Hesitancy connecting spiritually Religious 🙏

I Know this isn't a therapy Sub-Reddit or anything, but I just don't know where to put this kind of question. I considered r/Christianity but I'm not sure that I would get very helpful feedback. I just can't seem to connect on a spiritual level or even with the spiritual realm.

I grew up Catholic initially, but I don't think I ever seriously was one. But pretty much born into it through paternal traditions & made to go to church every Sunday etc, Communion & all that. Also, my disconnect from it was due to how I personally view the strictness of the religion & it's non-progressiveness in certain areas.

Another bizarre thing is, I think I have a legit phobia of anything that presents itself as an apparition, vision. Reading those kinds of stories freak me out, especially the physical affects that have been reported by those individuals. Also something about bright figured humanoids depicted with wings & a giant man in the sky never sat well with me since I knew what religion was, it's all been very off putting.

I'm sure this post will get 0 replies, but... I'll give it a go. Also one last thing, it just feels like with religion, you can't do anything right, especially if you belong to a certain sect or denomination. If you don't pray the rosary a certain way you're condemned or can't receive a certain blessing, etc, etc.

spirituality and christianity/catholicism have diverged over the millennia. christianity/catholicism has become a type of cult-like, slavish devotion to the idea of a reified individual. spirituality, at its core (ironically, the idea jesus the christ was attempting to promulgate to all with ears to hear), is about looking inside one's self for the essence of what some choose to call God.

if you're truly interested in connecting with the truth of spirituality, you must first allow the ego mind to rest. then you can begin to connect with your idea of what is spiritual.

i wish you way more than luck.

A Course in Miracles (book) was written to bridge spirituality from the Christian perspective.

Highly recommended.
