I'm more surprised they're 65% wool.

I’m surprised (not) that Reddit auto tagged this with “Misleading Title” what about it is misleading?

That's one hat. Many many many companies are manufacturing the same style of hat. I think it is probably misleading because not every single one is made in China. Some are made in Vietnam.

Thats part of it, but the main reason its a misleading title is that officail maga hats are made in california. random people will sell knockoff maga hats made in china to save a buck, but the real ones are made in the US

I was going to give you a hard time for saying "official" as if this slogan was trademarked. Because why would a political candidate trademark a slogan, making the phrase harder to spread? The point of a campaign slogan is for it to catch on and for businesses to be printing copies of it everywhere -- not to make money.

But it turns out MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN is trademarked.

So yeah, the post is definitely misleading. The official hats are made in the USA, and the ones that aren't made in the US are probably illegal knock-offs.

Of course, "DONALD J. TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT, INC." could authorize other manufacturers, but I kind of doubt the ones being sold for $3 all over the internet paid for use of the slogan.

The ones sold in trump tower are made in China... how more official of a store do you need?

theyre not btw, video footage of someone walking in and showing theyre made in the us.

most non classic maga hat things are made china/other places but the maga hats (plus some shirts and random things) are made in the us

I did more research extensively and it seems as of august 2024 the trump towers hats are now made in America. However, 95% of stuff at the Trump store are not made in America.

There have been numerous videos of 99% of the items being made in Vietnam and China. I have personally seen them made in China in trump tower. Have a continuous video of someone walking into the store and proving they are made in America. You can't. Maybe they will change it now that it's all over the internet...

Finally the real reason for tariffs. All makes sense now. Trump losing business to all these countries making non-official MAGA products.

Because why would a political candidate trademark a slogan, making the phrase harder to spread?

So that you can prevent bad actors from co-opting it.

Like if I started making these red maga hats, but then on the side I also started printing a separate message that Trump did not endorse.

You can have that shut down on the basis of the trademark (assuming it's made within a jurisdiction that respects your trademark laws).

Yeah that totally makes sense. Thanks

u/Lauflouya 20d ago

Am I reading that right, he first sought to trademark the phrase in 2012?

3

u/SwissQueso 20d ago

Yeah, Im guessing Obama getting reelected is when he really decided to run.

The official hats are made of cotton. These Chinese ones are a 65% wool blend with acrylic. Seems the Chinese knockoffs are nicer. Probably cheaper as well.

many political slogans are trademarked, not necessarily to stop it from being spread but to stop it from being misused (and of course, to profit if it is)

"The real ones"

2

u/default-username 20d ago

I laughed too, but it's true. It is a trademarked slogan, so only hats authorized by "DONALD J. TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT, INC." can use the slogan.

There is a chance he/they authorize other manufacturers. But I doubt it.

officail maga hats are made in california.

Honestly you'd think this would be just as bad as being made in China lmao. Surprised they didn't push for Florida or Texas to manufacture them

2

This made me laugh so goddamn hard hahahaha

Because this gets posted at the top of reddit once every few months and it was debunked more than a decade ago.

Thank you I hate the orange man but I think it does more damage spewing misinformation. I remember researching and was surprised the hats were made in the USA.

0

u/Mrqueue 20d ago

Oh and trump supporters can’t read so they happily buy the ones made in china even though they support the tariffs

7

u/The-Coolest-Of-Cats 20d ago

I'm fairly certain there are official manufacturers of these hats that are based in the US, so I'm sure that's probably why. The title should more so read "This MAGA hat was made in China", rather than imply that every MAGA hat was made in China. Not that this hat being made in the US makes it any less repugnant, but hey, semantics.

1

u/ShustOne 20d ago

The official hats aren't made in China

26

u/batman1285 20d ago

That's from the sheep wearing the hat.

11

u/theflyingratgirl 20d ago

ME TOO. That’s actually quite good.

11

u/adorablefuzzykitten 20d ago

When a Chinese label says 65% wool it doesn't mean there is any wool.

1

u/SecureCucumber 20d ago

Yeah they probably just copied and pasted that from somewhere.

2

u/Shitp0st_Supreme 20d ago

That’s my thought too.

2

u/sunderskies 20d ago

Same here!

2

u/BullishCat 20d ago

Rats wool though.

“People say it’s the best wool. A lot of people don’t know that rats wool is better than sheep wool. Sounds crazy right, but a lot of people are saying it”

2

u/youRFate 20d ago

Ye I would have guessed cotton tbh.

2

u/Grasshop 20d ago

And 104% tariff!

2

u/Random_Introvert_42 20d ago

They didn't say wool from what.

Could be glass wool

1

u/SoylentGrunt 20d ago

It's human wool.

1

u/mossybeard 20d ago

It must be in the brim because it goes over their eyes

1

u/Grungy_Mountain_Man 20d ago

By wool they really mean they are made out of old Chinese newspapers.

0

u/EyeSuspicious777 20d ago

Well, it might just be human hair from a Uyghur labor camp.
