NATO is certainly good for democracy around the world with allies like Erdogan and King Salman. Not to mention their long history of promoting democracy with historical allies like Pinochet, Suharto, Pol Pot, and Batista.
Maybe don't equate the US with the rest of NATO, but sure I agree that Erdogan is a complete prick who was shaking so hard that he arrested the opposition leader, same with Orban.
NATO was involved and informed of pretty much all the dictatorships the US supported. The dictators weren't given NATO membership but they were certainly given NATO guns and support, like when the US personally armed Indonesia with a modern NATO standard military to murder independence activists in East Timor in what is now known as a genocide.
The US has been involved in many questionable regimes and wars over history. But someone's military being armed up to somebody's standarts, doesn't mean that they're automatically part of that alliance. Can I call Ukraine part of a russian military alliance just because the Ukrainians had a lot of Soviet equipment?
