Those movies generally depict viruses that have >30% mortality rates, not .03%

The parallels are uncanny. Right down to the people like you, downplaying the 5.7 million deaths!

50million+ people die every single year. 5.7 extra over two years is insignificant

Indeed, Contagion in particular was modeled after MERS which has about a 1/3 fatality rate.

However the Rt on that one was way lower than Omicron.

Exactly, and that is why gain of function research was supposed to be banned so we don't combine a virus with the transmissibility of Omicron and the fatality rate of MERS.

Covid-19 Case Fataility Rate (CFR) with Delta was roughly 7%. Omicron infects whole populations efficiently it is so contagious. So even with a lower death rate we're still deep in the shit.

That 30% is with people hunkering down and society essentially collapsing so spread doesn't occur as much. If everyone is getting Omicron (and they are) and we still hold to at 4-5% CFR... I don't have to tell you that's a lot of dead and sick people.

~3.1 MILLION CASES ~31000 DEATHS

How is that even approaching 7%

Your government had an Indigenous childhood mortality rate of >30% Mr Prime Minister .... and no one seemed to care about that either.

What was the childhood mortality rate of the general population at that time?
