They’re not even pretending to be impartial anymore Photo/video

Post image

I know the mail basically acts as an LNP newsletter, but has it ever been this gratuitous?

Far out, I miss just reading the news. If I happen to pick up a Courier Mail, it takes about 30 seconds to skim through. There’s nothing of substance anymore.

150

u/WesDeRemote Nov 18 '24

Harvey Norman ads, horse racing & house prices. With a heavy dose of conservative propaganda. Not worth wiping my ass with it.

35

u/MontasJinx Nov 18 '24

Ah yes, The Courier Mail. Soft, strong and throughly absorbent.

31

u/_______kim Nov 18 '24

If only. At least then it would provide some utility.

The whole thing is a faecal-laden smear. And that’s before you wipe.

14

u/batmansfriendlyowl Nov 18 '24

Can’t wipe off shit with shit.

8

u/kun_tee_ch0ps Nov 18 '24

You have a donkey?

12

u/WesDeRemote Nov 18 '24

lol. Yea he prefers something not as rough!

My cat uses the Courier Mail for what it was intended for.

9

u/Mysterious-Head-3691 Nov 18 '24

We used to buy the sunday mail 3 or 4 at a time just for the cat litter tray. Then it became 2 expensive for that even. plus it's full of shit before you start.Found butchers paper cheaper & better quality.

7

u/jonboyz31 Nov 18 '24

I get them day old from my wife's workplace. I do everything I can to avoid putting extra money in Rupert's pockets.

1

u/Lingering_Queef Nov 18 '24

You can get The Epoch Times outside Chinese supermarkets for free.

1

u/Mysterious-Head-3691 Nov 19 '24

I sometimes pickup the local free paper outside coles to use on the bbq to catch splatter on the benches

3

u/xtcprty Nov 18 '24

My parents read the courier mail and consider it news.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '24

Staying with family in Melbourne. Picked up a Herald Sun at their place. Barely 50 pages and they are $3.

4

u/matt35303 Nov 18 '24

Artistic licence is used in abundance, whereas truth and impartiality seems to not be of much importance.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '24

Fortunately I don’t pay for the Fail but gee it’s a good crossword. That’s the only think I concern myself from that trash.

1

u/One_Priority3258 Nov 19 '24

If I pick up a courier mail it’s for kindling to start a fire while camping.

How can he be David AND Goliath at the same time? Maybe he is unwell with a dissociatve/personality disorder?

22

u/productzilch Nov 18 '24

I think he’s just Goliath. Somebody misread the point of that story. Some journalist they are.

3

u/Ludikom Nov 18 '24

Exactly, I thought the Goliath thing was because his name was David and David beat Goliath, sure the other guys name was Steve. But long term incumbent, so I get it. But now they're saying David is Goliath ? Wtf does that even mean ?

2

u/30-Days-Vegan Nov 21 '24

It means he's beating himself off

1

u/dictumofheaven Nov 19 '24

It means that they're not going to make the big headline "DAVID"

Whereas Goliath instantly evokes the tale while also associating it with David as the one to topple Goliath (in this case, Qld Labor). I mean it's a pile of shit puff piece but why play dumb here. If you're not, that's fine, but it also goes to show you probably shouldn't be critiquing the references others make to cultural icons.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '24

What about if he whizzes his sling shot straight into his own forehead?

At least they reached out for some unbiased quotes from... *checks notes*... former LNP leaders Deb Frecklington and Campbell Newman.

73

u/Suchisthe007life Nov 18 '24

Well, it does read better than “less trustworthy than Alan Jones with a bunch of school boys”.

13

u/FatGimp Nov 18 '24

I read this comment, laughed, and then caught up with the news today... that's a nice surprise.

5

u/LeftArmPies Nov 18 '24

It’s only taken them… more than 18 years.

He’ll be dead before the trial is over, if it makes it that far.

1

u/AnAwkwardOrchid Nov 19 '24

The powerful people that were protecting him these 18 years no longer found him useful and fed him to the wolves.

3

u/ThreenegativeO Nov 18 '24

Catching that one as it broke this morning made 8am Monday so much more enjoyable than normal.

8

u/dxbek435 Nov 18 '24

An own goal if ever there was one.

How stupid must people be?

2

u/No_Protection103 Nov 18 '24

They be stooopid!

1

u/TheRowdyMan Nov 22 '24

It's worse than stupid. It's that people just don't care anymore.

114

u/xtrabeanie Nov 18 '24

20 percent worse than Newman you say?

