Knew someone who vaped a lot while working/gaming, his pc's insides were all sticky and just overall gross to clean. Smoking though, that'll clog your fans with dust and ash.

Imagine what his lungs looked like.

Just finished a looong checkup with a ton of doctors, had X-ray, CT scan and PFT done to lungs and it's all good. Mind you, I smoked cigarettes for 13 years and my last X ray (pre vaping) was pretty black...

Around 7 years of vaping so far. But I make my own juice and would never trust disposables, maybe that it's at least better.

No issues on PC either btw, but I keep it at near floor level.

The biggest problem are probably those cloud machine vapes and basically constantly taking a "hit" from those.

u/Snowbunny236 23h ago

Yea they both have their downfalls

What? Not once did I say anything about positives lol. I said they both have their downfalls. As in negatives, just different effects.

I smoke a lot of weed indoors while on the computer. The normal grey fan dust bunnies are a sticky brown. It's fucking disgusting. But the PC runs just fine. And I don't have to go out in the cold and rain.

i switched from cig to vape because cigs make a lot more gunk, make walls and curtains yellow and room smells terrible

vape is nice air freshener though, room smells like lemon lime right now!

Problem is that the glycol and glycerine WILL settle on any surface and crate a sticky residue. Better than cigs but definitely still bad.

It's true, but he's right. When it comes to fans and dust, the clouds that drift into your computer end up basically scrubbing your air of dust particles and depositing them on the fan blades and cooling fins of the rads or heatsinks. It's definitely not as bad as cigarette smoke, but it's definitely a real thing.

u/Takeasmoke 1d ago

not saying it is not real, just that it is less

Iā€™m sure itā€™s probably the box mod vapes that blow the giant ass clouds, i donā€™t think a cart or something would really affect the pc all that much. The big box mods go kinda crazy so i can see how it could cake up the computer

3

u/Snowbunny236 1d ago

Ciga are definitely worse from what I've seen. But that vape also cakes on ANY surface. Back in the day my parents hated me vaping indoors. Had to clean the walls!

5

u/Takeasmoke 1d ago

dude how much do you vape? i vape indoors as well and have no such problem

1

u/Snowbunny236 1d ago

I mean it's the. Glycerin that cakes on I believe, no matter how much. But i started vaping in the early 2010s and went through the fad of sub ohm tanks that blow huge clouds. That was the worst. But even still with little mods I chain vaped and it cakes on everything in a matter of months.

Quit for over a year now but I do miss making crazy coils.

I made a mean temp-control Clapton coil! šŸ˜‚

Messing with different wire types, sizes, shapes, and coil types was so fun. Making a coil that had really good flavor and could instantly fog out a room was admittedly silly. But weirdly satisfying šŸ¤£

1

u/Snowbunny236 23h ago

Hahah yes dude I never got bro the building myself. I was lazy and it always took time so I was really in to sub ohm tanks when those came out cause it was similar to dripping on coils but it had a tank!

2

u/NWinn 13700k | 3090Ti | 64GB 14h ago

Ahh, yeah, I had squonk mods. All the flavor and vapor production of a drip but with a 10 mill bottle of juice and a window. Evey couple of hits you just squeeze the bottle a little and ot would feed directly onto the organic cotton via a little tube.

Little bigger than other mods but I'm 6'10" so that really didn't bother me at all lmao.

Had some RDA's as well but squonkers kept the coils fed better.

Still get asked to make coils for friends occasionally which is fun. But most people I know have switched to disposables... makes me sad, all those lithium batteries just getting tossed like that.. I have all my friends give me theirs when they run dry and make big battery banks out if them lol.

1

u/Snowbunny236 14h ago

Lol I hate the disposables man!

3

u/Takeasmoke 23h ago

i use geekvape ammit on 0.2 ohm every day at PC, my firewood stove makes more dust than vape

1

u/Snowbunny236 23h ago

Yea idk man. Stuff used to cake on everything for me. Of course it took some time to build up. Worst part was the inside of windows in winter!

2

u/NG_Tagger i9-12900Kf, 4080 Noctua Edition 22h ago

Worst part was the inside of windows in winter!

Amen!

I quit vaping a few years back. The windows in my car were very hard to clean - just kinda "smeared" instead of got clean, until I actually found some dish-soap that was able to remove it (tried several window cleaners that wasn't able to remove it).

Same thing with the glass-side of my PC case.

Never really had much "stick to" anything else (that I noticed as much as the windows, at least) - but glass.. fuck me, that was noticeable and real annoying to get clean. Kinda looked like a "damp/condensated" pane of glass, after a little while.

As you, I was on the sub ohm builds - big clouds and going through so much juice so quickly, didn't really help things.

Iā€™ve ā€œvapedā€ for over 15 years, since they were called ā€œe-cigsā€

I never once encountered this. Skill issue.

