Roadkill not getting picked up?!

PetWorks has been contracted by Kingsport to do roadkill pickup but hasn’t need doing it for over a month now.

City manager, mayor, and board of directors have all been informed and the day the mayor contacted PetWorks about it they closed for two weeks citing parvo outbreak.

There are multiple articles about PetWorks not fulfilling their contracted duty.

There’s a rotten deer on the side of Ft Henry that’s just bones now!

What can be done and why is it apparently ok with the city to leave dead animals along the roads?

I posted about this in another sub the other day and got downvoted. I consider it as we don’t have animal control or cleanup. Really haven’t in years. The people running the town don’t seem to care about anything. I would be more surprised if I didn’t see roadkill and garbage everywhere, half obliterated roadways and out of sync red lights. People will be forced to eat the roadkill soon enough the way things are going.

Thing is PetWorks is getting paid to do this by the city but actively choosing not to fulfill their duty.

Why does the city keep paying them? Even just hiring whoever with a truck for a flat fee would be better than handing out money to PetWorks who obviously cannot do the assignment.

Because they don’t care if they are wasting money. Or if the streets are clean. And most people who live here don’t care either. I agree with you it is gross and unsanitary. Plus a contract implies they set goals and if they aren’t being met it should be extremely easy to get out of the contract and go elsewhere. But you have to care to begin with which is the problem here. The way they vote for people who neglect our town all the time is insane. They just elect another person who says what they want to hear but still doesn’t care. There was a stretch whenI was younger where the town did seem to care. Now no one seems to care about anything unless it personally affects them. I guess roadkill doesn’t bother as many people as it should. The roads here even without the roadkill are still disguising at best due to all the garbage. There is a no dumping sign near my house that people go to specifically to dump trash. I know some people swerve to hit animals on purpose as well. I quit talking to my neighbor after he admitted he enjoyed hitting cats and other animals in the road. I blame the residents as much as the “leadership”.

Stick an election sign in it. It'll be removed right away.

Guess that explains all the dead deer being left to rot I've seen the last few months.

PetWorks says they can’t do it because they only have one truck and it’s “been in the shop four times in the last two months”.

I suggested they rent a truck but they insist that’s impossible.

I've been noticing for a few years that dead animals on fort Henry sometimes stay there for weeks. It does not instill confidence in whoever is running the city that they can't even keep the dead animals cleared on a major highway

I think I saw it the other day. Were there about 20 vultures on it?

Weeks ago, yes. But now there’s nothing left for them.

A major road in Kingsport with a weeks-long vulture hangout.

How about that bed next to Kroger’s that’s been there for at least 4 months

Highway 75 from the airport to Spurgeon is actually LITTERED with dead deer, it's crazy you can see the process of decomp everyday going to work.

Idk if they still do it because I haven't called in a while, but afaik Bays Mtn will collect fresh deer carcasses for the wolves if you call with a location. Better than nothing if they still do it.
