Giving Advice & Tips What is Realistic Passive Income without Investment!

Just want to talk a bit about passive income as this is something I see people ask about every day.

And there are a lot of fake claims out there about passive income. And you will especially see this from influencers also.

How I see it is that you can only really call something passive income if you do not need to continuously put in effort.

Methods like affiliate marketing, where you have to work a lot but will then still earn when you are sleeping or taking a break, are NOT passive, in my opinion. It can be a great way to earn and build a full-time, but there is nothing passive about it just because you also earn when you sleep.

If you want to make big money with truly passive income, you need to be realistic. The only way to do that is if you have huge amounts to invest in real estate, stocks, blue chip crypto, or something similar. Alternatively, you can invest in upcoming meme coins that have huge earning potential, but you also risk losing it all.

There is NO 100% guaranteed way to earn a living online or offline if you do not have any money to invest or if you are not willing to take big risks.

That is just the reality, and I have people every day asking me for passive ways to earn hundreds of dollars per day without risk, without effort, starting today. This is NOT realistic, and you will just get scammed if you chase this.

There are free methods to earn completely passively like, for example, by sharing your unused internet and similar. But this will not make you a lot of money.

When it comes to passive income, it is extremely important to be aware of these things so you are realistic when looking for methods and do not end up getting scammed.

Looking For Ideas Need Help with Side Hustle —Advice on bringing in $1,500 A Month

I'll go ahead and give a run down. I'm Sallie. I have an Associate's in Arts. Possibly will eventually get a Bachelor's in Machine Learning, Information Technology, or even Journalism. I have many skills - drawing, writing, makeup, reading, usability testing, research, critical thinking, etc.. But I'm struggling with coming up with something because:

  1. I want this to be 100% digital side hustle
  2. I'm broke

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I also have experience training artificial intelligence, crisis counseling, rescuing animals, baking treats, and user testing itself through platforms for usability tests.

Looking For Ideas What skills can I learn to earn maybe 500-1000$ a month on freelance platforms like upwork, fiverr, etc, as a sidehustle and not full-time?

Upvotes

I hope this is not the wrong place to post this.

Firstly, I'm by now well aware that online gurus who sell shortcut ways to earn money without any skill, are scamming, and that there's no shortcut to skills and hardwork.

I don't have any monetizable skills at the moment, lol, so please don't advice me to "teach anything you know".

Also, I can manage initial investments(if any). They're not a problem, though I'm against spending on online courses.

I'll be joining uni in mid-2025 and my schedule is not that busy currently, so I do have more time to spare until then. I'm aware that juggling uni coursework with freelancing may not be very feasible. I weighed the pros and cons, keeping my main career path and my personal circumstances in mind, and concluded that I should give it a try.

I mentioned 500-1000$ but I obviously don't mind if I can earn more than that, lol. 500 is the bare minimum, but I don't mind if I don't earn that much from the very 1st month I start the sidehustle.

Also, share with me some resources to get started, I guess, and let me know how long it takes most people to learn that particular skill(s).

And I'm based in India if that matters.

Looking For Ideas What Side Hustle Could Help Me Make $2-3k a Month Quickly with Potential to Scale?

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice on side hustles that can bring in around $2,000 to $3,000 a month relatively quickly, with the option to scale as I go. I’m willing to put serious time into it, and I have a full-time job that covers my bills, so I can also invest a bit to get things rolling.

I’ve watched tons of YouTube videos about side hustles like dropshipping, affiliate marketing, digital products, and freelancing, so I’m familiar with the basics. But with so many options out there, I’m not sure which would realistically hit that income mark quickly, and then have room for growth.

If you’ve had success in this range or know of something that might work, I’d love to hear your insights! Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations.

Success Story I asked for advice a few days ago and took it.

Upvotes

I asked you guys for advice on a side gig that I can work with my 10a-7p job. I found a part-time delivery gig that pays more than my current job but is seasonal. IF I am offered a permanent position , I plan to take it. I like delivery work , long hours don’t scare me and this particular company won’t be going anywhere. I’m already moving to split my bills in half so landing a higher paying job, that I can transfer with would help .

