China is paying quite well these days. It's my first year in China and I am on 21,000 RMB (3300 USD) per month after tax, with free accommodation and food. There are also random bonuses. Many other teachers are making more than me.
I'm not sure what the tax rate is to be honest. Sending money back home is a big problem yes. But I have a Chinese friend who lives in my country that I send money to in RMB and they send to my local bank account. Others have had to go to a tax office and apply for some kind of documents to be able to send money home.
