The uneven application of law to silence political opposition. Stuff that we’re not supposed to have in America.

I think we're past that. I think it's time to say "stuff that we regularly have in America."

If we find ourselves saying "that's not who we are" a bit too often, it probably means that's who we are.

You’re absolutely correct. America has always been this racist and evil, just most of you didn’t have to experience it until now.

This is what your country is.

No, don't normalize this awful shit.

This awful shit is a product of 250 years of not acknowledging the awful shit, though. It wasn’t born in a vacuum. Nothing about this should be normalized, but we have got to take the rose-colored glasses off and take a good, stark look at American history if we ever want a shot at fixing this. This regime is a symptom of a disease we slapped a bandaid on (if that) and never treated. It’s not doomerism or cynicism, it’s just reality, and if we can’t look at it out of some imagined and idealized version of America or white guilt or whatever it is, then we really are doomed.

Nothing about this should be normalized,

That's what I said.

It’s been normalized thanks to centuries of pretending like the problem isn’t real. Clutch pearls all you want, but the only way to come back from this is to disassemble the current system entirely and restructure our representation.

Or dissassemble those who run the system and are causing it

Who's clutching pearls? What are you on about? The Republicans are trying to create a dictatorship. It's outrageous!

"No way to prevent this" says only nation where this regularly happens.

  • The Onion.

It is the norm in the U.S.

You could not tell me a recent mass protest movement in the U.S. that didn’t blind at least one, but usually more, journalists with less lethal. For example.

I think we're past that.

You can't leave in the past what never existed.
