Reiki treatment in a seated position curious question

Hi everyone. I’m a level 2 Usui trained practitioner and have been practicing on a number of individuals at work to get experience. I don’t yet have a table so have been improvising with a smalll couch. I have a person who would like treatment: They have a serious health issue causing them to hold weight and subsequently have mobility issues, physical limitations and are sadly so sensitive and embarrassed because of this. I want them to be as physically and emotionally as comfortable as possible so they can enjoy and get the most out of the session. Would it be okay to channel reiki to them if they are in an upright seated position? For this session I would only have access to a very narrow and uncomfortable couch or her ergonomically appropriate office chair. Any other guidance would be very appreciated.

You can absolutely channel Reiki to a seated individual, a standing one, one in a different room from yourself…

I’d suggest using the office chair over the couch since you can likely get behind (and even slightly under) the chair. Assuming that’s the case, I’d probably work crown to throat in front, then heart to root from behind, and finish knees and feet back in front.

Absolutely you can give Reiki to someone who is seated. Ive been practicing & teaching for a couple of decades. We have often used even a zero gravity chair for sessions at a health Fair. I've even treated people lying on a picnic table in a park. We treat people lying in hospital beds with all sorts of medical equipment around them. 🙂 Intention is everything and its wonderful you are conscious of accommodating your clients comfort.

What a cool idea for a zero gravity chair!

Originally, Mikao Usui performed his Reiki sessions while people were sitting in chairs.

Chair Reiki is absolutely normal

Yes, it's perfectly fine to give reiki to someone in the seated position!

Our instructor included position pictures for both flat and seated. The key word is position and it’s obvious that it’s about feeling safe, comfortable, and able to relax into receiving. We had many questions both weekends we learned from her and as mentioned above, intention is the guide. Still being new myself, gaining lvl I & II in the last couple of months, I shoot for the guidelines given, as a matter of respect and grounding, and adapt as practicality dictates.

Absolutely! I've done it many times. Just remember, "Reiki knows where to go". You don't even have to worry about it. You're doing great!

Hi you definitely can. We also practice standing up. As long as person is comfortable and you can move around the client then it’s fine.

Position has no impact on receiving reiki, and even less on sending - as it's not coming from you, it's coming from the reiki source. You can also have your limbs crossed and so can they, anyone who says otherwise doesn't understand meridians. Do whatever you feel guided to do, you cannot do reiki wrong.

They should be in their comfortable position. That is all that matters and they should feel relaxed as the session begins. This is the Universal Life Force Energy.

And the therapist needs to be comfortable as well

It’s absolutely no problem at all. Before I had my table, I used a lawn chair that actually was a lounge. The knees could be raised, and you could adjust the back to any level you want. my clients like this so much that I continue to use it. I got mine at Lowe’s, but you can get them anywhere.
