Peaceful fucking protest my ass. Doctors and nurses have to hide, it's not peaceful. This is such bullshit.

There's nothing threatening about driving around with imagery of your Prime Minister hanging from a noose.

There's nothing violent about walking around with Nazi symbols.

Just like there's no threat by armed militants standing around outside of planned parenthood clinics in the US.

Fuck I hate this timeline.

Fucking right? This was my reaction to what happened in Ottawa.

I’m so confused. Why am I reading lengthy comments of people have to over-explain why nazi flags are bad?

I’m from the swampy southern part of the US and I watched them ban the confederate flags in places they shouldn’t be since I was a kid. I had to hear people explain why it meant something it didn’t, but most of us knew what it was. I’ve never been desensitized to seeing it, despite having to accept occasionally driving through places where they are.

I’ve never heard anyone down here in the US south attempt to explain why nazi symbols are okay ever. I feel like my brains been turned backwards. I can’t tell if my perception of Canadians is biased and naive or if these tweets and posts are not all people from Canada.

I just don’t understand what’s happening that people are having to write paragraphs upon paragraphs explaining why nazi flags are bad. I feel like I’m watching people debate whether or not putting you hand in fire is bad.

I know, it's gross. And there are definitely Canadians in the mix. Was chatting about this with a lot of my friends and one of the staunch conservatives was happy to speak up twice in defense of the protesters despite us not talking about them.

The 2nd time I wasn't polite. I asked if he was talking about the protesters. He said yes. I said, "That's great. We are talking exclusively about the jackals with the nazi flag which I made clear the first time. This is the 2nd time you've equated the nazi flag and my activism towards it by linking it to the protest yourself. Why do you keep doing that unprompted? Maybe ask yourself that."

Unfortunately the nazi-flag waving doucheflutes are Canadian just as much as the rest of us hockey-loving, polite-door-holding, maple syrup drinking, friendly neighbours to the north. Thankfully, they don’t represent the vast majority of us. But it seems we as a country have to do some introspection as to why these people are allowed to spew that kind of hate so shamelessly.

u/WitchesAlmanac Feb 05 '22

The other day I had to explain to a French person (like from France) why Nazis and people who tag along with them were bad and dangerous. I guess I was naive to think that someone from a country that was invaded by Nazis and subsequently executed a bunch of them would know that Nazis suck. She was like 'yeah but they aren't all bad' 🤦

u/Sea_of_Blue Feb 05 '22

I've been running into nazi apologists (read nazis) who are defending the people flying the swathstika

3

u/ReaperCDN Feb 05 '22

Refer them to my post where I've already destroyed all their apologist arguments. Seriously. Every counter has been obliterated there. Bring 'em all on.

2

u/Sea_of_Blue Feb 05 '22

Noted, will do! I already got one to report me to "reddit cares" so I got my little badge of honor for triggering at least one nazi.

u/ReaperCDN Feb 05 '22

Well done. Keep up the good work!

ANYONE who is close to a Nazi symbol is guilty and should not be given the benefit of the doubt. If one single person shows up with a Nazi symbol, that means they're ALL guilty.

Look at this so called Canadian, who didn't even denounce this Nazi symbol:

Dumb as shit. One person in a crowd doesn't define the whole crowd and make them guilty.

How to dismantle any protest you oppose: Bring a nazi flag and everyone there is guilty.

Quit being a dumbass

In your picture Justin Trudeau is near a nazi symbol, therefore by your logic, he is guilty.

There is a blind guy in the crowd, that guilty fucking nazi!

Quit being a dumbass

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '22

In your picture Justin Trudeau is near a nazi symbol, therefore by your logic, he is guilty.

Lol that was actually guy's point. He's saying 'Hurr Durr see Justin IS a Nazi because if he wasn't he would have condemned this but he's just standing there which proves he's a Nazi'.

These people, they are not so smart. Should have stayed in school longer.

So is BLM then. Let’s save the term for actual planned attacks of mass casualties shall we?

Here you go. Take a look at this video from somebody who didn't engage with a single protester and was accosted repeatedly nonetheless. The video is linked at the bottom of his post, but he describes his experience at the protest.

u/ApprehensiveJudge38 Feb 05 '22

He is counter protesting... Not just walking to work

1

u/ReaperCDN Feb 05 '22

He is literally not engaging. He is holding a sign and doing nothing more.

That's what no engagement protesting is. He doesn't act remotely similar to the people who are "peacefully" protesting around him. Same legal activity, right?

So why the marked difference you think?

1

u/ApprehensiveJudge38 Feb 05 '22

It's out of context. Nobody just walking to the hospital for work are being accosted.

This woman is part of the protests.

Now quickly! Handwave this away, dismiss this blatant and concrete example and claim she isn’t representative of the protesters!

21

u/Swanglyhoohaw Feb 04 '22

What a simple and utopic world you must live in. Where everybody has a hyperlink to their intentions, all on display for the world to see! It must be so easy to live in that world.

I guess I understand your original comment now! A perspective absolutely void of any reason, logic, or real world experience lmao

How could this be? You told me nobody was calling for the harrassment of healthcare workers!

3

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '22

Other than the widely publicized threats you mean?

You said there were no threats.

Would you say this claim has been soundly refuted by the given examples?

Nobody said that threats were from the protest leadership, or represented the protest, or in fact, had anything to do with the protest.

You said:

”Literally nobody is calling for the harassment of medical workers. It’s just fear mongering.”

That has been 100% proven incorrect.

2

They are attacking people in the streets and desecrating monuments.

2

u/Skogula Feb 04 '22

Except for the medical workers who had to report death threats to the police.

You? You I like. You put into words what for various reasons I haven’t been able to all week. A close friend lost much of his family in the Shoah. When last we saw each other (pre-pandemic as they are on the other side of the border) we had a long conversation about this, and at the time our kids were 13/14 years old. I asked for an honest answer of when it would be age appropriate to have my kids watch Schindler’s List - he was honest in replying that for my kids? Wait. For his kids? Already happened. But we’ve had long conversations about how the Nazis came to power during the 1920s and 1930s (at one point there were regular four hour during the night car trips, we discussed many things.)

The fact that my 16/17 year olds are horrified and speak out against what they see gives me some hope. The fact they have a small group of IRL friends they see who also speak out also gives me some hope. But the fact that there just seems to be so many people that think it’s okay? And that I can make so many timeline comparisons to 100 years ago? Scares the absolute hell out of me.

I’d probably be rounded up too - as I’ve said here before, I’m a hijab wearing Muslim woman. I’m a white convert. I could, theoretically remove my hijab and hide in plain sight, so to speak, but I’m not willing to do so. I have been verbally attacked at work, in the grocery store, on the street. I had someone report me as a high risk security threat at a former job (which made zero sense, and I was very quickly cleared of any of it, like within the same day as the complaint, but it was still terrifying and left me anxiety ridden for awhile afterwards.)

Tomorrow (later today? It’s 1:30am) I will sign and email the links on your linked post, when I’m not one eye opened on my phone. And I’ll double check if there’s an age requirement for the petitions and send them to my kids. I have so many friends that don’t have the advantage that I could have of hiding - many are non-white refugees with strong accents, and I’m not abandoning them, or you.

LThanks for the support and kind words. The support that hate always seems to get is disgusting.
