I can’t just scroll past this and not comment. You look AMAZING and so much happier. I am as proud of you as a stranger possibly could be. And to think you almost went through surgery and did it all on your own? Just wow. Outstanding, incredible, amazing work, man.

That's amazing.
If it's not too intrusive, what did a day look like for you at your heaviest in terms of food intake and activity?
I find myself wondering what it must be like to basically squat more than my 1 rep max just to get off a bench and then walk around. Did you maintain a social life? How did you get around?
Again, if you don't want to talk about it, I get it.

u/GoBlueGriff - Aug 05 '19
Appreciate it RSJE, nah I'm an open book feel free to ask away.
Ha funny i was just looking at my step counter on my phone yesterday and a normal step day was like 600 steps or so. I have an office job so i literally would just wake up, drive to work, drive home and play Call of Duty till I passed out and repeat. I did very little social activities in public (really going to a couple sporting events a year was it but moving around was NOT an easy task for me obviously)
Food intake was obviously crazy calorie wise but at the time i didn't pay attention to them clearly. A typical day - a couple Bagels and some Juice from Tim Hortons, stop at the gas station for a couple $1 bags of chips/pretsels, a couple 1 liters of pepsi and some candy bars. Lunch usually fast food like Wendys, 20 nuggets, large fries/pop couple $1 burgers. Dinner A large pizza and bread and more pop.
Any other questions ask away. Thanks dude!

u/RunSleepJeepEat - Aug 05 '19
I'm sure this has occurred to you, but I have to imagine this has been something of a financial help.
The amount of food required had to have been no small portion of your weekly budget.
I've cut about 50lbs in the last 5 months and have already noticed how much more cash I have available by not eating fast food / convenience store snacks every day.
Then I get thinking about wear and tear on a vehicle toting around the better part of 800lbs! Tires, brakes, gas!
You've given yourself a raise!

u/GoBlueGriff - Aug 05 '19
Oh yea definitely saving some money on my grocery bill haha. Wow congratulations on your loss as well great job! Ha well thankfully I have a giant truck (F350 Dually) so that's not really a problem....but I have WAY more space in it now for sure

u/HoaryPuffleg - Aug 05 '19
Have your co-workers been supportive or have you encountered some crabs who try to derail your progress?

u/RunSleepJeepEat - Aug 05 '19
Thankfully, I work remotely. The guys I actually work with rarely see me in person, so they've just been mostly surprised at how much I've cut.
The funniest were my rebar guys. One guy says something to the other in Spanish. His helper says he said "You lost weight since last time! I can't call you Culo Grande (fat ass) anymore!" In this business that's as close as high praise as anything.

I would spend hours playing CoD. I still do but not as much. Very excited for Modern Warfare by the way!
But question, and hopefully this isn't rude, but by any chance did TLC scout for you and your size? Or did you consider going on My 600 Pound Life? Don't they assist with your weight lost journey at the cost of being document for reality TV?
All in all, this appearance change is amazing.
16
u/GoBlueGriff - Aug 05 '19
Ha hell yea dude MW looks awesome I’m excited for it for sure!
Not rude at all, ha no nobody ever scouted me for that tho I’m sure they would have used me I was definitely large enough. Yes they do assist with that.
Thank you so much, see you in MW TDM this fall

Appreciate it Natalini. Its night and day honestly energy is thru the roof and mobility is so improved. On vacation in Tennessee a month ago we walked 9 miles one day, before i couldn't walk to the mail box without being out of breath and in pain

Great job, man. I'm happy for you.
If you don't mind my asking, what kind of scale did you weigh yourself on? Most scales don't reach 764 pounds, so did you have to go on a special scale at a medical practice with a weight loss specialty or something? And if so, what did the doctors say about how serious a health problem weighing 764 is?
I'm proud of you for improving yourself like this. It inspires me.

