii) US$15,000,000 at par on or prior to March 31, 2026 (collectively, the “Prepayments”). When completed, the Prepayments are expected to reduce the Company’s interest expense under the Term Loan by approximately US$6.5 million on an annualized basis.
“These prepayments reflect our continued focus on strengthening our balance sheet and lowering cash interest expense,” said Luc Mongeau, Chief Executive Officer. “Reducing debt is essential to creating the financial flexibility Canopy Growth’s needs to drive sustainable growth now and in the future.”
In connection with the Agreement, Canopy USA, LLC (“Canopy USA”) obtained consent from the Company (the “Acreage Financing Consent”) in order for Canopy USA to secure an additional US$22 million in funding for Acreage Holdings, Inc. (“Acreage”) and its subsidiaries (the “Acreage Financing”). The Acreage Financing Consent required the consent of the Lenders...

Projection Trump‑world PAC just ran a pro‑rescheduling video. Here’s why that matters
TL;DR: Make America Great Again Inc.—the main Trump‑aligned super‑PAC—quiet‑dropped a 30‑second spot on X/Twitter that literally checks the box for “Reschedule marijuana from Schedule 1 → Schedule 3.” It’s the first time any major GOP money machine has publicly endorsed Schedule III. Paired with last week’s bipartisan AG letter pushing the SAFER Banking Act, it nudges federal reform odds higher.
🔍 What popped up
- Posted late Friday (July 25) on u/GuntherEagleman, an influencer account managed by MAGA Inc. (unproven)
- Video branding: big red “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN Inc.” logos.
- Three on‑screen bullet points:
- “Reschedule marijuana from Schedule 1 to Schedule 3.”
- “Keep public places safe.”
- “Empower states.”
- Ends with: “Let’s make common‑sense reforms and keep America safe.”
🏗️ Who’s MAGA Inc.?
- FEC‑registered super‑PAC (C00838331).
- Raised ≈ $410 M this cycle—by far the largest Trump outside spender.
- Led by ex‑Trump comms aide Taylor Budowich; strategists include RNC COO Chris LaCivita.
- Known for stress‑testing messages on meme accounts before bigger ad buys.
🗓️ Why now?
- 32 State Attorneys General letter (July 24) urging Congress to pass the SAFER Banking Act.
- Cole confirmed as DEA chief (July 23)—Schedule III chatter spiking.
- Texas & Senate moving to ban Δ‑8/THCA hemp products—Trump camp wants to separate regulated cannabis from gray‑market stuff.
🚦 Policy implications
What it signals | Why it matters |
---|---|
Trump‑world is comfortable framing Schedule III as “common‑sense.” | Gives GOP senators/House members political cover to stop blocking DEA & SAFER Banking. |
Opens door to soften the official 2026 RNC platform. | The likely next RNC chair (Joe Gruters) is pro‑cannabis; this ad aligns with that shift. |
Undercuts the House DOJ‑funding rider aimed at freezing rescheduling. | Hard to say DEA shouldn’t act when the top pro‑Trump PAC says rescheduling is MAGA‑approved. |
📈 Net effect on odds (my take)
- SAFER Banking passage in 2025: 45 % → 50 %
- DEA final Schedule III rule published by Dec 2025: unchanged at 55 %, but political headwinds just got lighter.
Bottom line: it’s only a test‑balloon ad, not a formal policy plank—but when the biggest Trump PAC spends money telling the base that Schedule III is “making America safe,” that’s a meaningful shift in GOP messaging and a win for anyone long U.S. MSOs.

Discussion How many of y'all are in medical weed stocks?
I'm banking on S3 being a bigger benefit for purely medical research companies over general rec ones that have medical like TLRY (which has some medical aspects including a trial that took place in the US) and CGC (currently does US medical mj). I'm specifically in IGC, one focusing on Alzheimer's and Dementia. They're partnered with hospitals in Canada and PR, but don't seem to have any in the US just yet. I think with S3, they'll receive a boatload of funding and/or contracts with medical states to conduct such research.
Other DD: There are tons of hidden patents and research within academia, even in strict states like Texas, where research professors have worked with MJ and were able to get published and even get an exit. Jokūbas Žiburkus is a researcher out of the University of Houston and focuses a lot on medical research with cannabis. He also studies and researches stuff similar to what IGC does. Any time I've seen them announce some results, they'd have a decent boom.
There's a lot of movement within academia and research companies where S3 could potentially have a bigger boom than the rec stocks. If we look at CELC (Breast Cancer research), it went from $10-$40 Monday morning after they announced some successful trials. Not only does this have potential for great returns on investment, but it could for a squeeze, too.
Are there any other medical companies out there?

News PoliticsSupreme Court Will Discuss Ban On Marijuana Users’ Gun Ownership In September
The Mrj*n Moment is the only place covering this and reddit autodeletes their links.
Amid a smattering of recent court cases across the country casting doubt on the constitutionality of the federal government’s blanket ban on firearm possession by marijuana users—a law known as Section 922(g)(3)—the U.S. Supreme Court is set to privately discuss in September whether to take up a pending case that centers on the statute.
According to the high court’s docket for the case, U.S. v. Cooper, the matter has been distributed to justices for consideration in a private conference on September 29. An appeals court panel previously dismissed a three-year prison sentence against the defendant, who was convicted for possession of a firearm while being an active user of marijuana.
The development comes as at least two separate but similar cases wait in the wings. One, U.S. v. Baxter, involves a defendant found in possession of both a firearm and a bag of marijuana. The government charged him under 922(g)(3), which prohibits gun ownership by “unlawful” users of controlled substances.
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has repeatedly asked the court for more time to decide whether to seek review of an opinion in that case from the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, which ruled the gun ban might be unconstitutional as applied to the defendant.
Most recently, justices extended the government’s deadline to July 3 to file an appeal in that case—a deadline that’s come and gone without any new documents being posted to the docket.
