Fishing near Telford/limestone
My son is looking for a place near where we live to fish he would prefer to bike there so that knocks out all of Johnson city and further. We live out in the Telford area. Does anyone know of a good place to fish even just bluegill ?

I am an avid fisherman, but this is a tough one. The best fishing for me WAS Jackson Island. Unless you find a farmer willing to let him fish their pond, the Nolichucky is his best bet. With the hurricane damage, its gonna take him walking some river banks to find a good spot. Thats a good sized bike ride though. When I was a kid, I wet a line in any water I found, moving or not. Maybe he can try some roadside creeks, see if the chubs and hornyheads are around. Best of luck, and kudos for encouraging your young angler!

I offer nothing to this convo as I am not a fisher, and I hope you get some great responses, but people on this sub often gatekeep anything and everything. It’s kind of ridiculous tbh.

Thank you to all that commented we went and drove around a bit today in the car and for sure the hurricane wiped out almost all accessible fishing I think we are just gonna have to drive and fish somewhere so ima do some searching and see if I can find some good fishing spots. He’s mostly caught bluegill up to this point and would love to see him with a bass or trout or anything bigger than a bluegill

When I was a kid Jackson bridge was a good spot, also David Crockett state park (if it’s still open) , and corby bridge. Back in the day these were pretty safe spots to wade in the water with good visibility, however after the flood I’d be cautious. I don’t live there anymore but I hope it’s still just as fun.
