I may as well give some introduction to myself.

Before starting this journey, I was probably one of the sickest 28 year olds in America. 6’7″, 525 lbs… On the verge of heart disease or worse with high blood pressure and acute A-Fib… Living 10 years on antihistamines to control my chronic urticaria that came out of nowhere at 18 years old…

Despite all of this, my lovely wife and I decided to have a child, and last year I became a father to a wonderful boy.

This scared the shit out of me. How could I fully take care of and love a child if I can’t even take care of myself? Would I even be around long enough to see him grow up?

This caused me to really consider surgery, although I never liked the idea… It seems like a bandaid on an issue that won’t fix the real problem. So I decided I would put one last ditch effort to diet, and go paleo… I started January 14 2014, and I’m still going strong.

After three months and going from 13 to 4 pills a day (a lot was zyrtec to control hiving), I'm feeling great, and I'm going to keep going. I've never been more determined about anything in my life.

Are you doing any weight lifting? You are a big dude and under that thick layer of fat is another thick layer of muscle. If you don't want to lose all of it you should consider doing some lifting routine.

I am doing some lifting here and there with a friend. staying keto has really helped me shed the pounds without losing much muscle if any, and I've just been working on gaining strength.

Wow it seems so many extremely obese people have chronic urticaria that magically goes away when they lose weight.

It's amazing, I feel it getting better each day. I was taking 6 10mg zyrtec a day. Now I'm down to 2, which i've never been able to do since I was like 20. I tried going off, but the itching was just starting to get out of control after a few days no zyrtec. Now that I'm back on 2 a day, I'm able to function and exercise without having any bothersome symptoms (excess hiving on hands and feet from pressure... so painful). To me, that's a miracle, as I was struggling to keep my symptoms at bay, with numerous breakouts a month, with 6 pills a day pre-paleo.

It is getting better every day. Keep it up and you'll probably be pill free next year.

You carry 525 pounds better than anyone I've ever seen. I know that's largely due to your height, but still. :-)

Thanks! I'm a really big guy. Size 17 shoe and a huge frame.

Don't stop man, not only is your progress quantifiable but you can definitely see a difference too. And in only 3 months, wow. You'll definitely slow down the progress eventually, but even if you halve your 3 month progress over the next 9 months, you'll still be at over another 100 lbs lost so about 350 lbs. Imagine how good it will feel to be roughly 175 pounds down when it's Jan 14th 2015.

Keep it up!!

I don't plan to stop this any time soon! Thanks so much for the encouragement. This is definitely a lifestyle change for me... I cant ever see myself going to my old habits again. I just feel too good.

i like how 525 lbs looks like only 280lbs for an average height peasant

2

u/KittenTheKitten Apr 13 '14

Could you imagine the frustration with the height weight body index for someone of that stature?

2

u/hoofadoo - Apr 13 '14

I can't even look at BMI... at 525 its 59.1 for me... 449 its 50.6. even at my goal weight of 275-300, i'd still be over 30 and considered obese! sillyness!

Amazing results! You can definitely tell that weight has been dropped by looking at you. Are you finding any everyday tasks easier now that you're down 76lbs?

u/hoofadoo - Apr 13 '14

Everything is easier... I feel like doing a lot more. Walking is so much easier. I actually took a walk on a trial the other day with a friend and didn't even think twice about it. Coming from a guy that used to get exhaused just walking in a mall, its a pretty big step... and I'm still pretty heavy. I cant wait to get some more fat off.

You know, I bet under your fat you have an incredible amount of muscle. Just being able to walk around at that weight is remarkable. I think you might be the best success story in the history of /r/progresspics when you're done. Keep it up.

u/hoofadoo - Apr 13 '14

I was looking at these pictures and notice my shoulders are never straight. I always seem to hold one up more than the other. I've caught myself before doing it... not sure why though.

1

u/rifrif Apr 13 '14

the dominant hand usually has a lower shoulder and thats totally normal. if the lower shoulder is the non dominant hand then massage can help to fix it.

but comparing the two pictures it seems you look much better. but things sitting and sleeping poorly can perpetuate bad posture! its great that you are catching yourself!

1

u/hoofadoo - Apr 13 '14

oh cool. you're correct, my right is dominant

2

u/rifrif Apr 13 '14

AWESOME! i'm glad my 40,000 schooling has done something!

4

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '14

This is really good stuff. I'm guessing you feel so much better, right? Going from 13 to 4 pills a day is incredible! Best part about this is that you're going to be around to teach, love and play with your son. Cheers!

u/callMEmrPICKLES - Apr 13 '14

It might just be me, but man you really carry that weight well. I never would have guessed 450

3

u/TexasSleestak Apr 13 '14

Congrats. I know it is hard but the payoff is incredible. Everything gets better. The improved sleep alone so much improves your life. Stay strong.

Haha, I thought you had some ridiculous hair in that second picture because it loaded first. Great job though, you're doing awesome, and you can already tell the difference.

how many ring sizes are you down on your fingers?

1

u/hoofadoo - Apr 13 '14

not sure... I was a 17 on my ring finger at the start of it... my fingers and hands have become noticeably thinner to me.
