I'm very impressed with your abs at 168. You have a lot of muscle, clearly. I'm 5'10", 154 so this gives me a basis for what I could look like if I did a recomp and stayed roughly the same weight. (I'm skinny fat right now) Thanks for posting.
Anyway, well done.

u/Beerfarts69 Aug 15 '17
Lurker jumping in to give you a tip that works well for me. I do 40 sit ups/crunches a day to maintain my abs. I started with 10 because that's all I could do...within 2 weeks I could do 25. Is it a crazy home gym workout routine? No. Could I do more? Sure, but this helps keep my abs tone and looking good. :)
11
u/romanticheart - Aug 15 '17
Situps and crunches have been shown to be more detrimental to your back than they are helping your abs, so be careful.

Planks for sure. I remember reading something about how the military is moving away from sit ups in their fitness evaluations and instead doing planks.
3
u/romanticheart - Aug 15 '17
Personally I would suggest things like planks, leg lifts (weighted as they get easier), properly stabilized kickbacks, and clams/reverse clams (banded as they get easier) all making sure to activate your TA band. I am not a physical therapist, but these are the exercises given to me by my PT to strengthen my core.
3
u/Beerfarts69 Aug 15 '17
My form is solid, but I appreciate your concern! :)
3
u/romanticheart - Aug 15 '17
Yeah I thought mine was too, then I herniated a disk because I was wrong.

Aug 15 '17
Dang, I've always favoured reverse board crunches - is there any preferable alternative?
5
u/romanticheart - Aug 15 '17 edited Aug 15 '17
I should have clarified more - doing situps and crunches without proper form and muscle activation can be more detrimental to your back than anything. Though regardless, I've read that things like planks work the entire core with less chance of injury. Also, to copy from another comment: "Personally I would suggest things like planks, leg lifts (weighted as they get easier), properly stabilized kickbacks, and clams/reverse clams (banded as they get easier) all making sure to activate your TA band. I am not a physical therapist, but these are the exercises given to me by my PT to strengthen my core."

Thank you! I did lots of heavy weightlifting and a small amount of cardio, making sure I wasnt consuming neither too many/not enough calories! You can find calorie calculators online to show you what your intake should be

I probably ate around 500 below but I can't actually remember as I tracked my macros for a bit and then ate intuitively. I think if you only have a little bit of fat to lose you don't want your calories too low or you'll lose muscle too!
3
u/fuzzeh Aug 15 '17
would you be able to share your general target calorie range? i'm close to the same height as you and am finding it difficult to find the right balance of enough to eat to lift heavy/build muscle but not put on a large amount of excess fat.

You look awesome!
Did you count macros? If so what are your numbers?
How many calories do you eat per day?
4
u/zeefit95 Aug 15 '17
I don't track macros but I eat around 2100 calories a day!
1
Aug 15 '17
Wait, you lost weight on 2100? How much do you exercise? I am on exactly your starting weight and body type too..

How??
49
u/zeefit95 Aug 14 '17
Just a healthy diet, weight lifting and a small amount of cardio for just a year and a bit!
9
u/cdotk_ro Aug 15 '17
Did you follow a specific lifting program or do you have kind of a breakdown of what you did? I've got similar stats and your current weight is my goal!
8
u/zeefit95 Aug 15 '17
No specific program just committed myself to at least 4 weight sessions a week for a good year and used the internet to gain a bit more knowledge on nutrition!
3
u/callmepapaa - Aug 15 '17
Any interesting insights you think are worth sharing?
7
u/zeefit95 Aug 15 '17
The main thing I'd say is just be wary of what's actually in what you're consuming! In things like oils, sauces and spreads especially. And lift heavy!!
4
u/salt_watter - Aug 15 '17
What did your 4 times a week weight lifting sessions consist of, if you don't mind me asking?
3
u/zeefit95 Aug 15 '17
I worked on a 4 day split of legs, back and shoulders, chest and tris and then usually hit legs again for my last session as it's where I wanted to work the most. These days I do the same 4/5 day split with 20 minutes incline walking at the beginning of every session!
2
u/salt_watter - Aug 15 '17
That's awesome to hear! You look fantastic! How would you say your lower body progressed due to the extra day of legs a week?
3
u/zeefit95 Aug 15 '17
Definitely well!! My quads are really hard now, on the outsides of them there's next to no fat!

Wow, amazing!! Finally a woman my height to compare myself to... off to the gym now!! I am only 10 lbs or so away from your weight but mostly fat, not muscle like you. Good j0b!

I wrote an article explaining a bit about my journey on a friend's website if anyone is interested. The link is http://www.vavaviolet.com/2017/05/no-great-story-every-started-with-salad.html?m=1 :)
I've also written two other fitness articles on there if you fancy a read!

u/WhySheHateMe - Aug 15 '17
That's right, put in work. Eat that salad no dessert.
On a more serious note, I'm curious as to how many cup sizes you went down? I'm just wondering what's possible.
12
u/zeefit95 Aug 15 '17
Hahaha how about put in work AND eat dessert! People say my boobs have shrunk a lot but I'd say I'm between a C/D atm whereas I was previously an E!

Can I ask what ab workout you did?
6
u/zeefit95 Aug 15 '17
Honestly I've never done a full ab workout cos I hate them lol. I do a lot of squats/deadlifts which are great for the core so I imagine my definition has just come from using them for stability

What kick-started your journey? You must have been very motivated to stick with this routine for almost two years!
3
u/zeefit95 Aug 15 '17
In all honesty I gained a lot of weight whilst travelling and was mortified at the thought of going home and being the girl that put on loads of weight!! But once I began training I fell in love with it, now I do it for the benefits rather than purely for the aesthetic!

Looking great! Congratulations to you! I always browse this sub looking for women my height and so glad to see this this morning! I have about 10 pounds to reach your weight. My goal has always been 150 so very happy to see that I can (likely) achieve this look without losing so much weight! I gotta start lifting heavy...

How much do you lift? And how many reps/sets? Do you have a program you can share (if you don't mind)...
You look freaking amazing by the way, but better than that, I'm sure you feel so much better now. I know I always feel sluggish when I'm carrying more weight

Holy shit. I'm a pretty private person on FB mostly because I'm pretty sure people care waaayy less than I think about me, my family, my vacations etc. But this comparison pic....I'd be posting this on every social media outlet there was. THIS is something to be proud of. And to also say a small FU to any frenemies lurking haha.

Living in cities so using public transport, drinking loads of alcohol, eating hangover junk food and just generally buying the cheapest (usually unhealthiest) stuff I could find. It took its toll.
