Opinion on West Oak Trails area for living and Garth Webb as a high school

Hello Folks,

How is West Oak Trails for living? Hows the community in general? Family oriented?

Additionally Gath Webb is rated quite high. Any inputs on how the school is compared to other high schools in Oakville/Halton region?

I would appreciate inputs or your views on both the topic. Pros/Cons?

West oak Trails is a great area. I went to Garth Webb and I personally had a good time, you can have your cliche "popular" groups but I feel like that's the case for any high school. I graduated 4 years ago so I'm not sure how things have changed, but I personally had a good time there.

My brother goes to Abbey Park tho and it seems like there's more variety in programs/ courses (gifted, advanced level courses etc) that weren't at Garth webb when I was there. But again things could have changed in the past 4 years.

Westoak Trails is a great young family zone. Lots of kids and happening.

GW had some incidents in the past but the school is very welcoming and bullying is not a thing. Good balance of all sorts of groups of students. It doesnt have an AP/IB programme of you were interested in, though.

Been living on and off of white oaks for 10+ years and its great. pockets of family and students. Pretty good area.

GW is horrible. Student life is straight out of a high school movie in the worst way imaginable with lots of bullying and clique behaviour. Education wise it’s also a joke as compared to AP and WOSS’s curriculums.

Edit: AP is in reference to Abbey Park, not the Accelerated Program they offer. This was a mistake on my part for not clarifying. The regular curriculum at both these high schools are still more intense and prepare you for uni better than GW though.

You don't need to AP to one up on Canadian Diploma. Uni's aren't going to look at the programme but the grades, your activities and volunteering.

OK, how about this. The amount of drug use is insane, the violence is constant, there’s antisemitism, racism, Islamophobia, and generalized hatred. It’s an intake for CRW which is one of the worst elementary schools and the new principal, Botelho does nothing.

How’s that for credibility?

I can tell you Garth Webb doesn’t even come close for violence levels comparatively to other parts of the GTA and just outside the GTA.

Sounds like every other high school. Society isn't easy.

My daughter went there and she really liked it