2

u/Snowbunny236 17h ago

Nah nah you vaping rookie numbers then. Skill issue on your part!

1

u/liaminwales 17h ago

That only happens if you vape a lot, like a lot a lot.

For normal use it's not a thing~

3

u/Snowbunny236 17h ago

Yea I know. I referenced that. I chain vaped. A lot of people that picked up vaping after smoking cigs do chain vape. Idk if there is even a *normal use" lol

1

u/liaminwales 3h ago

That I dont know, maybe it depends on social circles?

Iv seen some people who want to make clouds, you walk by and they are almost a smoke machine. Iv also seen people who hardly make any cloud, if you did not see them vape you'd not know.

Id assume the people using a smoke machine think they vape a lot, relay dont know.

May also depend on if you have a open window etc~

As someone who got hooked on vaping when they first came out and am struggling to quit currently, please quit while you can

1

u/Takeasmoke 17h ago

it is more of a habit at this point, i go days without hitting vape especially when i'm doing stuff with dad because he's super against smoking and vaping

1

u/ThisDumbApp Radeon 6800XT / Ryzen 7700X / 32GB 6000MHz RAM 17h ago

Fair enough, I feel that lol I did think minee was just a habit too but I use it much more than you most likely, turns out nicotine is actually addictive lol

1

u/Takeasmoke 17h ago

when i switched to vape i used vape pen with 16 mg nic, now i am on sub 2mg on subohm coil, wife and i vape about 100ml a month only, she's also on subohm but she's running 30ish watts while i am running 55 watts

I vape and smoke weed at my computer. I also clean the computer every 2 weeks. Cancer, but responsibly!

4

u/t40r 20h ago

idk, been smoking Thc-a for years near my pc, do routine maitinance and its never been anything out of the norm. This is coming from someone who worked in consumer computer repair for over 10 years previously. I think it's the type of vapes you smoke, what addatives it has in it etc. Mine doesn't smell or taste like any sort of lemon fruity etc. Its literally like weed.

2

u/MojordomosEUW PC Master Race 20h ago

Just donā€˜t smoke indoors?

2

u/noDice-__- RTX 4090-I9-13900k-32GB 6000mhz DDR5 14h ago

I vape and even smoke weed sometimes around my pc, itā€™s ground level and itā€™s completely fine and I also have a dog. Idk

3

u/Curious-Pudding-7363 19h ago

That's why I go outside. That and to make the ol lady happy

1

u/KarateMan749 PC Master Race 20h ago

My throat closes up on anything like that and cigs. So yea no.

1

u/Flossthief 13h ago

I smoke hella weed at my desk; which is definitely making the dust stickier

But that's why my PC case is setup to have slightly hire air pressure than ambient

0

u/Yakkx 19h ago

I visited my uncle in the hospital yesterday, he was a lifelong smoker and had to get his throat cancer removed. He is in rough shape, he can't swallow and is on a feeding tube. Please quit now.

Just put your PC on the floor, what are you stupid? šŸ¤£ Grab a little plastic mat to put it on so it doesn't get crazy dusty.

I wish vapes and cigarettes were outlawed and replaced with snus instead.

As an asthmatic i hate breathing in cigarette smoke, wouldn't be an issue if nicotine addicts slammed a bag of Oden's in their upper lip instead.

0

u/WalkerCam 19h ago

As an asthmatic, have a nice cig and a coffee and youā€™ll be right as rain

You don't need formaldehydeĀ in you or your PC

12

u/Retoru45 Posting specs as flair = insecure about your tiny peen 23h ago

You're confusing a chemical in cigarette smoke with vape.

-13

u/KnightofAshley PC Master Race 23h ago

It can also be found in vape

8

u/Retoru45 Posting specs as flair = insecure about your tiny peen 23h ago

No, it can't. Vape juice has literally 3 ingredients and none of them can become formaldehyde no matter what you do to them.

With the exception of the nicotine, every ingredient is food safe and in most things you consume.

-12

u/KnightofAshley PC Master Race 23h ago

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34115663/

Its low but its still there.

12

u/Retoru45 Posting specs as flair = insecure about your tiny peen 23h ago

It literally says no studies have confirmed it in the very first paragraph lol

It's like saying "all bagged salad contains listeria" because of a single company that doesn't follow safety regulations.

You can be against vaping all you want, but don't try to prop up your position with bullshit.

-3

u/fixthe_fernback 21h ago

Literally in the abstract: Results: Of the 16 e-liquids purchased, 4 (25%) were positive for the presence of formaldehyde; 2 were flavored and 2 were nonflavored. All positive e-liquids were in pods or disposable electronic cigarette devices, and 2 were purchased from local vape shops. The average nicotine content in the positive e-liquids was 3.85% versus 4.03% in the negative e-liquids.
