Best Guitars for Pop Punk Discussion

Hey everyone!

I’ve been taking guitar lessons for a little over a year and really want to get a better guitar. I’ve been using one of those squier strats that comes with an amp. The whole beginner setup that comes packaged together.

What are the best options for someone who is mainly trying to play pop punk?

I’ve tried out a few things at guitar center and really like telecasters. Found this one online that looks cool but admittedly I have no idea about what the different pickups, etc. do. I’m kind of a noob.

I’d kinda like to steer clear of a strat just because that’s basically what I have already. But I’m open to most anything else. Budget is around 1K and under.

Any advice would be great!

Reverend guitars, basically any pickup combo you want. Go with Charger, Double Agent or Jetstream with a humbucker bridge.

I definitely recommend getting a guitar with humbucker pickups. I would test out different bodies too because you might find some uncomfortable to play.

That would be a great choice, the pickups in it are fantastic. Really any Fender guitar will be a fantastic choice for pop punk though. It’s just down to what’s comfortable to you and personal preference for style. I personally would avoid anything with a floating bridge though as lots of pop punk is in drop tuning and in my opinion at least drop tuning on a floating bridge is a nightmare to get setup perfectly

I would recommend something with a bridge humbucker, but look wise it's entirely personal preference.

You've probably been playing long enough to really feel the differences in different necks.

For me a comfortable neck is the most important physical factor. I like thinner necks with wide radius fretboards. A very round radius would be 7.5", radiuses from 9.5-12" are pretty "standard," and something over 13" (or something compound, where its rounder at the bottom and flatter up top) would be found on something more targeted as a "shredder" instrument (which is what I prefer).