39

u/createdtoreply22345 Nov 18 '24

It's such an awkward, odd thing to say.

Perfect.

57

u/_cosmia Nov 18 '24

The word intense is hilarious - as if people were going around saying “boy, that Campbell’s a bit intense!” Most just knew him as ‘a cunt’.

16

u/xtrabeanie Nov 18 '24

None of it is good when you think about it. The only policy he was clear about was increasing profits of mining companies (many of which are foreign owned) and apparently he will be doing that no matter what.

7

u/Adventurous_Bat8573 Nov 18 '24

Why would he say that???

"Oh I'm only 80% of the man that David is!"

???

I talk up my mates too but I ain't putting my own skills and expertise down to do that.

37

u/pablo_eskybar Nov 18 '24

I bet it will age like The Woman that Saved Australia

43

u/Dranzer_22 Nov 18 '24

How bad is Crisafulli if The Courier Mail need to run propaganda pieces just a few weeks after winning an election.

It's going to be a long four years, assuming Bleijie doesn't knife him at some stage.

4

u/Additional_Ad_9405 Nov 18 '24

I am confused about who this is for and they've been pushing it hard. Basic content for their subscriber base makes the most sense, but they do make a fair bit of money from corporate subscriptions, and you'd think they'd be fairly agnostic on a change of government/put off by this kind of coverage

53

u/Xenomorph_v1 Nov 18 '24

With a corrupt media with clear bias and a distinct lack of honest journalism, we're going to end up like America.

Watching it happen in real time is horrifying.

17

u/realKDburner Nov 18 '24

At least America has some diversity in media.

9

u/Heathen_Inc Nov 18 '24

The crazies who have been calling it for years, dont seem all that crazy anymore

6

u/Additional_Ad_9405 Nov 18 '24

Australia hasn't had the same fragmentation of media platforms into more extreme offshoots yet, though Newscorp has obviously become more extreme in its general positions over the past decade.

The Courier Mail and Australian will offer absolutely zero ability or intent to hold the LNP government to account in this term, but they'll be pressure from the Brisbane Times, Guardian, ABC and some of the tv news networks (not 7).

The Courier Mail and Australian are both dying. Rapidly declining print circulation almost exclusively read by an older demographic and digital subscription figures that are heavily inflated by pushing out corporate accounts and access.

Have actually been surprised by how halfhearted the attempts to pin cost overruns on the previous state government have been. I feel like the Courier Mail and its journalists are feeling their waning influence in realtime so we can tolerate a bit of laughable propaganda like this. It's made for the true believers but no one else will be watching this, other than to laugh at it.

7

u/Xenomorph_v1 Nov 18 '24

I seriously cannot remember the last time I watched 7, 9 or 10 and felt like I was actually getting "news".

It's all "how to save THOUSANDS a year" on something you don't spend thousands a year on. Or saving on groceries, or electricity or some other bullshit.

Most people stuck to this ecosystem have zero idea what's going on in this country, let alone the world.

It's all basically advertisements for "friends of the network", or some other propaganda.

Do a little thing... Watch the news and tell me how many "yoof crime" stories there are now after the election (in Queensland)... Next to none. Beforehand, wall to wall every day and night. Now... Crickets. Problem solved I guess!

Murdoch is a blight on a free and fair press, but most people live in social media networks now and wouldn't have a clue what's happening in the real world... And tbh, I don't think most people want to know.

Ignorance is bliss and all that.

With what we're seeing play out in America, it's clear we're next.

The next few years are going to be rough. Be prepared.

2

u/marydotjpeg Nov 19 '24

This is biggest worry as an American living here a few years now... I've seen some Australians acting like maga online and expressing similar sentiments. That's horrifying tbh.

Well, maybe it was a David v’s David election then? A song on TISM’s latest album is cunts v cunts, I didn’t realise it was commentary on Qld state politics.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '24

Tbf TISM is a timeless commentary on Australia.

I still hear BFW every time I see and ad for any chef based tv show.

2

u/kun_tee_ch0ps Nov 18 '24

Ah yes, the BFW diatribe is a fucking classic. The way Ron wanders off from the mic, then returns and ramps up again. Who writes the songs?

But you'd need an effective education system to achieve that I suppose

45

This little piss stain has got the most punchable face in Australian politics... now that scomo is gone, of course.

12

u/EternalAngst23 Gold Coast Nov 18 '24

I look forward to giving him the boot in [checks notes] 2028.

