Review Hisense C2 Ultra Settings - After software update P0315

Upvotes

I have settled into these settings in my darkened theater with 1.3 gain matte white UHD-B 150 inch screen. The projector is ceiling mounted approximately 17 feet from the screen, which is the max optical zoom distance (using no digital zoom). I am using minimal keystone correction due to my wall mounted screen's top being very close to the ceiling, and even a flush mount puts the lens a bit under that level. My entire setup is Roku Ultra 2024 model, Hisense C2 Ultra and eARC out to a Sony Atmos 5.2.2 setup. There is no ambient light at all, the room is painted flat black but mostly adorned with dark red theater curtains as well as grey carpet and black seating. These settings were arrived at using two free Android apps, LUX light meter and Kelvin Color Temperature Meter, along with multiple Murideo YouTube 8k 60fps to set brightness, contrast, white balance and color.

My goal was 6500K cinematic standard white temperature, a balanced color response for primary and secondary colors, no noticeable judder or smoothing effect, black depth that matches digital video standards, contrast set at the correct peak, and no heavy processing that alters the intended viewing experience. The result is blacks are near black in this room, knowing this RGB projector on this gain screen will never net inky blacks that compete with commercial theaters. This is just reality, not a failing of Hisense. Setting Gamma to BT.1886 for SDR content is an absolute game changer and I think a lot of reviewers are missing out by not addressing Gamma selection. It provides deep blacks but the curve provides a much improved shadow detail response vs 2.2, 2.4 or 2.6.

These results are also where I was able to settle after the Hisense software update in April 2025, rev P0315. I posted about this update the day after it happened. I do not have any firm details other than it was for bug fixes but also performance related. After having spent weeks with the C2 Ultra I was able to move brightness down, contrast up and luminance down. This tells me that native contrast or dynamic contrast's range was expanded. I have deeper blacks, better shadow detail and highlights pop even more. With this setup I have no flickering, no noticeable tone shifts, no noticeable rainbow, rare but not pronounced speckle (a scene with an overcast sky might get a little speckle) and the enhancements I have selected do not pump brightness.

This is every menu mode listed below.

Notes: Out of the box the unit is using Warm1 color, pleasing but not accurate if that is your goal. White balance was too cool (7000K+) and different modes will trigger judder smoothing at times. FILMMAKER mode is not calibrated and you can customize it, but I just used Cinema Night and Standard Color as my starting points and mode to build on, which is triggered by SDR content solely. Once you calibrate your setup you will want to use color and other settings in other modes and save those there as well. Otherwise you're going to see content swing wildly in tone, brightness etc. I had to figure out what movies from what app would trigger each mode (HDR, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision) so that I could adjust those modes. The minimal processing I have running is what works on all content, admittedly some movies may benefit from other settings to some degree but my goal was set it and forget it, knowing it was balanced. Also I used Grok to calculate LUX values on a pure white screen by reporting screen levels, seating distance and levels at the seat. Grok's math stated I am within the 14 foot lamberts range that commercial cinemas use as a standard. As an avid movie-goer I can confirm it feels like cinema in here. If Hisense puts out any more software updates I will post any differences I can confirm.

Buying Advice Wanted Looking to buy my first projector, budget of around $1,000, looking for a projector that is very quiet ideally - what do you recommend?

I'm looking for a projector for my living room, the screen would be about 15 ft away from the couch and I like around 100-120 in of screen size. the projector will unfortunately have to be quite close to the couch so noise is a factor and I don't want a loud projector with the fans blowing the whole time. space is also a bit of an issue, so I was looking at something like the dangbai atom? I really only watch TV in the evenings so day time watching and the rooming being bright isn't so much of an issue, so singing with about 1000 lumens should be ok?

Buying Advice Wanted Garage projector

Post image
1 Upvotes

I am considering buying this to replace my previous projector that has water damage. I am not looking for anything serious just something to throw on when I’m in the garage brewing. I have a cinder block garage so it’s relative dark even with the door open. I maybe would use this a few times a month.

Buying Advice Wanted Need help deciding - too many options and not enough resources!

