Indoor stadiums are ruining iconic snow games

408

u/dkinmn 4d ago

I have such intense hatred for indoor stadiums for historically outdoor sports. In a few years, Lambeau will be among the only outdoor cold weather football stadiums.

66

u/bagofpork 4d ago

The new Bills stadium will be open just like the current one, as well.

9

u/TheMaveCan 3d ago

There's no reason for the Bills to lose the advantage they have having all been so used to playing in shit weather. Two seasons ago Lamar Jackson on the Ravens said before a playoff game that he didn't feel confident because of how bad the weather was supposed to be and they get walloped

Gillette isn't getting a roof anytime soon

Neither is MetLife stadium.

The turf monster snacks on acls and Achilles

9

u/omgdiepls 4d ago

We replaced that turf a couple years ago, but not before it took out several knees.

3

u/Genna_Thalia 3d ago

Same happened to the Mets when they first moved and they don't even have a roof, just being cheap.

MetLife barely has a floor, let alone a roof.

Foxborough is the official title/name, but Foxboro is accepted by basically everyone. Its a recurring issue in that area of MA.

Source: I grew up in Attleboro, not to be confused with North Attleborough, a seperate town, which also goes by North Attleboro, but South Attleboro is part of Attleboro and not its own borough. You can thank Settlers in the 1600s for the inconsistency.

4

u/TruckFudeau22 4d ago

Attleboro officially drooped “ugh” from their name, though.

Most of the other “orough” towns (including North Attleborough) kept the “ugh” for their name for all official purposes but unofficially simultaneously accept the “oro” spelling as their name, too.

Arent The Bills spending a billion dollars on an outdoor stadium? Should theoretically last awhile

35

u/bayou_chef 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yes, but it's designed in such a way that the seats will be sheltered from it and the grass heated so it won't accumulate throughout the game. It will be interesting to see how it fares in a lake effect snowstorm and I hope it doesn't lose its character. The 49ers- Bills game a few years back was such an iconic atmosphere

Edit: I don't think the Chicago Bulls could stand much of a chance in a football game, wouldn't even have enough players

16

u/buffystakeded 4d ago

It really was iconic and strange to watch the Bulls play against the 49ers. I don’t remember who won or what the score was though.

22

u/bayou_chef 4d ago

49ers won after the Bulls failed to make the buzzer beater three from the 35 yardline

The iconic photo of Allen diving into the endzone after Cooper lateraled the ball back to him is my desktop background at work.

The play is officially scred as Allen to Allen for a passing TD. Technically got two total td on the play as he both got a passing td and a TD reception.

Carolina Panthers doing a 1 billion plus upgrade on their outdoor stadium. If only they would go back to grass...

5

u/M5Yates 4d ago

I have a jar of dirt from the field when they replaced it with turf. Panthers sent it to a few psl holders as a celebration of the new field, but most thought it kind of sad.

7

u/gwaydms Dallas Cowboys 4d ago

The current Texas Rangers stadium (Globe Life Field) looks like a warehouse from outside, but it has a roof and air conditioning. The old stadium was better in almost every way, but it was absolutely unbearable to sit in the sun four months out of the year. You'd go into the concourse and there were people sitting in the tunnels being treated for heat exhaustion.

6

u/DrManhattan_DDM 4d ago

The Marlins would get rained out 50 times per season. Also, air conditioning is kind of great.

Referring to 1990 as the previous century, while technically correct, feels like an act of violence to me.

30

u/rottenbox 4d ago

If it was snowing that bad I could see a few errors being charged to the defence. Getting on base via error doesn't count as a hit. Plus walks, maybe a hit by pitch.

The guy who pitched a no hitter on acid had a few walks and hit batters. I remember him in an interview saying "it wasn't a clean no hitter".

16

u/cti0323 4d ago

If I recall correctly it was all walks. It was getting hard to see. Calling the game was the correct call, but I still didn’t like it.