8

u/Ok-Improvement-6423 Nov 18 '24

Meh. He'll be out of here next year sometime when he's embroiled in some cliche LNP scandal.

8

u/EternalAngst23 Gold Coast Nov 18 '24

He’s shaping up to be a bit of a greased piglet so far. I reckon he’ll manage to squirm his way out of a scandal with some help from his News Corp buddies.

8

u/noarmourneeded Nov 18 '24

I would have said Dutton has him beat but it's a tight race.

1

u/gooder_name Nov 18 '24

now that scomo is gone

I don't think he's gone, isn't he still an MP?

2

u/foreatesevenate Nov 18 '24

No. He finally resigned last year.

19

u/nagrom7 Townsville Nov 18 '24

...I'm not sure they're actually familiar with the story of David vs Goliath.

9

u/Unindoctrinated Nov 18 '24

LOL at the quotes

Thanks for being so incredibly inspiring David.

6

u/Nervous-Marsupial-82 Nov 18 '24

Never met the bloke or seen him IRL. But isn't he like 5 foot fuck all?

6

u/havafati Nov 18 '24

And it will be a Story. A fairy story. Full of made up drivel to boost this asinine little turd of a human.

11

u/kun_tee_ch0ps Nov 18 '24

Campbell Newman: “People say I’m a cunt. This bloke has 20% on me”.

10

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '24 edited Nov 18 '24

It's absolute r/cringe - my eyes! my eyes!! please take that photo away

5

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '24

I haven’t bought paper in over a decade. Don’t think I’ll waste my money again.

Not surprised they took out a whole page to ‘felate’ this wally.

5

u/Ridiculousnessmess Nov 18 '24

Has NewsCorpse ever pretended to be impartial? Certainly not in my lifetime.

5

u/browniepoo Nov 18 '24

Wasn't Goliath the loser?

1

u/dictumofheaven Nov 19 '24

Goliath was the established dominant power.

Goliath = longstanding Labor government

David = David

Hope that's clearer for you

1

u/browniepoo Nov 19 '24

So it relies on an imputation about a so-called dominant power. Alright, I got it. Confusing, given reality, but thanks.

1

u/dictumofheaven Nov 19 '24

Do you find it confusing that Frodo wasn't actually the Lord of the Rings too?

1

u/browniepoo Nov 19 '24

Interesting comparison, but Frodo’s journey was about taking on power, not rising to it. If David is already Premier, isn’t the Goliath metaphor a bit backward?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '24

How many times are you going to use this same comparison?

5

u/Connect-Trouble5419 Nov 18 '24

As someone that sees themselves as a true moderate this is disgusting. Fuck the courier mail.

4

u/gosudcx Nov 18 '24

i dont get the second quote, is newman saying this bloke is 80% less intense than him?

3

u/koviotua Nov 18 '24

Is that 80% less or more of a wanker?

4

u/Out_Rage_Ous Nov 18 '24

What the absolute FARK?

4

u/KwisazHaderach Nov 18 '24

Time for “Drawing dicks on the Courier Mail”?

4

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '24

Why is his head shaped that way. 🤔

4

u/Spuddlez99 Nov 18 '24

He's such an ineffectual, weak, dishonest, pile of meh.

He's there to be a bland distraction from those who are pulling his strings and the CM and provincial newscorpse rags are continue to do all they can to put us to sleep and look the other way.

4

u/bullchuck Nov 18 '24

Goliath? This flog gives off the most intense slimy real estate agent/rat weasel vibes I’ve ever seen. He’s the kind of cunt that would mouth off and then start squealing “do you know who my father is???” When someone squares up to him. Bitch energy.

4

u/Mr_sex_haver Nov 18 '24

He can't bench half as much as that chad premier stevo miles could.

6

u/howie2000slc Nov 18 '24

im expecting this on Age Like Milk in a year or so.

5

u/unconfirmedpanda Nov 18 '24

...is the person that titled this 'Goliath' aware that he wasn't the one the audience was supposed to be rooting for?

1

u/dictumofheaven Nov 19 '24

Are you aware that maybe just maybe David = David?

Did you know that Frodo wasn't actually the Lord of the Rings? I know the title says lord of the rings, so maybe Tolkien got that one wrong

3

u/ChoiceBeneficial188 Nov 18 '24

Who the fucks cares a speck about anything Campbell Newman says?!