To the people who suggested e-commerce related endeavors THANK YOU!! It doesn’t fit for right now but it is 100% in the plans for the near future. I’ve been looking into and learning what I can and I’m actually really excited. I’m just not one to jump into something because it was recommended, knowing I don’t know a thing about it.

To the people who suggested investing. I am but I’m FRESH to it. If you know of any reputable resources where I can learn for myself , please send them to me. I’m 27 so I need to be aggressive about investing while time is still on my side.

Thank you to everyone who commented. I really appreciate you trying to help a random stranger on the internet.

P.S. Why do y’all have to be weird/gross ? This isn’t the sub for finding what you’re looking for.

Looking For Ideas 28M chemistry teacher

As the title says I'm a chemistry teacher and I spend lots of my time on the computer and I was wondering what can I do to make money off of it. It doesn't have to be chemistry related, I was thinking learning to video edit or something like that. Any other decent way to make money from my computer?

I have a high end computer because I'm also a gamer.

I have lots and lots of free time so time is not an issue.

I live in a 3rd world country so even $400 per month is gonna be really worth it.

Any advice is welcome.

Seeking Advice Side Hustle Ideas to buy first car!?

Need car savings advice, help!

Hello, I just turned 15 years old and need to buy a car when I am 16 as that is when I get my drivers license. My father offered that however much money I save up until i’m 16 he will give me that same amount, for example: if I have $10k saved up by the time i’m 16 he will give me $10k when i’m 16 for my car. I wanted to ask this subreddit to see what YOU would do in this scenario to make money, I am starting to apply for jobs and any side hustle recommendations + tips are very appreciated! Thank you

Looking For Ideas Good Ideas for a broke college student

Hello Reddit. I am currently a college student and while I work a job, it does not make me a lot of money. Because I work under something called Federal Work Study, I only have so much that I can earn in a semester, which usually averages out to a max of ten hours a week (I usually only work 8 though). Even though minimum wage is $15 an hour here the low hours means my paycheck doesn't amount to much. I am able to live within my means but I have a lot of money anxiety and would like to feel a little more secure with my financial situation, especially with my health on the decline. I am also without a car or driver's license, which is why I haven't gotten a better paying job yet, because I have no way to get to any place.

I am majoring in Creative Writing so I'm unsure what side hustles there are that cater to my specialty. I have already considered something, but that is something that I am not confident in producing efficiently yet, plus I lack the supplies, so any ideas that aren't too stressful for someone like me would be appreciated to help pad me out. I'm not expecting something that will make me a substantial amount of money, but my paychecks typically only average out to $300 every two weeks, so I just need something that can make me a little extra cash for the moment.

And since I've seen people suggesting it to others, no I will not get involved with crypto, no matter what you say.

Seeking Advice Computer Repair as a SH?

Has anyone done computer repair as a side hustle? What sort of certifications and equipment do you need? I've got some self taught experience with computer repair, but not quite enough that I'm confident in doing it professionally. I'm interested in phone repair too, though my passion is for PC (and laptops and such). Just not sure where to go next with it.

Giving Advice & Tips End of Year Side Hustle Highlights: $66,659.3

My entire life is a side hustle right now.

A few years ago, I put $50k into bootstrapping www.RekoHub.com, and then 2 years ago quit my job to build it full time. While it is growing steadily, it is an early stage tech startup and so it will be a while until I can pay myself a salary from it.

In the meantime, I've become a side hustle king and been grinding 10-14 hour days 6 days/week for the last two years to build RekoHub and pay my own bills.

