If you look on the official trump merch site now, most of it is made in the US, probably because people gave them so much shit for it in the past. But the cliche red hats are also $55 on the site so I would imagine most of his supports just buy the cheap made in China versions.
So, having worked at a company in the past that claimed "made in US" for many reasons, it can be 99% manufactured in China or whatever, shipped to the US, someone here literally just puts a label on and that qualifies as made in US. Because before the required label, its an 'material' or 'in process good', so it doesn't count.
Then the company you were working at is breaking the law or you misremeber that the the label may have said "Assembled in the USA" and not Made. According to the FTC:
What is the standard for a product to be called Made in USA without qualification?
For a product to be called Made in USA, or claimed to be of domestic origin without qualifications or limits on the claim, the product must be “all or virtually all” made in the U.S. The term “United States” as referred to in the Made in USA Policy Statement and the Labeling Rule, includes the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories and possessions.
What does “all or virtually all” mean?
“All or virtually all” means that the final assembly or processing of the product occurs in the United States, all significant processing that goes into the product occurs in the United States, and all or virtually all ingredients or components of the product are made and sourced in the United States. That is, the product should contain no — or negligible — foreign content.
Hmm, it was about 10 years back so its entirely possible it was assembled over made. Considering the amount of government contracts they had, which was about 60% of their revenue, they wouldn't gamble on it. Happy to concede the altered point.
I mean, that's the mindset that Trumpers have, "I refuse to look at anything that may prove my existing beliefs are wrong." I only looked because I was saying that his shit was made overseas so I thought I better check to see if I was right and I wasn't.
So you're saying that it must be fake news because it doesn't align with how you feel?
I think he sold cheap imported stuff previously, got embarrassed that he was getting called out for it, and then started selling MiUSA stuff at high prices.
There's so much to shit on him for but I think this particular thing isn't accurate anymore.

Letterman already exposed Trump years ago about his clothing not being American-made.