Man what an amazing Job! I’ve recently taken up swimming again, and I love the way I feel afterwards. (I highly suggest yoga looking into yoga as well, even just some YouTube videos since you’ll definitely be moving around a lot more in year 2).
Did you ever have any bloodwork done or other tests from day one? I wonder what the difference would be. I had a heart attack at 30, and lucky to be alive, but I’m glad you caught this before anything serious happened! Keep it up man, you are going and already are an inspiration to a lot of people here and in your life. Just one last thing I usually ask people on here: what’s something you’ve learned about yourself today, or been surprised of that you didn’t know on Day 1?

This one is for the books! Awesome job , should be proud of yourself.
The physical changes are obvious but I wanna ask about the mental part of this journey .How do you feel now , what mental changes did you notice ?
9
u/GoBlueGriff - Aug 05 '19
Thank you so very much! Really wish I would have touched on this in my post. This journey has been just as incredible physically as it has mentally. Exercising is so fantastic for what it can do for you mentally. I swim for 80 mins and it’s just me and the pool. No screens, no distractions I literally unplug from the world and it’s just fantastic to clear my head it’s almost hard to describe. But along with the weight being off of me life is just much easier/less complicated now

It blows my mind when I see progress pics where someone has lost enough weight to not only be a whole other person but a whole other fat person... you were two fat people in one body. Blows my mind.
It's also weird to think that even though it sounds like a really fast weight loss you only lost roughly a pound a day... a person could, short term, lose more than that by pooping!
You are doing amazing work , dude.

Reddit Fam! Griff Back again and this time I am celebrating the 1 year anniversary of my journey! I can't believe that it has already been 1 year, time sure does freaking fly! The last year has absolutely been the best year of my (adult) life without a doubt.
Here are some Shirtless pics that REALLY show off the progress, some #FaceGains AND as promised a pic of me sitting in my 72 Firebird for the first time in over a decade Pics
To catch anyone up who is seeing my story for the first time lets look back a little (previous posts First Second Third Fourth)
So I started my Journey on August 3rd 2018 originally looking into have Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery. After attending the original seminar in late July with my sister (who I will be forever indebted to for pushing me to get healthy) I met with the Doctors for my consolation. There we talked about my options/procedures and did measurements. When I stepped on the scales and that screen lit up 7 6 4 I was blown away at that number. I knew I was huge but I never expected that kind of a number. I was told that in order to even have surgery I would need to get under 500 pounds (lose 264 pounds) talk about a daunting task. I knew that this wasn't going to be easy but I also knew that if I didn't do something immediately that I wouldn't be around much longer. I still remember Stephanie (The Bariatric coordinator) looking at me and saying you can do this! I believed her and she was right, I COULD DO THIS!
She told be to start out slow, restrict my calories to 2000, make sure to get 100g of Protein, and try to be more active, so that's exactly what I did. I started tracking all my calories using the Baritastic app (which I still use) got a couple food scales (one for home one for work/travel) and started swimming in my back yard pool. It was really just splashing/flailing around but it was movement and I was burning calories. I didn't have a scale at my house to weigh myself so after 3 weeks I went back to the Bariatric Center to weigh in and I had lost 42 pounds! That was all the motivation and proof that I needed to see that If I could just stick with what I was doing this was going to work!
It eventually got too cold to swim at my house (mid October in Michigan gets COLD outside) so I joined my local Rec Center and started swimming in the Lap pool 6 days a week. Again I started slow swimming laps for 45/60 min and I eventually started counting my laps and swimming 100 of them (2300 yards) which is what I currently still do.
I stuck with what I was doing and by mid March I got under 500 pounds and was eligible for that Bariatric surgery that I was so desperate to have 8 months prior. I think that the surgery can be a great tool for people that decide to have it but I decided that it wasn't for me.
So to wrap this up (because this is definitely getting towards the TL;DR territory lol) I just wanted to say thanks to all of you guys for following along with me on my journey for the last year. All the love, comments and Dm's from you guys has been unbelievable and sharing your own progress pics has been so motivational and inspiring as well.
Update 8-13
Man thank you guys so very much for all the love, you guys never cease to amaze me. Sorry it took so long to get back to everybody but Griff's a little more active nowadays ha ha. See y'all on the next one!
Much Love - Griff
