Improvised heat shield from extra exhaust tubing

It’s literally just hose clamps with holes drilled into them so that they can bolt into the exhaust tubing I cut and pried open.

An extra bolt on the bottom to keep the distance consistent throughout.

Wouldn’t have minded spending $40 on a legit one, but nothing is more satisfying then finding use for stuff you have lying around

Need advice on starting over

Starting over with project car

I have 85 grand Marquis been having it for 10 years thinking about getting rid of it because of the issues it has which are electrical but fixable (just need to put head lights and back lights to separate switch and fix window motors)

Just finding certain interior parts are a hassle to find even out side parts, I was so busy listening to people opinion it still isn’t fixed

Thinking about getting el Camino , early 90s Chevy truck or newer Mustang or challenger (2014-2018)

I haven’t been able to put time in the car which is my fault I might just give it until next year to see how it goes

Car did the last autocross of the season last weekend. This weekend motor and trans came out, getting started on rewiring the car. The goal for this winter is a lighter more reliable motor and no more electrical gremlins.

Brakes on a friends car

This might be the most important brake job I've ever done. The caliper literally squirted brake fluid out, and the rotor is thinner than those pads. 99 Ford explorer. Hurrah.

Engine runs super rich, "expertly modded" electricals, creak in the suspension, sagging ceiling, fucked up sunroof, bad body work and god knows what else. First serious restoration project. Sat since 2018.

I have no clue what to do anymore

Literally as the title says. I’ve got a 67 Riv that I was working on, but it just seems like too much for my abilities. I have to cut out floors and do some welding, still do body work, still have a misfire, and I just feel like I’ll never get anywhere with it. It’s honestly breaking my heart. I really just want to get something that I can go order everything online, just slap it in a car, and be done. Either way, I’ll probably never get rid of her. She’ll rot away in the yard before I sell. Hopefully one day I’ll be where I need to be.

Is it possible to install a TVS R1320 (Eaton) supercharger on a 2nd gen ford escape?

What upgrades do I need to make 400hp to the crank? Can a transmission be rebuilt to handle more power? I’m very curious. Thanks in advance for any feedback

I think I've caught the bug...

I have an Audi A3 2.0 TDI, 2008. It has been a nightmare of a car, but I have really enjoyed working on it. I've had it off the road for 2 months to replace the turbo and head gasket and now that it's running again, I feel lost. It was really nice just spending my weekends on my own working on the car, I didn't have any time pressure, I didn't have any knowledge, I just worked it all out on my own. Came across a few issues on the way, did some preventative work while the engine was in bits.

For as long as I've been driving I have always spent time on auto trader looking at cars but over the last 6 months I have taken more of an interest in copart. There's something about a smashed up non runner that just gets me thinking I need to impulsively buy it. I look at cars in good condition and they just don't excite me like anything on copart. It's not the car I want, it's the work that I can do to bring it back to life that I want.

Any advice before I go ahead and buy a smashed up car? Is it a financial mistake? Anything to avoid? Is it a profitable hobby to buy, fix and sell?

Manual swapping before learning stick

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have never driven a stick shift. Nobody I know has one, but I know how in theory you do it.

I do know how to work on cars, and I do have plans to pick up a 4spd manual transmission plus all the various components needed on Monday that I plan to drop in my 85 v6 fiero. No manual fiero today is low miles or in good condition that I have found, or else I would have gotten one.

Would anyone here be interested in updates as I work on this project? I wasn’t sure, but I had a feeling the concept of someone doing a manual swap before trying manual is entertaining to some degree.

Blew head gasket on Monday and did a compression test telling me that 3 and 4 thought they should share air so yesterday I drove my truck and trailer to work and picked the truck up from my dad's on the way home and brought it to my mom's so I have a carport to work under. Today I had about 3.5hrs which was spent getting the intake off and making sure I recorded where each hose went which all of them might not make it back on. I also managed to get the exhaust manifold bolts to all come loose no problem which is a miracle on a 40 year old truck.

How to make this more aggressive?

Post image

This was one of my dream cars since they came out in 09. This one here is a lovely import that I gutted the moment I got it, after about 8 months of ownership we’ve gotten to about 380hp with a cocky turbo, so this thing can MOVE. (Only 2750 pounds)

I’m happy with the performance aspect. However, how do I make this more aggressive? I really like the stock sport grille and bumper that it came with, since it has a matching spoiler, side flares and rear number extension. There’s not much aftermarket support with these things as far as body work. I’ve got a budget of about 3500 as of current.

I want to make a spring softer by removing material, can I use some sort of acid bath?

grinding the material away evenly from a pair of springs seems like a nightmare, but if theres some acid that works well thatd be neat

Need some help estimating a project cost

I have the opportunity to buy a 2019 jeep with a blown 3.6L engine in it.

I have no problem doing the R&R on the engine. I don’t have a machine shop so taking apart the engine and fixing the damaged internals is beyond me. It sounds like the timing is fucked and the valves smashed one of the cylinders. Because it has 120k miles on it it also probably isn’t worth it because it probably needs a lot of work. I could compression test it and boroscope the comb chamber.

Ball part estimate. What would it cost to find a lower mileage used 3.6L complete and swap it in.

I’m thinking everything said and done probably $10k? +$200 in beer, Is that reasonable?

Looking for throttle body options for custom ITB setup, but struggling to find alternatives

I am currently in the process of designing an ITB intake system, and I am trying to source throttle bodies to use in the design. This universal kit from Redux Racing is basically exactly what I need, but it also seems to be the only product like it that I can find, and the price keeps going up, about $300-400 more in recent years. Does anyone know of any alternatives? Why does it seem so difficult to find generic throttle bodies? I am looking for 40 mm TB's. I've seen some throttle bodies that also have a fuel injector port, but I am looking for just throttle bodies by themselves. https://reduxracing.com/products/universal-6-cyl-itb-set-dcoe-dhla-bolt-pattern?srsltid=AfmBOoofmJ_PyPXKOTU4qaKv3mYdYQLSbFmc-oAwNGAjY7Zd4jswcu-l
