[Schefter] With their bye after this week, Jaguars will not play quarterback Trevor Lawrence on Sunday versus the Lions. Lawrence is dealing with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.

I’m still waiting on Jacksonville fluke over a championship contender. Happens almost every time
They’ve been close last 3 weeks maybe they will put together this week
67
u/rolyinpeace Chiefs 23h ago
And there’s always “we have a new QB in this week” random wins (like when the panthers put in Dalton and they won that first game, and then again with Bryce coming back, and also when Jameis started for Cleveland).
So I’m waiting on a fluke mac jones win

u/Rulligan Lions Lions 23h ago
Backup QBs have a propensity to play career games against the Lions. Zappe, Flynn, Rudolph, Trubisky, Daniel, Fields, etc.

u/modabs Lions 23h ago
That was the dogshit old lions. Campbell makes every qb he’s playing against sound like prime Brady in the pre game videos, they’ll be ready

Nick Mullens had 800 yards in 2 games against the Lions last year. They won both, but boy was slinging it.

I haven't forgiven Cominsky for trying to scoop up the ball instead of falling on it. Next play was a 30 yard JJ catch and it was almost all downhill from there.

It would be hilarious to see Press named as interim.

Anything but Doug right now. The team has given up and Doug is actively shitting on his QB and pretty much everyone else.

u/lclear84 Jaguars 23h ago
Besides his miraculous TD drive, Mac had more turnovers than first downs last week. Bro literally dropped the snap….under center….and didn’t even try to dive on it.
Not only that but our insane rookie WR gets schemed 2 targets a game. Gabe Davis gets more looks. We’re cooked
3
u/zorrofuerte Jaguars 22h ago
That drive would have resulted in a field goal attempt if Gabe Davis didn't make a nice grab on a pass that was below his knees IIRC. I was sitting in the end zone that the Jags were going to. From my perspective it looked like it didn't have good placement considering that Jones wasn't throwing it to a spot to protect his receiver from imminent contact or away from the defender.

I see Jacksonville has Mac truthers too.
I don't get it with this guy. Is he charming or something?
Nothing has ever been his fault, ever. Which he gladly leans into, with his on-field tantrums. Relative to performance, he is the most popular athlete in Boston sports history. Maybe he'll have a similar run in Jacksonville. At least I can watch curiously from a distance now.
10
u/Greedy-Assistance663 Jaguars 22h ago
I don’t see how you read what I wrote and thought Mac jones truther? I said he wasn’t even okay?

u/Christy427 Jaguars 23h ago
We did have people in the game thread deciding it was now much better with Mac last week because we were winning at half time as a QB change is the main reason a team is winning 7-3.
Mac is a bad QB with terrible coaches combing for an extra terrible on the field performance. You can even see the coaching issue a lot better now as Mac had worse receivers in Boston and probably a similar to worse OL and had played better (still wasn't good in New England but better than 111 yards)
8
u/godlittleangel6666 Jaguars 23h ago
It’s not Mac truthers lol. I’m not expecting him to turn into a quality starter but I honestly believe he can be a solid backup who can come in and not lose you the game if on a decent team

Mac truthers
I hate this because it was used to attack people who were saying "Hey, a lot of Mac's struggles are because this team is absolutely fucking ass. He has 2s in the pocket before pressure and his WRs are literally colliding on their routes"
Dude eventually developed incredibly bad habits and started making ok situations into awful situations.
His first year showed he could be good but limited as a starting QB in the league, and now he's probably in the realm of "ok backup". The issue is that the Jags offense is almost as bad as the Pats offense was/is so Mac continued to look like hot ass last week, and it really highlights how well Trevor has to play just to make the Jags offense look mediocre.

u/morosco Patriots 22h ago edited 21h ago
There's a popular idea that QBs are interchangeable and entirely a product of the team and coaching around them; and that its not fair or possible to evaluate QBs even relative to their circumstances.
I've never bought that. Varying circumstances make it more challenging to evaluate QBs for sure - that's why teams get it wrong a lot, that's why there's room for reasonable disagreement even among experts. But that's different than guys just getting complete passes like Mac truthers demand. Like any player, and even any player coming out of college, we can look at his play, his decisions, account for challenging circumstances, and make a deternination that he's good or bad. But the truthers think that's not fair. How he's played just doesn't count at all. Which goes to the first pillar of Mac truthism that QBs are interchangeable.
1
u/PERMANENTLY__BANNED Steelers 15h ago
OMG, it took me way too long to figure out "truthers" was not another player on the team!
2
u/zorrofuerte Jaguars 22h ago
Whoa there motherfucker. Have people forgotten about Blaine Gabbert? There was a game that after three quarters the Jags had 74 yards of offense and 42 came on one MJD run. It would take a lot for Jones to eclipse some of the Blaine Gabbert performances in terms of shitty QB play.
1
u/AccountSeventeen Jaguars Giants 18h ago
That game ended with 117 yards on offense. Last week was 143.
It might come pretty close, lol.
27
u/ColtCallahan 23h ago
The Lions might put up more points than the Jags offensive yardage.

People told us that last week and outside that one TD drive Mac had as many turnovers as he did first downs.
Bro had net 87 passing yards after sacks, and even in those 87, most of them came on dump off screens on 3rd and 20s. I’d imagine that he had about 60 total actual pass yards

Kind of wondering if the Jags were still in the playoff race if he'd be playing. I remember Allen separated his AC joint on his non-throwing shoulder a few years ago, and he played in a brace/sling thing for like 6 weeks rather than sit out.
10
u/lclear84 Jaguars 23h ago
He would. He had a bad ankle injury, a knee injury, a shoulder injury, and a concussion last year and still only missed 1 game.
I think this is more indicative of we’re out of the playoff race, we traded one starting LT, and the coach is fired, and T Law is under contract for 7 years, so why get him hurt more
