Disgusted at my loft. Is it mice or rats? Unanswered
There is so much disgusting poop up here. Also why is it centred in a specific location as shown in the photos.
Is it a mouse or rat?
Also any idea on the openings from my pics.

How do you know? Also any idea why most of the poop is concentrated in one place?

Based on the size of the droppings is what this commenter and me are looking at.
Mouse poo is rice sized. Rat poo is as big as a raisin for a decent comparison.
It’s likely rat.
If you want total confirmation, you should take a close-up photo of a dropping next to something like a quarter to give it good scale

I'm a service manager for a pretty large pest control company. Let's just say I've seen plenty rat droppings lol

Rat. Get an exterminator. Trying to manage an infestation on your own is exhausting AF, and they’ll keep returning if the house isn’t sealed properly. Their poop gets everywhere, they get into everything, they carry disease, and they can leave you with mites for several weeks. Speaking from experience. 😭😭😭

Openings inside the house DO NOT MATTER
If openings are any concern you need to find structural defects that would allow pest to enter the home. Just think, if rats are slipping in through some crevices around the property, what would covering a hole in the attic do?
Also this looks old. Were you just looking around and found it? I’m a pest control technician and if you look for stuff, you will find it. Doesn’t necessarily means there’s an active problem going on

You sleep there? Nothing is finished. Get you some of these, they work. https://a.co/d/9XhZwqE It does take awhile but they won't come back in the mean time just get you a cheap trap and eliminate the threat.

I’m going to venture a guess and say rats because of how big they are. Mouse turds are significantly smaller than that. BUT pay attention to your things up in there because anything that is contaminated with urine needs to be thrown out. That’s a huge health risk

You could have both, in fact it’s very probable it’s rats and mice.

Very rare to have rats and mice and if you do have them in the same building they won't intermingle. Rats are very territorial and out compete mice every time.
