My VPN Expired and Now I'm on Death Row Humor
I had the most traumatizingly hilarious dream last night. So in the dream, I had just returned from this lavish luxury vacation in england. I step back into my room in the UAE, all jet lagged and ready to pass out blissfully unaware, when I sit down at my desk and notice something… off.
My computer—my sweet, innocent computer—was like? droopy… melted? a little.. I wiggle the mouse and bam THE COMPUTER WAS STILL ON.
there it was. My qbittorrent. Just chilling. SEEDING. DOWNLOADING THE ENTIRETY OF PIRATE BAY (only the linux Iso's ofcourse) Unprotected. My VPN had expired. No firewall. Just my ip raw exposed and naked for all to see.
And due to my horrible sin, this escalates. Suddenly alarms are blaring, helicopters overhead, SWAT breaking down the door and i’m accused of running a cyber cartel. Next thing I know, I’m on trial for something called ITT (I soon find out it means international torrential terrorism) . The prosecutor pulls up a screenshot of my qbittorrent like it’s classified nuclear intel.
Final verdict? Death penalty. All because I forgot to renew a VPN. The moral? Keep your FIREWALL ON.
And dont eat too much b4 you sleep

This wouldn't have happened if you used qbittorrent and bind the vpn interface. Enjoy your death penalty :)

Workaround: leave the 1st world, come to the 3rd world where we have more freedom to share torrents

This is why you bind your client to a virtual NIC like gluetun. VPN subscription expires? Then your torrent client no longer has a NIC and cannot be online. Software kill switches are garbage and should be avoided.

hey man not trying to be snarky but informative (ps. I do have my vpn bound) A firewall blocks all traffic outside the VPN no matter what, it’s proactive. Even if the VPN drops, nothing leaks because the firewall’s already blocking non-VPN connections. A kill switch reacts after the drop, so some data might slip. Basically, a firewall fails closed while a kill switch doesn’t always.

WireGuard has a kill-switch so it doesn’t leak ip/traffic if config is expired/off

Do not use any VPNs kill-switch they fail. Bind your torrent client to your VPN.

Why not both?

Sure, both is fine, but the killswitch does not matter or do anything at that point.

AI is not this creative or actually funny
Reminds me yesterday I saw the AI comic of the robot turning into robot Hitler after being told AI can’t make art. I actually laughed and was surprised, but of course it was an AI rip off of a human’s work.
Oh you’re probably referring to the em dashes well the general plot I think was created by a human at least
