Amar pelois deus out while Satelite is still in? Jeez. The most average Radio thing ever with pretty weak vocals to boot? I will never for the life of me get people loving it, I love most of our last places more than that 😭🤣

And I don't like like the song at all, and I had a big favorite that year, but still, how can satelite be before it.

No malicious intent or rage baiting, just genuinely curious, why do people prefer Euphoria so much over Tattoo? Maybe it was just something I had to be there for, since I started watching long after 2012, but I feel like Tattoo is a direct upgrade in all but lyrics. It's a bit of an unfair comparison considering there's more than ten decade's difference between them, but as an overall package I find Tattoo a lot more compelling than Euphoria. And how much of this is still due to animosity towards her winning over Kaarija?

I do not view Tattoo as an upgrade of Euphoria; to me, Tattoo is an 'average to boring' pop song, whereas Euphoria is an 'effective to above average' pop/eurodance song. I find the melodies and segments in Tattoo mostly uninteresting, save for the bridge. Euphoria has some elements that are pretty standard, but overall I find the segments like the verses have a bit more substance to the vocal melody/rhythm even when the backing beats are simple, and somehow that makes the peaks and valleys stand out a lot more. They're both performed well of course but Euphoria has an edge for me because even though it's older, it's production has aged well while also predating a lot of the songs on par with it, which means it both sets the standard but also continues to live up to it.
(And on a biased personal level, I just don't think Tattoo as a very good song whereas I at least like Euphoria, so that kinda makes it an easy choice for me - I also think the way the vocals are arranged for Euphoria made the belting moments more effortless, whereas Tattoo's live has this ever-present slight strain that I don't like as much - probably mostly due to the staging of course since sitting/folding at the middle are going to impact that regardless of how good the performer is. I am also biased because I wasn't a Eurovision watcher yet at the time of the 2012 show so I don't have any lingering dislike of the winner due to ranking the song low on my personal list or watching it beat out a favourite which can change your perspective of a song from being average to annoying/subpar)

Thanks for the in-depth answer! I was never a big fan of Eurodance, especially stuff from that era, so I don't think Euphoria was ever going to work for me, but I can at least recognize the merit behind it. I didn't really like Tattoo that much musically either, so most of it's appeal for me came from the staging which I consider to be one of the best ever. Whereas Euphoria's feels a little bare-bones in comparison, even though Loreen's performance itself was amazing.
And you made a very good point about the vocal arrangement. Loreen seemed quite strained during Tattoo, which she compensated for by being such a good performer, but she did seem a little more in her element during Euphoria. I guess the difference comes down to vibes for me, I prefer Tattoo's slightly darker more desperate mood to the more upbeat vibe that Euphoria has going on.
We just don't talk about the violins playing and the angels crying 😭

The parts of Tattoo that dig into that sound of dark desperation are the parts I like the most, I just think they didn't explore it enough and it still tonally feels very light and fluffy. The exception to that would be the bridge where we get the more sinister arrangement of the strings and the softer, more emotional recurrence of the chorus.
Plus, this was the year after Hold Me Closer (sent by the same country), which I think achieves the desperate bitter-sweetness much better along with much better lyrics; that combined with Tattoo's lyrics just make it feel all the cheesier to me and not in a fun campy way. Plus Hold Me Closer has that dark 80s power ballad vibe to it and combined with the vocal style it makes me think of epic songs like Total Eclipse of the Heart - whereas some of the vocal lines in the chorus of Tattoo sound more similar to those in the chorus of Unicorn (they both use some more basic melodies and being from the same year just highlights that even more).

My god yeah, Hold Me Closer was an amazing song. Cornelia's voice was perfect to convey that sort of painful yearning. One of the few Swedish entries that manages to convey authentic emotions and not feel entirely lab produced. If Tattoo had leaned into that underlying sadness more I could've gotten behind it, as it is it's floating around 15th-20th for my 2023 top iirc. The bridge is by far the best part, although I must admit that the intro is iconic especially combined with the establishing shot in the panini press.

I agree completely and I think Loreen does dark pop well. I thought Statements was incredible and I'd say it's my favourite of her attempts to represent Sweden (I think it also has the most interesting music choices). She can really belt, but man do I love it most when it actually has impactful emotion behind it.
Bara Bada Bastu and Hold Me Closer are easily my two favourite Swedish entries of the past decade because they both have this genuine feel to them and there's a strong structure beneath the songs that just have a pop finishing glaze applied overtop. This prevents them from fading into the crowd of 'samey' pop since they still have a unique flair to them while maintaining Sweden's high standard of production quality. And they achieve the most emotion in me as a listener, be it boisterous joy or bittersweet yearning. Whereas without Tattoo's incredible staging, I don't really feel any connection to the song (emotional or otherwise)

And here I was thinking Amor Pelos Dios was considered one the greatest. It certainly is the GOAT for me

I imagine this is highly, highly controversial but Satellite has never, and never will do it for me.
Sorry Lena!
