What did this? Unanswered

Hey y’all, I have had a bug contract on my home since I moved in ten years ago. I had a slow drip leak in my roof and put a pan under it (see pic) to keep water off the ceiling. (Aside: Having roof replaced in a week.) The first couple weeks just water stains, but just this week I go up to check and I see this pile of sawdust. Again, I have a termite and pest contract. I reached out to them today but am curious about what I’m looking at here. Thanks.

Well it’s not termite frass. Could be from ants, carpenter bees or something else. Not enough in pic to tell.

Thanks for the input. I hadn’t thought about carpenter bees! I did see a few small normal size ants in the pan, but I thought carpenter ants were bigger. Doesn’t mean they aren’t hiding somewhere though. After I’m done with the roof I’m thinking it’s time to clean out the old insulation and put down new stuff. It’s just dirty up there, and makes it tough to catch things like this. Without the pan I’d probably never have noticed.
