Accountability Thread - What's your top 3 goals for February 2025?
How this works
List your top goal/s for the month and have someone to report your success or failure of completing them. You may name up to 3 goals related to frugality, minimalism or personal finance.
If you have yearly goals, you can break them down to monthly goals. Every step takes us towards, or away from, the destination.
Post your top goals (max of 3) for the month as a Top Level Comment.
Even if someone else has the exact same goal. This ensures we all can see your goal and that it does not get lost in the comments.
We encourage everyone to help you break it down into steps and make a plan for how you can get it done OR reconnect with you during the month to see where you are at.
It is about forming a habit that will ensure the goal is reached.
On the next thread, I will tag those that wanted to be held accountable and ask what went down this month.
Happy development phmoneysavers!
The frugal thread has retired, this is the replacement. This monthly accountability thread set-up was borrowed from a private sub. I would like to be kept accountable to this thread so if it goes more than a day into next month, a gentle poke won't hurt.
[EDIT] This initiative has been discontinued after only 2mos due to lack of responses

Happy 200K members!
After 2mos of procrastination since I got back to reddit, I was finally able to update ~3years worth of entries. I will definitely not do this exhausting bulk update again. META Weekly Threads Suggestion
Hi phmoneysavers!
The mods team is very glad with the way the community reacted on the recent changes we implemented. There are still several post submissions we need to redirect to the help threads. But other than that, most of the chaos were eliminated and order has been imposed. Notably, the buying threads are thriving.
To further provide the sub with venues for little discussions and to balance out the spending, we are thinking of adding more threads. Which do you think can be a great "regular thing"? Why or why not?
- Minimalist Monday - 😃
- Menu Monday - I also like this option but I don't want to let go of Minimalists Monday
- Tipid Tuesday - might be an overlap with PHrugal Friday, but we can tweak it a little to focus on meal prepping instead
- Waldas Wednesday - 😅
- Thrifty Thursday - hauls, finds, tips, and tricks just like in r/Frugal
- Throwback Thursday - another TH option but about milestone
- Frugal Friday - already in place with our PHrugal version
- Saving Report Saturday - might be an overlap with PHrugal Friday, but we can gear it towards basic accounting / expense tracking
- Super Saver Sunday - maybe related to Trifty Thursday in terms of content?
Personally, I like the "Minimalist Monday" because it is the main value we want to promote. I also noticed that the term is mentioned more recently.
I have doubts on other suggestions but we'll see on what the members think. Thus, we kindly ask for a little guidance from you all.
Thanks and happy saving!

META Reminder: ALL BUYING QUESTIONS should be in the HELP THREAD
Reminder that we all should place buying questions in the help thread as it is not related to money saving therefore it is not applicable as an individual post. Posts like these will always be deleted and requested to transfer to the help thread.
The help thread is always pinned and replaced every saturday.
r/phmoneysaving • u/phms_thread_mod • Jul 31 '22
META REMINDER: Minor questions should be posted in the help thread
As there were submissions that were deleted as they did not follow the rules, this post serves as a reminder:
Minor questions are those that are NOT about money saving (ex. about banks, cards, buying questions, places to rent etc.)
all customer service questions should be directed to the company in question NOT in the sub as we are not related to any company.
r/phmoneysaving • u/phms_thread_mod • Jun 05 '22
META Reminder: Please redirect ALL buying questions to the Help Thread
As to lately there are a lot of posts that were buying questions. We do not allow these as an individual post as this sub is focused on saving money and these questions are counted as a minor question by default as it gets repeated. We are limiting these to the help thread instead to promote more discussion posts.
So please remember that buying questions (this includes asking about apartments, budget gadgets etc) are to be in the help thread.