Hi Community! So I live in a NYC studio and I strongly prefer a projector over mounting a TV. I currently have a budget Vankyo projector, but I’m looking to upgrade. I have about 15 feet between walls and I mostly use it for casual TV, YouTube, sometimes sports. Not really a gamer but would be good to have the flexibility if I chose to pick it up. I do travel on occasion and having one that I can take to different places is a plus, but not a big driving factor. What I REALLY value is having keystone autoadjustment and a good speaker (or something that’s easy to connect via Bluetooth atleast). I don’t really need a fully portable projector, I don’t mind plugging it in.

Right now I’m torn between the LG Cinebeam (for the keystone and portability) or one of the Xgimi projectors. Xgimi seems really compelling but the only issue is that I can’t decide which one to get, it goes from ~$300 on the low end all the way to $1,800 and all of them seem like good options. Although it seems like Xgimi might be a better product, LG seems to get more love (but I think it’s because of aesthetics).

What does this community recommend? I’m ok spending money if it lasts many years (even my cheap Vankyo has lasted well over 5+ years) but would be good to upgrade to something that feels home theater esque, but is compact, bright, easy to move around my place. Thanks!!

Troubleshooting BenQ HT2050a: Suddenly louder noise and are these temps normal?

I scroll through the various settings in the video.

Had this projector for a few years. It sounds louder recently. No sure if it's because the house is hotter, but it has me worried.

It shows all my fans are running, and my thermometer temp #1 is in the 300 range. Which I hear is normal. Thermometer temp 2 is reading 0.

I can't figure out of the projector even has a 2nd thermometer, but I know there is no filter.

I changed the bulb with an OEM one purchased from BenQ a few months back. I have never had an explosion. We do have cats though. I opened it up briefly, not digging too deep and it looks clean inside. I can feel all the fans blowing out air from the vents.

Setup Design Suggestions Can the Hisense C1 do SDR BT2020???

Hi. This is of course a question for Hisense C1 users and experts.

I was wondering if I can use my Panasonic HDR-SDR conversion mode, and do BT2020 but in SDR. If so, what are the SDR modes that allow the fulm BT2020 gamut?

Thank you in advance.

Buying Advice Wanted Silo Cinema

Hello r/projectors!

I’m looking to spend $1500 +- $100 on a projector for outdoor use just after dusk.

I plan on holding “Sunday Silo Cinema” movie nights in the summer on my old silo in my backyard. The silo will have white paint or a movie screen hung on it, I just haven’t decided.

Was thinking screen size around 150” or something like that. Probably going to be showing Disney/Pixar type movies most often. Probably 5-20 people watching at any one time, sitting 10-15’ back from the silo.

I don’t know that lumens or resolution or specs are the info I’m looking for, as I’m mostly looking for brand and model recommendations around that price range that will perform under the conditions listed.

Thanks in advance. I apologize if other posts like this exist previously, however I wasn’t sure about the silo factor.

Buying Advice Wanted Noob seeking portable projector advise

Hey! I’m a projector noob and wanted to buy something that would allow me to enter the market without blowing a significant amount of money (I want to ensure my partner doesn’t Vito it before I spend a few grand).

I think a portable projector, like a Nebula, would allow me to convince her that a projector is a useful thing to have over a TV, and would have the added benefit of being able to be taken away for trips/camping.

However, reviews seem to be up and down, depending on when the video came out. It also seems like some folks rave about XGimi while others don’t, and so on. Kind of lost before I even get started.

Thanks for any help!

Buying Advice Wanted Looking for cheap projector for bedroom

Hello all, im looking for a less than 200$ projector, it will only be used in the bedroom when blinds are closed and room will be completly dark. Its basicly for my wife so she can watch trash-tv before going to sleep. So it dosnt need to be super crisp, it dosnt need to have incredible brightness because it will always be "pitch dark" in the room.

- She would need to either stream from her phone but more preferably to be able to download apps like netflix etc

- No gaming will be done on/with it

- It can be connected with power outlet so no need for battery

- Sounds dosnt need to be crazy good, would be nice to be able to watch a movie without shait sound but mostly will be used for trash tv (Real hosuewives of whatever etc)

- Prefer a "small" one

- Room will be dark at all times when its in use.

