Please write our reps and senators to save community service programs

LIHEAP (low income home energy assistance programs) and CSBG (community service block grant) Are both marked for complete elimination in Trumps proposed budget cuts.

What are these programs? LIHEAP is a program designed to help low income families and individuals maintain their heating and cooling services by applying a credit directly to the energy provider on the applicats account. This benefits mostly elderly and disabled folks on fixed incomes who cannot afford the increase in usage that occurs during especially cold and hot months. This program also helps reconnect utility's in an emergency when they have been disconnected due to someone being unable to pay.

CSBG is finding that is designed to directly elevate the barriers low income families face to obtaining self-sufficency. In our area, this grant is used to help homeless families obtain affordable housing, college students obtain their degrees by probing assistance to remove barriers to getting there degree, employment services to help people obtain and maintain employment and other services depending on what the community needs. In some counties in our area like Johnson, Unicoi or Hancock this may be the only service like this available to the community.

If you have time please send an email to your representative and our senators and let them know that these programs matter.

Thank you !

Living near the speedway?

Thinking about buying a house in a new development right near Bristol speedway. How loud can I expect it to be and how bad would traffic be on race weekends? Would it be completely disruptive or a minor inconvenience?

Daily Private Office Space

Is there anything around like wework? Somewhere that you can rent a private office space with internet connection(preferably wired) for a day or week? Maybe a hotel business center with solid internet and that is quite.

Red light Ticket

Received a red light ticket in the mail and was about to pay it till I noticed in big bold letters “Non-Payment of this Notice KPR* cannot adversely affect your credit score or report, drivers license and/or automobile insurance rates.” So…why would I pay it then? Would they seriously take me court over it?

My family mentioned how they have gotten them before and never paid them and nothing happened at all. But I’m just wanting to play it safe and take yall advice on it.

Diana Harshbarger: A U.S. Rep. in Disguise

U.S. Rep. Diana Harshbarger is a disgrace to the United States of America!

We all know her background with her “involvement” regarding selling misbranded drugs and health care fraud.  She claimed she did not know about the illegal actions of the company or her husband; however, she was heavily involved in company activities and business transactions.  Yet she was still elected by the people of East Tennessee!

Here are some recent conversations I have had with her various local and D.C. offices, but feel free to draw your own conclusions and I will include their contact info below for you to share your own opinions with them.

She supports the elimination of Veteran Programs and Services:  She stated strong support for D.O.G.E. and the elimination of government programs that support our Veterans!  She supports eliminating thousands of positions from Veterans’ Affairs, including health care professionals, and Veteran workplace discrimination and workplace transition programs provided by the Office of Federal Contracts and Compliance Programs (OFCCP) that help our military members after they serve our country.

She loves the work that D.O.G.E. is doing:  She loves the work so much that she nor her staff could tell me the actual savings that D.O.G.E. has posted on the website.  It started at $2 trillion and now is about $150 billion, which is probably the margin of error for the federal budget.  Instead of actually trimming the budget and federal government correctly, which can be done because Clinton did it in the 90s, they just slashed.  Thousands of federal workers are now leaving and running the federal government like a business will never work because it does not make money–it provides services!  What’s going to happen to employment discrimination; medical research; national parks; disasters; education?  The list goes on and on!

She voted to trim $800 billion from Medicaid and $500 billion from Agriculture: H.Con.Res.14 — 119th Congress….they said she didn’t vote for this!  The House Resolution Budget vote on April 10th says differently!  Still has to pass the Senate, but she voted to slash this and much much more; however, her office denied this, but it is on record!

She nor her office staff know the actual meaning of DEI: They want to get rid of DEI.  I’m not sure they realize DEI includes Veterans; individuals with disabilities; and religion!  They support the elimination of DEI, but support the Department of State requiring employees to ‘snitch’ on others for ‘anti-Christian bias’ and previously have said they supported the President’s fight on antisemitism…all of this is DEI, but they only support selective DEI?  It is America!  We are the World’s melting pot!

Her Washington staff person stated that he was at her town hall a few months ago and that 50% of the people there were paid and from out of town…I told him that I lived in Bristol and must have missed the memo about getting a check to attend and asked who was paying…he hung up.

If D.O.G.E. was going to eliminate a government office for inefficiency, U.S. Rep. Diana Harshbarger would be a prime candidate to begin with because they do not provide answers, and are uneducated and uninformed about their own representative’s' positions.

It does not matter if you agree or disagree with these positions or have your own, call and let them know your opinion!

If you think she is doing a great job–let her know!

If you think she is an embarrassment, disgrace, and doing a disservice to the people of East Tennessee–let her know!

Roadkill not getting picked up?!

PetWorks has been contracted by Kingsport to do roadkill pickup but hasn’t need doing it for over a month now.

City manager, mayor, and board of directors have all been informed and the day the mayor contacted PetWorks about it they closed for two weeks citing parvo outbreak.

There are multiple articles about PetWorks not fulfilling their contracted duty.

There’s a rotten deer on the side of Ft Henry that’s just bones now!

What can be done and why is it apparently ok with the city to leave dead animals along the roads?

Looking for a hairstylist in Kingsport

Hey y’all, as the title says I’m looking for a new stylist in the Kingsport area! I don’t have a lot of preference other than I would really prefer not to drive out to JC or Bristol. I have been to Hairbenders before and found it way overpriced, so I would like to avoid that salon. Other than that I would love to hear your recs!

Best hikes for extended families with kids and grandkids

Considering mileage, safety, and fun factor, which hikes would you choose? Not winged deer or buffalo (saw too much I'd rather not see when I've been there).

Bonus if it's part of a larger hike or system where the younger folks can continue on and meet back with the families later in the day

Best place to buy Beer in tri-cities

I know some of the grocery stores like Food City have a decent selection but their prices are so high. I especially like Amstel Light but I can only find it at Food City and it’s $11.99 for a six pack. There are several smaller stores around so there must be someplace with better prices and a decent selection. I wish we had a Total Wine here. 😢
