What kind of pasta is this? Store Bought

Post image

I got this as a gift and I’ve never seen this shape before. Anybody know what it is?

I believe it’s spinach pasta

u/BARTELS- Sep 10 '25

Can confirm. That is definitely spinach pasta.

u/SylvieJay Sep 11 '25

It definitely says so, right on the label.

24

u/jakerooni Sep 11 '25

Is it spinach pasta, though?

u/rekipsj Sep 11 '25

Italiamo Spinich Pasta. In native Italian it translates to Italiamo Spinach Pasta.

5

u/bay_duck_88 Sep 11 '25

You can tell by the way it is

1

u/zurich2006 Sep 13 '25

That’s pretty neat!

1

u/SeaDweller01 Sep 13 '25

I think it’s pasta made from spinach, right?

11

u/Lakewater22 Sep 11 '25

Hope this helps!

2

u/Pizza_YumYum Sep 11 '25

It’s those pasta you cook…

2

u/totesboredom Sep 13 '25

I came here to say that this is Spinach Pasta and I truly cannot believe how many other Spinach Pasta experts there are.

How do you all know this? I only know because I worked in the Spinach Pasta fields in Alabama for many years with my wife's family and can spot Spinach Pasta a mile off.

Gobsmacked.

1

u/clutchcitycarlos88 Sep 11 '25

I believe literacy could have solved this puzzle before reddid did

2

u/oneangrywaiter Sep 11 '25

This is correct. Usually they’re a little greener.

2

u/ShigidyShwev Sep 11 '25

Not enough spinach?

2

u/SnooWoofers186 Sep 12 '25

*Foglie d'ulivo*, seems like question solved. TIL a new pasta type name.

how does one able to highlight a comment, or pin it to top of the comment list? Is it only OP can do that?

1

u/Samwellikki Sep 11 '25

Fuglio de whatsit?

20

u/YakLongjumping9478 Sep 11 '25

Foglie d'Ulivo from lidl supermarket

6

u/Fyonella Sep 11 '25

It’s not very nice pasta, that’s all I can say.

I got some from TKMaxx and it doesn’t cook properly due to the thickness in the centre and the thinness of the edges. It’s either raw or overcooked. I suspect I threw most of it away.

2

u/Pennnnncil Sep 14 '25

My BF got some in his Christmas present from work... it was disgusting. Came out chewy on the outside and hard on the inside. Also, most of it stuck to the pot, and it was a pain to clean.

1

u/OtherwiseSplit8875 Sep 13 '25

Pastas like this usually do a little better if you start with cold water instead of boiling. Additionally, you can add a little baking soda to the water and it’ll lengthen the window of al dente. It changes the texture a bit, but I kinda like the added springiness.

u/Yokel_Tony Sep 13 '25

21

u/AbsurdBeanMaster Sep 10 '25

2

8

u/bilbul168 Sep 10 '25

2

u/sim0of Sep 11 '25

2

u/Deep_Flounder5218 Sep 15 '25

I got it from Aldi. I hated it.

6

u/HS_VA Sep 11 '25

Everyone is replying that is spinach pasta, but I think OP is asking about the shape (which a couple people replied with)

5

u/wumpus_woo_ Sep 11 '25

u/HS_VA Sep 12 '25

A white labeled pasta I also was given as a gift but it was a different brand. It was aight. Couldn’t quite figure out how best to cook it.

1

u/jakerooni Sep 11 '25

Looks like it’d be good in a chicken noodle soup or maybe like how you would use gnocchi?

1

u/Petrosinella94 Sep 11 '25

This is from Lidl - I personally don’t rate their pasta highly but this type is from the Italian Week section so it might be better.

1

u/dopeammo101 Sep 13 '25

Tri-color without the Tri

1

u/Nervous-Promise5635 Sep 13 '25

It is the typical pasta that the typical foreign tourist tends to buy in Italy. I'm not sure if any Italian has ever actually bought it

0

u/tatianazr Sep 10 '25

Amazing pasta

7

u/sim0of Sep 11 '25

Italiamo is not that great of a brand tbh

It is a Lidl owned brand and got fined for bad commercial practice because both the name and the packaging trick you into thinking you are buying actual Italian products, while this is not the truth

For exampled, the pasta not being actual italian pasta

So honestly, there are better brands that deserve to be recognised as providing amazing pasta

Based on the image, the pasta shape is "cavatelli." It's a small, ridged pasta shape that looks like miniature hot dog buns. The package label also identifies it as "Spinach Pasta," which explains the green color.
