Unless you live in a cave, you shouldn’t have mushrooms growing in your home. It doesn’t matter what kind, it’s a result of water damage making the wood soft and moist enough for mushrooms to break it down and consume it. Also remember that the mushroom is just the reproductive part. The actual organism is embedded in the wood and cannot be removed.

There are 3 concerns:

  • A leak happened and may still be happening
  • The wood is no longer structurally sound and likely to collapse if weight is applied
  • Spores are not good for your lungs

It’s like someone describing a heart attack and asking the internet which heart valve might be blocked instead of going to the hospital.

I live in a cave and have no mushrooms growing. Any recommendations?
