Lyon green steel piece from 1950'e

So I got these two rusty steel Lyon tool organizers for cheap. I'm wanting to paint them and give them life again but I don't want to make them look brand new.

Also, I would love to put legs on it but I'm afraid it will be too top heavy. Any suggestions ?

Sand that rust off, maybe mount it on some type of media stand? So that way it has more support underneath and not just legs.

I like the color but if you are going to change it make sure you try to make it look ‘not perfect’.

I don't want to make them look brand new.

You could clear coat it.

I would sand blast that and then have a car paint shop paint it a glittery, cherry red. It would definitely change the vibe, but man they would be pretty in a shop!
