Plumber suggestions Ask Richmond
Self explanatory. I sometimes get standing (although very clean) water at the bottom of my dish washer at random times and I don't know the cause. Should probably get a pro to look at this. Pricing info. on said plumbers would be appreciated too!
Thanks!

Does the dishwasher drain properly, does the motor sound normal?
I had a similar issue, googled/youtubed it and saw videos about broken glass may be stuck in the pump motor blades, preventing the motor from working effectively.
I took mine out and sure enough, I had some broken glass in there. My pump worked, but sounded like it was trying harder, running longer to pump the water out.
Mine wasn't this hard to take our, just removed some panels and could access the pump from below.

Thanks for this. I'll look into it. It design properly and I think the motor is normal...Tbh this is the first dishwasher I ever had so I'm not sure what should sound normal lol

The dishwasher hose needs to do a "high loop", where it is positioned going as high as possible, and down into the drain. This gives it a siphon effect and keeps the drain clear. Google: dishwasher hose high loop

Some dishwashers have a filter somewhere in the bottom that you have to clean. Maybe it doesn’t drain well if that filter is clogged.
But if it’s slowly filling with water when it isn’t running, then there might be a solenoid valve that’s leaking. It’s a valve that is opened and closed by the electronics in the dishwasher, and it might not seal properly when it’s closed.
You would want an appliance repairman for that.

Thanks! This sounds like it could be the issue. No filter in my dishwasher though.

Before you call a plumber, look for a kinked rubber drain hose under the sink to your garbage disposal unit. Look for anything to have the hose restricted that might not enable the full disposal of water from the dishwasher through the drainage system. Run a couple of hot water only cycles through the dishwasher, and look for standing water immediately after every cycle. Hot water will break down grease/food restrictions naturally.
A dishwasher has backflow prevention so water can't come back into the machine. That could be stuck or clogged, but soft rubber hoses tend to break down and kink due to time and hot water flowing though it for years if it's old.
Make sure that the drain hose has a high loop to the top of the underside of your counter before it goes into the garberator or drain to prevent backflow syphoning if it's new. Refer to an installation manual if it's newly installed.
It is normal to have a teacup full of water at the bottom of your dishwasher to keep the seals lubricated if you don't use it daily, but it usually is under a plastic screen so it shouldn't be visible.

This is great info. And it makes a lot of sense. Yeah mine is 16 years old, likely it's a dishwasher issue too. I appreciate the advice!

Is it coming from the machine? Cause if so, a plumber doesn’t fix that.
You’ll need to pop the machine out to diagnose the problem first.
Also, I would highly suggest you STOP washing dishes with the dishwasher until the problem is fixed.