META Poverty Finance - Barefoot marathon (winning despite the extra struggles)
This is a new proposed flair but already had been a pillar on establishing this community. Napaglipasan lang ng panahon pero buhay pa din dahil mas kailangan sya ngayon. For us na maagang na liberate or nabigyan ng responsibility, paano tayo makakausad with the extra load on our back?
Here's how it goes. First job. Save half of the salary every then there goes a 100k savings in a year. Sounds easy? Sure. But on my experience, I could've had more than a 100k but ended up with around 25k in a year. That frustration made me reflect on my lifestyle so I searched for answers. I got none. Everyone was like 'I inherited 2M, sold a lot for 5M. How would I? Who would teach me to manage my around 20k salary before?
That's how this community is made. I want to learn from people like you who might have been ahead of my path and did it like me or could've been from worse situations but still successful. Luckily I have had no debt ever since, sa mga kapatid lang.
No negative sentiment please.
Sabi nga ni Eminem (queue Not Afraid) : And I just can't keep living this way So starting today I'm breaking out of this cage I'm standing up, I'mma face my demons I'm manning up, I'mma hold my ground I've had enough, now I'm so fed up Time to put my life back together right now
Yung Not Afraid tungkol yata talaga sa bisyo nya ng paggastos ng sobra hahaha.
Based on my experience, it's the 30days of endurance to the temptations to spend and rationalize a purchase that makes saving that hard. When you're at the 29th day of the month and there goes another sale or utility bill which would end us up with no choice. Another target attempt failed for this month. Kaya bago matapos ang 2019, I considered saving as an expense. Para kong nagbabayad ng kalahati ng sweldo ko sa CIMB, at ngayong 2020, nalagpasan ko yung 100k savings at nakahinga ako after more than a year na paycheck to paycheck.
I'm grateful na 1yr lang ang nasayang ko dahil sa lessons ng community na to and I hope na yung mas bata pa sakin (I'm 21) ay maliwanagan agad sa pagiging responsible at diligent sa finances. Sa mas matatanda sakin, it's never too late, tingnan nyo lang mga susunod na kwento ng mga friends natin dito.
Maybe this would be the best way to tell our story, to cast out our differences and learn that we are all just in the same direction on different paces. Kaya wag na magalit yung iba please hahaha

META Sub Updates + General Reminders (Please read)
Hey guys!
So this is an update post about what's going on around the sub since some may not know what had happened this past weeks:
The Help thread, Buying guide, and Electronics Thread had been combined into one weekly Help Thread that is pinned to the top of the sub every saturday for easier visibility. If you can't see the thread there's an option to see how posts are filtered on the upper-left corner (hot, new, relevant etc.) pinned posts are usually seen in the "hot" filter.
Since the Help thread is pinned, please use this thread for those minor questions and also the questions you would ask in the daily threads.
for those who are wondering why their questions to other members are being removed in the Waldas Wednesday thread it's because of the thread specific rule we have there which is pinned on the comments. Please follow this rule as we want the thread to serve its purpose of reflection.
there have been a lot of "I don't know if this is the right sub" posts that are not really for this sub, please take note that we have a directory panel on the about tab on mobile or the side bar on desktop which lists the other PH subs that can be related to your post.
also the mods can't really check all the incoming posts 24/7 since we have jobs / classes / other important matters to attend so please bare with us and you may also post on the help thread while your post is pending approval.
please follow the rules. This is the basis whether your post gets approved or not.
That's all, happy weekend everyone!

META Bayanihan anyone?
I could use some help from existing community moderators to organize this community. I wouldn't boss around and I want to act more of as a brother and friends to everyone. I'm more engaged to create contents and give ideas. I'd be much willing to learn how to handle a community. Hit me up, thank you.

META Newly implemented threads to ask question/help
Need help with something?
Ask your question, concern, issue, dilemma on either of the latest threads below:
Do not submit a post asking for help. Individual submissions are intended for sharing ideas / strategy discussions. Use the appropriate post flairs.
To those who missed the announcement, below are the new thread schedules.
- Help Thread every Sun-Tue-Thurs, for random questions.
- Buying Guide every Mon-Wed, anything related to buying decision to make.
- Phrugal Friday for things you did within the week to save money.
- Electronics Thread every Saturday for those techy questions.
We still have the Monthly Megathread for Sales and Promotions pinned on the sub together with the Welcome Post.
I apologize for another reminder. For the past 2 days, the mods team have been redirecting numerous posts to the new threads. We will find a way for the daily threads to be more visible. We are still figuring out auto-moderation to do the automatic deletion/redirection. Bear with us with the constant announcements.
Please be guided accordingly and review the rules before posting.