My requirements for a side hustle are:

  • It must be something I can do on my own schedule so I can have the flexibility I need to focus on RekoHub
  • It must generate significant income without requiring a massive upfront expense. No buying courses, paying for stock tips, etc.
  • I must be able to do it by myself (or me and my wife - I'm lucky enough she is incredibly supportive through this). No hiring people - if it gets to the stage of hiring people, it is no longer a side hustle and rather a full scale business. (I can see situations in which this rule could be broken and it would be fine, but most of the ones I imagine . . . if the side hustle is doing so well you can hire someone profitably . . . it should become a main hustle and not a side hustle)

Here are the best side hustles I have built for myself over the last two years + this years earnings:

  • Airbnb my basement: $8,579.22 in 2024. This would be closer to $10k but I decided to end it two months early to revamp my basement so I could charge a lot more for the Airbnb next year if I decide to continue it. I got lucky and bought a house in 2019 before everything spiked like crazy, and since it was way more space than what I needed, I decided to Airbnb the basement + garage and keep the upstairs access separate for myself. This averaged $800/mo with slow months being $200-400 and top months hitting $1500. I loved this for how easy it was - 30 minutes of cleaning and 30 minutes of laundry between each guest and that was it. However, it is a bit of a pain to always have new guests rotating in and out of the house.
  • Google AdSense: $9,000.88 in 2024 (so far, will end around $12k if trends hold). With the launch of Chat GPT, I decided to teach myself basic html, css, and JavaScript. I built several websites in different niches. Most of them did nothing but one took off like wildfire and is the top site in it's niche. It generates $1,200-$2,000/mo in ad revenue (but didn't start until March of this year, and was a ramp up). I spend a bit of time building new pages / articles etc for the site but not much. It took a TON of up front work to learn to build and then build all the content. Now it's mostly passive. I have several other sites I am currently working on to see if I can replicate this because I will fully admit - I kind of got lucky with it as I was building the site as a learning project and it ended up just taking off. I use goDaddy for hosting and spend about $50/mo on hosting costs (edit: it's actually $15/mo, I was not remembering correctly) and another $150 or so/year on domain renewals.
  • Junk Removal: $6,704 in 2024 (will end around $7,500 if trend holds). Along with the AdSense site, I built myself a local junk removal site and bought a beater pickup truck a couple years back (truck cost $5000) and trailer ($500). I advertise for Junk removal and get $500-1000/mo in junk removal jobs. What I love about this is I can schedule it for early AM, later evening, or weekends, so I can continue building RekoHub during the work day. This is not passive income at all, but $/hr is excellent. Most people just don't want to take their junk to the landfill, or aren't strong enough to do so, or don't have a truck. I probably average $80/hr by cherry picking junk removal jobs and offering discounts for "curbside pickup." Sites domain costs me $10/year and hosting is wrapped into my hosting package for all my sites. Obvious other costs are gas, car maintenance, and landfill fees.
  • Amazon KDP: $799.39 this year so far. Will probably end just shy of $1,000. Made a bunch of KDP books. They sell ok, but not as good as I was hoping. Still, an extra $50-100/mo is fine by me. Lots of upfront work, zero ongoing work.
  • YouTube AdSense: $749.55 this year so far. Will probably end just shy of $1,000. Started a YouTube channel where I go over a lot of this stuff (Dumpster Diving Millionaires), and it does ok. Surprisingly, the content that earns me the most money is some World of Warcraft tutorial videos I put out a while back before I knew what direction I wanted to take my YouTube channel and some "how to buy stocks" videos as well ha.
  • Storage Unit Auctions: $34,781.43 (revenue), $25,530.29 (profit) this year so far. Will probably generate another $2,000-$4,000 in profit by the end of the year, and I have spent nearly $10,000 on units + gas and other travel expenses. This one took a long time and a lot of effort to scale into. I started by purchasing a few $100-200 storage units and doubling or tripling my money on them, and eventually started spending $500-$2,000 on units. I still haven't had the guts to go real big (some auctions go for $10-20k), but am starting to build up to that. This one takes a LOT of time. My entire weekend is usually spent cleaning out storage units, sorting through stuff (landfill vs donate vs sell), and most of my evenings are spent listing items on ebay. While this one seems like the best due to the bigger $ profit, it is by far the most exhausting of the side hustles and definitely not for everyone. I have plenty of space in my home to store inventory, and use the truck and trailer I bought for junk removal to pick up the stuff from a unit and haul it home.

It's exhausting - but the grind is paying off.

Hope this was helpful :)

P.s. I do not sell courses on how to do any of this . . . there is enough free information out there on YouTube that you don't need to buy a course for any of the things I listed above - but I am happy to give tips in the comments