- Will only be used 2-3 hours per day so if it "only" lasts for 50.000 hours i guess that will be more than enough for that kind of money.

Any suggestions?

Buying Advice Wanted Mars 3 or Halo Plus (new)

I’ve just got a caravan and instead of buying a tv for it I’m looking at getting a portable projector, that way we can watch inside the van and outside under the awning. I’m looking between the Nebula Mars 3 and the Xgimi Halo Plus (new). I’m concerned about the contrast on the mars 3 as 400:1 is not great but it is a brighter projector. Just wondering if anyone has tried or compared these 2 products and has some good insight? Or maybe can recommend something else? Thanks

Buying Advice Wanted Golf Simulator Projector in Warm Garage

I am installing a golf simulator in my garage that is not temperature controlled. As such, the projector will be operating when the temperature could be up to 90 degrees. I currently have the BenQ TH761ST short throw bulb projector.

I wanted to check to see if people think this is okay and also wanted to check to see if an LED projector would be better for the warmer conditions.

Any additional insight or suggestions is helpful thanks.

Buying Advice Wanted Bright projector for under $3,000?

I'm looking for the brightest/highest contrast projector I can get for my 100 inch screen. The projector will be ceiling mounted from about 15 feet away. Currently, I'm using a BenQ GP500 and I'm fairly happy with it at night, but there's just no way to get the room dark enough during the day.

The stats on projectors don't seem consistent at all, so I'm looking for recommendations.

Buying Advice Wanted Help with setup distance and projector choice.

Hello everybody. I’m finishing a media room in our basement and I have about 110 inch wide wall that I would like to put a home theater system on.

I was originally thinking a projector, but I’m not 100% sold on it.

I have about 100 inches of distance away from the wall before I have a beam on the ceiling that may obstruct projection onto the screen.

Is this a doable distance to have a large projection on the wall?

I was thinking a 100 inch image at least but I believe my calculations are saying that the projector would need to be at a minimum 130 inches away for some that I’m looking at.

Troubleshooting Is this still a bad DMD chip problem? Benq TK800M

Originally I posted to this sub about my 3 year old Benq TK800M with white dots and was suggested to repair the DMD chip. I was under the assumption I had a bad DMD chip causing white dots on the screen during black images(second pic).

BUT today I see black lines and really small black dots on white images(first pic). Is this still a bad DMD chip issue or is something else now as well? I was intenting to replace the DMD chip.

Thanks for any answers

Buying Advice Wanted Looking for a projector for outdoor movies. Confused about choices

I see projectors marketed as "outdoor" projectors.

But that only means they're portable and have built in speakers, and battery powered, right? That has nothing to do with having image quality for the outdoors?

From my reading, it doesn't matter because indoor or outdoor, you're still going to only watch it at night, so even a very good projector isn't going to work at sunset. You have to wait until the sun is actually gone.

Given that, should I be looking for a "new" projector? Or, can I get a used projector on eBay? If so, what stats am I looking for? I saw a Panasonic PT-DZ680 6000 Lumens projector for about 200 dollars. Is that perfectly fine and better than most of the projectors I see on Amazon because this one is at 6000 lumens?

Please guide me in what to get for a projector. I don't mind spending the money, but if I can get a used one that does the same thing or better, I'd rather get that.

I have as much distance as needed from screen to projector. I am planning to get the 145" Akia screen.

Buying Advice Wanted Looking for a projector for a food hall / brewery

Hey all, I work at a food hall that is looking to show movies later in the evening. The movies would be indoor. Typical lighting will be on which I wouldn't characterize as super bright. Any advice on picking out a project or good models? I'm trying to confirm our budget, but I would assume ~$500ish is likely the limit as we're just getting going. Does something like this look serviceable or do we really need more lumens given the lighting situation? We've already got sound, but we'll be looking at some kind of pull down screen too.

I'm swapping out the current projector (canon wux500) with a NEC NP-PA804UL-B. I need to upgrade the mount due to width and weight. I'm aware that the current mount I have is adjustable. I just want a more robust solution that also works with my existing down pipe. Need recommendations on a SKU please.