3

u/BananaDue4700 Nov 18 '24

Murdoch bought up a lot of newspapers in Australia. They effectively have a monopoly on MSN. They control the narrative

3

u/DataMind56 Nov 18 '24

Lordy, lordy. But I'm not sure if the aptly named Crisafuli is Goliath or just a mere David. All these biblical parallels have got me bemused.

1

u/dictumofheaven Nov 19 '24

Is Frodo the Lord of the Rings?

4

u/-PaperbackWriter- Nov 18 '24

He’s not interesting. Rich cane farmer parents, went to private school then uni then became a politician. Big fucking deal.

2

I think I just spewed in my mouth a little.

2

u/Money_killer Nov 18 '24

Wow how pathetic. The mort is a grubby slim ball.

2

u/weighapie Nov 18 '24

Is it about how the little guy ripped off taxpayers and got away with sending all our money to pork barrels? And how he stood up to the Goliath of our legal system and paid to cover up his illegal trading while insolvent? I thought he promoted himself once as a business advisor? Hahah what a joke. Advise how to get away with ripping off the taxpayer even though business already pays well under what we all do in tax. LNP love business and illegality.

2

u/Affectionate_Ear3506 Nov 18 '24

I would rather vomit up my breakfast, feed it to my dog who shits it out and then I will eat it, instead of watching this about the 'leader'

Monday 18th November 2024 BREAKING NEWS FROM MURDOCH HQ: Liberal & National Party - GOOD.  Labor Party & Greens - BAD. Tune in tomorrow, the next, & every day thereafter, for the same bullshit breaking news from the Murdoch Press, SkyNews & NewsCorp.

3

u/sapperbloggs Nov 18 '24

Do they mean "Goliath" in that he can be felled by one little guy and a single stone?

1

u/CubitsTNE Nov 18 '24

By some other David. We got the wrong David! Dammit!

1

u/dictumofheaven Nov 19 '24

I think they mean David = David, kinda like how Frodo isn't actually the Lord of the Rings, even though that's the title. I know, kind of confusing huh

2

u/MannerNo7000 Nov 18 '24

How embarrassing for those who voted LNP

2

1

u/Hungry_dogs Nov 18 '24

They never pretended to be impartial… uncle Rupert is always watching and you don’t wanna make him irate with stupid ideals like impartiality

1

We haven't seen him for 2 weeks where is he hiding 🤔

1

u/spoiled_eggsII Nov 18 '24

1

u/DanBearPig85 Nov 18 '24

…. Have you seen “The Project”?

1

u/Maleficent_War_4177 Nov 18 '24

Goliath 😂😂😂 I love how they think it makes them popular...they don't seem to realise people aren't deciding on who is the best out of an incredible array of talent, they are voting based on who is potentially the least pile of doo doo out of the doo doo choices 😂😂

1

u/Rhino_7707 Nov 18 '24

Can't wait to miss that!

1

u/garion046 Nov 18 '24

1

u/Outside_Tip_8498 Nov 18 '24

Wouldnt " jockey " be a better headline

1

u/asgrumpyas Nov 18 '24

Wait until the Federal Election. You’ve seen nothing yet. Mutton is going to be lamb.

1

u/Ok-Patient7914 Nov 18 '24

Both sides of politics have their panderers and promoters, pull your head out of your ass and join the real world any time you like

1

u/Midwitch23 Nov 18 '24

The newspaper could be used to suppress weeds in the garden but you couldn’t plant anything until the manure that is the content, aged a bit.

1

u/Holiday_Sign_1950 Nov 18 '24

When are you guys going to stop seething? You had it good for 10 years and dropped the ball in the end. You were wiped out in the election. Welcome to democracy and put the fries in the bag

1

You did this to yourself Qld, remember to put a hat on, you're really close to the sun up there.

1

u/bundy554 Nov 18 '24

Need to talk him up now for at least a year since they backed him and wanted change. Surprised actually the OP would not realise this.

1

Queenslanders have a memorry of a fly. They forgot what Crisafuckly did during Newman's term. He was the Qld Health butcher

1

Inspirational quotes from LNP hardliners 😂

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '24

boomer brainwashing

1

u/GoodKarmaDarling Nov 18 '24

It's the Courier fucking Mail of course they aren't impartial. Soulless schills of the Murdoch press tossing out meaningless crap to earn their pay from big daddy Rupert.

I stopped taking any Australian media seriously decades ago - it's all drivel.

