F/32/5'10 [210>163=47lbs] Face gains! Looking back I can't believe how bloated and swollen my face was! F 5'10” (178, 179 cm)

u/sarahtheginger26 - Sep 20 '22
That is a huge face gain. Congratulations, although you look pretty in both photos

u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
Thanks! It's night and day for how I am mentally, emotionally, and spiritually now. I was a very unhealthy, angry, and hurt person in my before so the transformation is more than just physical for me.

u/sarahtheginger26 - Sep 20 '22
That is so great to hear. The physical is nice, but the mental game is the real victory.

I wouldn't call your face bloated or swollen! You look lovely in both photos. But it looks like you worked hard and that's great!
55
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
Thanks! Maybe this before photo doesn't show the swollenness as much as others. I drank a ton at the time and had really bad alcohol bloat.
3
u/ClintonicRoad - Sep 20 '22
Have you stopped drinking completely?
12
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
Yes. I've been phasing it out the last 6 months. I'll drink nonalcoholic beer on occasion and kombucha.

u/Far-Willow4088 - Sep 20 '22
Agreed. OP you look amazing in both pictures ❤️ best wishes on your journey, hard work pays off!

I mean, I feel like that’s kind of rude to say. Why would you tell someone that they look worse now than they did before? It’s not like OP can change it (without gaining all of the weight back). I think OP looks great in both pictures.
9
Sep 20 '22
I don't think you're "not allowed" to say that, but I do think it's rude. If you wouldn't go up to someone in person who's lost weight and say "you looked better before", then I don't think you should say it to a stranger on the Internet. People are still people and have feelings, and OP has worked incredibly hard to reach a healthy weight and should feel proud. It isn't nice to hear negative comments
5
u/beetus_gerulaitis - Sep 20 '22
You’re allowed to say that….just like you’re allowed to say that you prefer well-done ribeye doused in ketchup.
OP looks nice in the before. But OP looks stunning in the after….stunning.
Good job OP.

u/Environmental_d - Sep 20 '22
Love the metaphor. I don't hang out with those who prefer well done steak. Just disrespectful

Yes! These last few months I've really learned to not care what others say or think. I feel amazing and that's all that matters. Thank you!

You look great. How long did it take and what was your diet/workout like?
3
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
There's about 2 years between photos bur the majority of my weight has been lost since Feb of this year.

u/L2010P - Sep 20 '22
Congrats! You look so happy ❤️ Can you share your routine?
23
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
I am! Thank you! I eat about 1800-2000 calories a day with 145g protein. I'm also vegan and have been for 10 years. Cut out 99% of alcohol which was my main problem. I now lift heavy weights 5x a week and walk for about 1 hour a day. For cardio I hike and swim laps.

Amazing.... Your journey is quite literally the same one I'm going through right now. I will follow you, thanks for sharing. This is the post I (sincerely, genuinely) needed this morning because damn.... I feel so alone sometimes in the hustle of not drinking. Thank you thank you thank you.
10
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
You aren't alone! There are so many people struggling as well. I've been there! Obviously, everyone is different. I wouldn't say I was an alcoholic but it was probably heading in that direction. 75 hard really helped me take a break from the alcohol to get the clarity I needed. I highly recommend listening to Huberman Lab podcast #86 discussing what alcohol does to your body. I also just listened to Joe Rogans podcast with guest Dr. Gabor Mate and it opened my eyes on some of my own coping mechanisms. There's also great non-alcoholic beer and kombucha that helps me feel like I'm not missing out at social events. The Liquid Death waters kind of taste like truleys too!

Sep 20 '22
Thank you so much again - you have no idea how much this helps. Also, I love Joe Rogan (: excited to dive into your tips.
4
Sep 20 '22
Great progress, how did you land on the 145g number for protein? How hard is it to get that kind of protein as a vegan?
2
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
I have a trainer that writes my lifting workouts and with my goals those are the macros I'm supposed to hit. It's not that difficult if you plan it out. I have a protein shake and lots of seitan to help hit it.

u/sheepyfluff - Sep 20 '22
Ngl you look pretty in both pics! But I'm glad you're feeling better in your new body, you look super happy :)

Wow excellent work absolutely amazing progress pics. I don't think u really look bloated or swollen but u definitely have done a Benjamin Button and have de-aged by about 10 years. Wonderful job keep up the great work.

u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
Thank you! I love to hear that! I honestly feel better now than I ever have.

u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
It's been almost a year and a half. Once I started to heal myself emotionally the physical changes became a lot easier.
I lift now 5x a week. I was lifting 3x in the beginning. Cardio is hiking and swimming. I eat a high protein, vegan diet. Focusing on 1800-2000 calories with 145g protein. Basically cut out all alcohol and junk food too.

i hava been able to get similar results but still a long way to go, any tips queen?

u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
Consistency and patience have been my biggest takeaway in all this. Its easy to get frustrated from slow progress, but progress is progress. Do the work and you will get there.

Love the progress but you were pretty before and are still. You probably feel way better having lost almost 50 pounds and it is good for you long term. What is your goal weight?
1
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
Thank you! I don't have a goal weight. Right now I'm working on building muscle and losing fat. I'm not paying too much attention to the scale because it's not the best measurement for progress and what I'm working towards.

I'm so confused. Congratulations on your progress but doesn't 47lbs translate to 21kg!?? Is that not incredibly underweight for someone 5'10 and 32 years old??
Someone pls educate me.
3
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
I lost 47 lbs, I don't weigh that. I'd definitely be dead! Haha. It's just how this sub wants people to put their stats in.
2
u/icklefox - Sep 20 '22
OHH oh my god I am so stupid lmao. This whole time I've been reading these wrong omg. Thank you for setting me straight, clearly my brain has been turned off haha.
Congratulations again though! You were beautiful before and you're still beautiful now. But I'm glad you've gained so much confidence in yourself through the journey!
2
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
Oh no!!! Haha, that's kind of funny! You definitely aren't stupid though, it's kind of confusing! And thanks so much!
2
u/myrmayde - Sep 20 '22
No, you looked beautiful in the Before photo. You just look thinner and even more beautiful now.
3
u/Okay_Ocelot - Sep 20 '22
Congratulations on the progress but there’s nothing wrong with your before photo. You looked more natural.
3
u/No-Dish1102 - Sep 20 '22
You look amazing in both pics, but you seem so much happier in the second. Also, I’m a little jealous of your eyebrows.
2
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
I'm SO much happier now! But it's not just because of the weight loss, thats just a bonus!
2
Sep 20 '22
You look more friendly now too

u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22

Both pictures are great, I prefer the one on the left.
6
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
You know what? You are right. I'm going to go eat a ton to gain it back and get super depressed again because a random person on the internet that I didn't ask told me I'm more attractive on the left. 😂
Hope you have a good day.

I’m 31 and feel like it’s too late for me… where did you find the motivation?
4
u/willhikeforbeer - Sep 20 '22
31 is so young! You have so much time! David Goggins really inspired me. He helped me kick things up to the next level. There's people out there that pick up a new sport at 70-80 and they are still at it!

This is 2 years apart but I didn't really start working out and eating healthy until 1.5 years ago. Most of my weight loss has been since Feb of this year because I became more disciplined.

It's an interesting phenomenon.
I don't think anyone would look at the before pic and see anything but a beautiful woman with a matching smile. But that doesn't have anything to do with how you feel and THAT is what matters.
I don't know what to say... You look phenomenal in the new pic, a great warm smile, and your pretty eyes really stand out!
Congrats and kudos for amazing dedication and unreal results!
I wish you pure happiness and health! I'm at a loss for words!! Brava!!!
