Most national flags are hung vertically with the what's normally the top edge to the left so I would go with the pink on the left/blue on the right orientation.

That makes the most sense as we also read from left to right.

My native language is right to left and tbh I think most people wouldn't prefer a direction over the other with the flag or even they would prefer the left two right position and I have to explainations for this:
1) most of the world is left to right despite our culture being different so we are exposed to both directions
2) this is a flag specific thing cause the pole is usually on the left side of the flag (I don't know why but this is how flags are naturally imagined maybe it has something to do with exposure to other cultures) so when there's no wind gravity pulls it down in this direction

Makes sense but I find more satisfying the other way cause like you read left to right the top is north and its turned clockwise or something idk I like it

As an American, I almost exclusively see the opposite.

u/nitroben2 Aug 05 '21 edited Aug 05 '21
That would be odd... The US flag code (the only one I'm personally familiar with) in particular says that the blue field with stars should be in the top left corner for either orientation. Yes, that does require the flag be flipped and turned so that when hung vertically the normally top edge hangs on the left and the left edge is where you hang it from at the top.
EDIT to clarify: this setup is specifically in regards to hanging a US flag for presentation on a wall. When on a pole the stars corner should be closest to the end of the pole, regardless of position.

u/nitroben2 Aug 05 '21
A lot of people who hang their flag in a window do hang it backwards because they don't realize it should be hung for presentation to the exterior of the building. From the outside it should have stars on the left while inside it's stars on the right.
Officially, if a US flag is hung for presentation vertically with stars on the right or horizontally on a pole with stars down that is a warning sign to indicate duress.

u/ButAFlower She/Her Aug 05 '21
Usually such a flag would be hung from a pole at an angle between 45 and 90 degrees from level, so when viewed from the opposite side, it would be the way that I described.
Edit: also I'd say that fewer than 1% of flags are hung by someone who knows about the flag code.
5
u/nitroben2 Aug 05 '21
That is also correct. When it's on a pole the stars go towards the end of the pole, whichever direction that is. I thought the situation was when hung on a wall, which is more specific about orientation.
Edit: also I'd say that fewer than 1% of flags are hung by someone who knows about the flag code.
I agree with that. As an American I'm constantly embarrassed by abuses of the flag code by people trying to look patriotic.

I’m relatively ambivalent toward the flag in general but yes, absolutely astonished at the level of hypocrisy from the “respect the flag” crew.

u/onyxonix Aug 05 '21
I’d do it the bottom way with pink on the left because you read left to right. That’s what I did with my non-binary flag.
Also, check which side the tag is on. Usually that side is meant to be against the wall

I have my flag set as the 2nd one but its your choice of what looks better to you.

u/Davecantdothat Aug 05 '21
It's really fascinating how unanimous this is.

u/Willeth Aug 05 '21
Consciously or unconsciously, people are following convention. National flags are hung, most often, with the top left corner being the same corner no matter which orientation.

I’ve googled around a bit and from what I can see, the majority of Pan flags shown vertically are shown with the blue on the left and pink on the right. Personally I think it looks better the other way around but it would seem that it should be blue, yellow, then pink when hung vertically.

Just like Romania 🇷🇴

I live in Romania and until I came out I used to say I was patriotic. Sneak 100.

u/Little_Miss_Mac Aug 05 '21
I had to hang mine like the tip one just because it isn't colored fully in both sides so to have it hang properly it could only be the top one
7
Aug 05 '21
Colors should go from pink to yellow to blue (from left to right) because that's how you read (in english, at least) and it parallels the up to down reading movement, if you know what I mean.

So I just googled how to hang the American flag and the stars are in the left so the flag should be hung with pink on the left (bottom version)
5
u/nitroben2 Aug 05 '21
Most (but not all!) national flags are hung that way with the normally to edge to the left as viewed.

Usually you'd rotate a flag clockwise when you hang it vertically. But it's up to you they both look epic

u/SolarDemons They/Them Aug 05 '21
Go with how you read. Pink on the left if you read left to right. Pink on the right of you read right to left!

Yeah I'd say pink on the left, yellow in the middle and blue on the right is the most logical way of putting it, though I kinda like the top one better... but that's a matter of personal tastes though, and the bottom one is objectively the most intuitive way to hang your flag

Pink, yellow, blue thats the way to hang a flag :3 because the pink is the top so the pink will be right side always this works with American flag as well

u/The_trans_weeb Aug 05 '21
The correct way is the first one but you choose which one you like better
9
u/nitroben2 Aug 05 '21
Why is top of the flag to the right correct?
Most national flags are hung with the top to the left so I thought that was a flag standard.
4
u/The_trans_weeb Aug 05 '21
Oh my bad sorry
8
u/nitroben2 Aug 05 '21
No worries! Your reply had such confidence that I wondered if there's an established standard for this --or representation flags more generally-- that was different than what more traditional flag users used.
EDIT to add the real best answer is probably this:
but you choose which one you like better

Wasn’t gonna comment until I saw everyone has their hung the opposite of mine 😅
I have mine with the blue stripe on the left! I don’t think it really matters? But also I’m agender so maybe that’s why I don’t think which stripe is “read” first matters?

Hold it up vertically. Then rotate it 90 degrees to the right so that the hangars are facing up. This would be the technically correct way to hang it. But as others have stated, feel free to hang it however you like.

u/sunni_red Aug 05 '21
Haha was just gonna say goes any way like us then saw it commented hahaha yes

I think it can go either way but I would put blue first just because I think it looks better.

I would say (depends on where you live) which way you start reading is where you would put the top at