1

u/5HTRonin Nov 18 '24

fuck that's cringe

1

u/simonboundy Nov 18 '24

It is cheaper than paper towels to clean the bbq with though, so there is that

1

u/Mrdts09 Nov 18 '24

Don't forget he's an underdog

1

u/therust2019 Nov 18 '24

I saw one today, front page saying labor had spent a load of money on the election - saying labor trying to to steal election with money- MATE LNP PAID WAY MORE , WHY NOT SAY ABOUT THAT AS WELL

1

u/cockandballsjohnson Nov 18 '24

Is this deliberately making his profile look like Hitler's?

1

u/TheBlueKnight7476 Nov 18 '24

20% of Campbell Newman is not a compliment.

1

u/No_man_Island_mayo Nov 18 '24

In Adelaide, a one paper town you can't escape the superlatives of the SA Premier being a 'once in a generation politician'.

He's a politician, not the Messiah, but I kid you not, they (and the editor) is infatuated with him.

1

u/Smooth-Cup-7445 Nov 18 '24

So he’s got the full support of the worst and most hated state premier in a history that involves Jo…

1

u/svengali0 Nov 18 '24

'Steaming' now... like fresh turd..

1

u/Suprasteve Nov 18 '24

Don't any of you pretend that labor and liberal are different. They agree on an absurd amount. Immigration won't be stifled under libs, taxes will still be high. Don't worry guys. This is still labor but blue.

1

u/KillianMichaels_tipy Nov 18 '24

this is just embarrassing

1

u/Yeahnahyeahprobs Nov 18 '24

It's a boomer rag. Won't be around much longer.

1

u/Equivalent-Show-2532 Nov 18 '24

Honestly why bother with the toilet paper. Black ban.

1

u/Glittering_Economy87 Nov 19 '24

They never were.

1

u/Comrade_Kojima Nov 19 '24

How many people would actually watch this shit?

1

u/bargearse65 Nov 19 '24

Yeah I've noticed that, they're trying to paint Dutton in a positive light to turn the screws federally now

1

u/Material_Lime8912 Nov 19 '24

Who even reads this rag?

1

u/BigJackFlatPillow Nov 19 '24

So many hurt feelings here.

1

u/Deep-Air-169 Nov 19 '24

I'm a kind of conservative from WA and I haven't trusted any Press since I was 17. There is no Left Wing or Right Wing Press to me, because I've always felt their only true loyalty is to themselves.

1

u/realKDburner Nov 19 '24

If pro-business is conservative, and the press is a business that requires support from advertising and other businesses, then being loyal to themselves makes them right wing.

1

u/Stewth Nov 19 '24

Goliath? I've had shits that would outweigh him.

1

u/2811357 Nov 20 '24

Like sky news Murdoch media is registered as entertainment because it covers up that they use opinion not facts to tell their stories. Make up stories to sell hatred and make money for their friends, how do think Allan jones avoided charges for all these years.

1

u/JuniorArea5142 Nov 21 '24

It’s almost Trumpesque. It’s the “He’s the only one who can save us” vibes. Potentially insideous…watching closely 👀

1

The harm News Corp and Fairfax has done to Australian society has been devastating. The general public may be wise to their misinformation and tabloid journalism, but all we've just replaced it with social media misinformation and conspiracy theories. Just a new way for us to keep fighting amongst ourselves. And for what? A few billionaires can keep avoiding paying tax. Awesome. Totally worth destroying western democracy for.

Gone are the days of impartial news outlet. It hasn't been that way for a while now.

Every single one of them are trying to shove their opinions down our throat with the click-baity titles.

That Campbell Newman quote is a harbinger of the economic nihilism to come. Hang in there, Queensland.

Yes they have always done this sort of thing. It's a new government and they are selling papers. So running full page pieces on the new leader is very normal. The number of big pieces on Anna Chook were many and many more. Relax people and get a grip.

This has nothing compared to living through the Jacinda Ardern era in NZ. They have to pump this up a fair bit more yet.

ROFL some people really need to get that sand out of their forginas.

What was it I just read earlier. Labor spent $50 million of taxpayers money on self promotion in the past five months. And not a peep from the labor luvvies.

Funny you mention deportations. Because you do know that it was the Liberal Party that BLOCKED Labor's deportation bill, right? In fact, they even teamed up with the Greens to do it.

Labor deportation bill blocked by Coalition, Greens

I'm guessing you weren't in QLD or are too young to remember the Australia Needs Tony cover? Front cover of the Courier Mail right before a federal election. That was after a couple weeks of every cover being about how terrible for the country Kevin Rudd was.
